  • It has regarded an attempt to design and construct more safe structures as challenges such as fate. In order to operate public facilities safely, It can be taken how to improve the resistance to applied load by increasing the cross-section of structural members or by installing reinforcement. But inevitably such a way is accompanied by an increase of construction cost or maintenance cost. To make a cost-effective construction, Reliability-based decision analysis which can judge the adequacy of investment is suggested using statistical data of the load, resistance and the maintenance cost.

  • The decision maker has the job of torecasting capital investments and operating expenses to aid the decision making in choosing and evaluating present and future alternatives. The estimating function eventually analysis, evaluates and choose the alternatives. The analysis stemmed originally from a preliminary design of some sort, and eventually plans are started to investigate investment possibilites. This study provide the descounted cash flow and the present worth method. Despite any choice of an analytical method, there remains the problem of predicting certain future events. Therefore, these models dealing with optimum plant sizing, equipment replacement, and lease or buy will be discussed.

  • The analytic hierarchy process(AHP) is a multi-criteria decision methodology developed by T.L.Saaty(1980). The AHP presents flexible, easily understood wry to assist the decision-marker in formulating his problem in a logical and rational manner. This paper addresses the concept of AHP and its application in the evaluation of nuclear and coal-fired power generations.

  • This paper investigates the potential impact of external factors on bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project in Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam. The data used in this study are secondary data taken from annual reports and sourced from the Department of Public Procurement, Ministry of Planning and Investment in Hanoi. Besides, to identify the impact of external factors on bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project in Hanoi, the study collected data from 272 qualified questionnaires from bidders doing business in Hanoi. Cronbach's Alpha, EFA and regression model are used to explore the impact of each independent variable on bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project. The results show that three external determinants, including Project characteristic (PC), Legal codes (LC) and Competition (C) are affecting bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project in Hanoi. Among them, Project characteristic (PC) and Legal codes (LC) have positive relationships with bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project, whereas Competition (C) negatively affects bid/no-bid decision for supervision consultant service on construction project. It means the more contractors actually participate in a bid, the less bid/ no-bid decisions are made.

  • This study examines the impact of government funds to venture capital on investment in early-stage firms. We provide novel explanations about this relationship focusing on mechanisms by which government funds influence the perceived uncertainty, decision about investment priority, scale economy of investment, information asymmetry in investment decision, and capital expense. We argue that venture capital's investment in early-stage firms increases as government funds increase and as government funds are explicitly directed for early-stage firms. However, we further claim that the impact of government funds on early-stage investment will be decreasing as their size increases and finally be reverted to negative impact beyond a certain amount of funds to show inverse-U relationship. Our empirical examination using data from 105 Korean venture firms active as of 2013 consistently supports the claims. This study contributes to the venture capital literature by providing novel arguments about mechanisms and effects of policy intervention in venture capital. In practice, we expect our results will provide an opportunity for relevant policy makers to review their venture support policy based on empirical evidences for policy effects.

  • It is generally considered from the point of view of macroeconomics that inflation has an effect favorable to the owners of tangible assets in the allocation of assets and lightens the burden of debtors in the redemption of their liabilities. But, this effect of inflation has not yet been fully verified in the case of individual firms. Accordingly, in this article I will examine the effect of inflation on the financial and investment decisions of individual companies.

  • This study has made an attempt to analyze the determinants of Foreign Direct Investment (FFI) by Korean Fishery firms. The questionaire survey on individual firm's recognition and the determinants of Foreign Fishery Investment (FFI) was performed, yielding the following results. First, the main object of FFI is to reserve fishing ground. The result of the statistical analysis shows that import ratio for domestic market (DOM) is a significant variable of FFI. These two facts indicate our FFI is resouree-oriented in terms of the object and motive. Second, FFI is primaily determined by firm-related factors rather than country- related factors. The significant variable in firm-related factfors is the number of departments of the investing firm (DEPT). Another notable result is that fishing fee is not an influential variable in FFI decision.

  • The main purpose of this paper Is to develop the Management Resource Analysis System for KOTRA which is based on Activity Based Costing(ABC). Because the products and services of KOTRA are exclusive and include a government subsidy, we need develop a different system from the private firm's ABC system. The Management Resource Analysis System that we propose is embodied using JAVA and JSP within an UNIX environment and developed as a Web-enabling base. It is expected for aiding a manager's decision-making such as resource inquiry, standard resource analysis, estimating the ratio of a government subsidy, case based reasoning, what-if analysis. The results of this paper suggest what points are to be considered when we apply ABC for Government Investment Corporation.

  • This study proposes a certain measure or investment strategy for decision making associated with seismic retrofitting. This strategy reduces the risk of a large-scale malfunction such as water supply loss under seismic risks. The authors developed a stochastic value index that will be used in the overall evaluation of social benefit, income gain, life cycle costs and failure compensation associated with existing lifeline systems damaged by an earthquake during the remaining service period. Optimal seismic disaster prevention investment of deteriorated lifeline systems is discussed. Finally, the present study provides a performance-based design method for seismic retrofitting strategies of existing lifelines which are carried out using the target probabilities of value loss and structural failure.

  • Telecommunication equipment is very obsolescent product from commercial point of view and its industry is large scale as well as its inter-industrial linkage effect is enormous. Therefore investment in it should be carefully carried out. However decision making on this problem is very difficult because the environment of investment is too much complex with multiple objectives. Goal-programmed Investment Model in Telecommunication Equipment is discussed in this study to solve the above problem. The effectiveness and workability of this model is verified by Telephone Exchange Case through computer program.
