In this study, we proposes the method to improve the quality of the image through the edge extraction more delicately. Our method is named ESII(Edge Sensitive Image Interpolation) and doesn't use the fixed parameter of the interpolation kernel. However, it changes the parameter of pixel which is interpolated to the high definition image using the proper information from the surrounding pixels. It reconstructs the image by using the LSE(Least Square Error) and determining the pixel values to make the CME(Camera Modelling Error) minimized. Compared to the conventional methods, suggested method shows the higher quality of subjective and objective image definition and lessons the computational complexity by separating the image into 1-D data.

In this paper, a quality improvement scheme is proposed for magnified image using the various curved surface characteristics of image. After testing horizontal and vertical directional surface characteristics of source image, interpolation value is calculated to have the surface characteristics such as simple convex surface, simple concave surface, and compound surface. The calculated interpolation value become the value of the interpolated pixel of magnified image. The calculated interpolation value is closer to the pixel value of real image. So, the quality of the magnified image is improved. The PSNR value of the magnified image using the proposed scheme is larger than the PSNR values of the magnified image using the existing techniques.
A digital image usually has 8 bits of depth basically representing pixel intensity ranging for [0 255]. These pixel range allow 256 step levels of pixel values in the image. Thus the greyscale value for a given image is an integer. When we carry out interpolation of a given image for resizing we have to round the interpolated value to integer which can result in loss of quality on perceived color values. This paper proposes a new method for recovering this loss of information during interpolation process. By using the proposed method the pixels tend to regain more original values which yields better looking images on resizing.

A single field deinterlacing method, namely interpolation algorithm derived from low resolution (ILR), is presented in this paper. Traditional deinterlacing methods usually employ edge-based interpolation technique within pixel-based estimation. However, edge-based methods are somehow sensitive to noise and intensity variation in the image. Moreover, the methods are not satisfied in deciding the exact edge direction which controls the performance of the interpolation. In order to reduce the sensitivity, the proposed algorithm investigates low-resolution characteristics of the pixel to be interpolated, and applies it to high-resolution image. Simulation results demonstrates that the proposed method gives not only a better objective performance in terms of PSNR results compare to conventional edge-based interpolation methods, but also better subjective image quality.
The aim of this paper was mainly to interpret the real information-missing patch of image by using the kriging interpolation technology of spatial statistics. The TM Image of the Jingouling Forest Farm of Wangqing Forestry Bureau of Northeast China on 1 July 1997 was used as the tested material in this paper. Based on the classification for the TM image, the information pixel-missing patch of image was interpolated by the kriging interpolation technology of spatial statistics theory under the image treatment software-ERDAS and the geographic information system software-Arc/Info. The interpolation results were already passed precise examination. This paper would provide a method and means for interpreting the information-missing patch of image.

In this paper, we propose spatially adaptive color demosaicing of noisy Bayer data. When sensor noises are not considered in demosaicing, they may degrade result image. In order to obtain high resolution image, sensor noises are considered in the color demosaicing step. We identify flat, edge and pattern regions at each pixel location to improve the performance of the algorithm and to reduce complexity. Based on the pre-classified regions, the demosaicing of the G channel is performed using the local statistics to reduce the interpolation error. The sensor noise is simultaneously removed by a modified version of non-local mean filter in the green and in the color difference domain. The R and B channels are interpolated easily using fully interpolated and denoised G and color difference values. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a significant improvement in terms of visual and numerical criteria, when compared to conventional methods.

A frame rate up-conversion scheme is needed when moving pictures with a low frame rate is played on appliances with a high frame rate. Frame rate up-conversion methods interpolate the frame with two consecutive frames of the original source. This can be divided into the frame repetition method and motion estimation-based the frame interpolation one. Frame repetition has very low complexity, but it can yield jerky artifacts. The interpolation method based on a motion estimation and compensation can be divided into pixel or block interpolation methods. In the case of pixel interpolation, the interpolated frame was classified into four areas, which were interpolated using different methods. The block interpolation method has relatively low complexity, but it can yield blocking artifacts. The proposed method is the frame rate up-conversion method based on a block motion estimation and compensation using the linearity of motion. This method uses two previous frames and one next frame for motion estimation and compensation. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm effectively enhances the objective quality, particularly in a high resolution image. In addition, the proposed method has similar or higher subjective quality than other conventional approaches.
In this paper, we propose a post-processing method through interpolation of hole regions that occur when extracting point clouds. When image matching is performed on stereo image data, holes occur due to occlusion and building façade area. This area may become an obstacle to the creation of additional products based on the point cloud in the future, so an effective processing technique is required. First, an initial point cloud is extracted based on the disparity map generated by applying stereo image matching. We transform the point cloud into a grid. Then a hole area is extracted due to occlusion and building façade area. By repeating the process of creating Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN) triangle in the hall area and processing the inner value of the triangle as the minimum height value of the area, it is possible to perform interpolation without awkwardness between the building and the ground surface around the building. A new point cloud is created by adding the location information corresponding to the interpolated area from the grid data as a point. To minimize the addition of unnecessary points during the interpolation process, the interpolated data to an area outside the initial point cloud area was not processed. The RGB brightness value applied to the interpolated point cloud was processed by setting the image with the closest pixel distance to the shooting center among the stereo images used for matching. It was confirmed that the shielded area generated after generating the point cloud of the target area was effectively processed through the proposed technique.

It is known that it is expedient to represent the distribution of the properties of a bone with complex heterogeneity as B-spline volume functions. For B-spline-based representation, the pixel values of CT images are interpolated by B-spline volume functions. However, the CT images of a bone are three-dimensional and very large, and hence a large amount of memory and long computation time for the interpolation are required. In this study, a method for resolving these problems is proposed. In the proposed method, the B-spline volume interpolation problem is simplified by using the uniformity of pixel spacing of the image and the properties of B-spline basis functions. This results in a reduction in computation time and the amount of memory used. The proposed method was implemented and it was verified that the computation time and the amount of memory used were reduced.
In this paper, we propose an efficient deinterlacing algorithm which interpolates the missing scan lines by weighted summing of the intra and the inter interpolation pixels according to the spatio-temporal variation. In the spatial interpolation, we adopt a new edge based spatial interpolation method which includes edge directional refinement. The conventional edge dependent interpolation algorithms are very sensitive to noise due to the failure of estimating edge direction. In order to exactly detect edge direction, our method first finds the edge directions around the pixel to be interpolated and then refines edge direction of the pixel using weighted maximun frequent filter. Futhermore, we improve the accuracy of motion detection by reducing the possibility of motion detection error using 3 tab median filter. In the final interpolation step, we adopt weighted sum of intra and inter interpolation pixels according to spatio-temporal variation ratio, thereby improving the quality in slow moving area. Simulation results show the efficacy of the proposed method with significant improvement over the previous methods in terms of the objective PSNR quality as well as the subjective image quality.
