This paper proposes a novel deinterlacing algorithm using neighboring deinterlacing pixels directions weight, which can obtain the true deinterlacing direction of the interpolated pixel. The proposed algorithm determines the direction of the current interpolated pixel using MELA direction determination method. To obtain more accurate deinterlacing direction and increase interpolation direction correlation, the directions of neighboring pixels around the current interpolated pixel are considered. The current direction and the neighboring majority direction are compared to decide an interpolated method. But it cost slightly CPU time increasing since neighboring pixels directions determination and statistics. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm outperforms the conventional deinterlacing methods.

This paper presents a SR method using adaptive interpolation based on local gradient features to obtain a high quality SR image. In this method, the distance between the interpolated pixel and the neighboring valid pixel is considered by using local gradient properties. The interpolation coefficients take the local gradient of the LR images into account. The smaller the local gradient of a pixel is, the more influence it should have on the interpolated pixel. And the median filter is finally applied to reduce the blurring and noise of the interpolated HR image. Experiment results show the effectiveness of the proposed method in comparison with other methods, especially in the edge areas of the images.
Interpolation methods to get the magnified image from an image with low resolution use known pixels to make an interpolated pixel. This interpolation process usually generates blurred edges and blocking effect in the result image. To improve these defects, conventional methods multiply proper weights reflecting neighborhood pixels and add the values during interpolating process. The proposed method changes input pixels in consideration of information of neighborhood pixels, gets interpolated pixels by using these values and improves the quality of interpolated image. Firstly, we compute difference values of the diagonal directions of a pixel and classify flat regions and complex regions according to these values. If the regions is complex ones, the proposed method changes an original pixel into a new value using a input pixel and a median value of it's neighbor pixels. Therefore, the proposed method applies bilinear method to the original pixels in flat regions and the changed ones in complex regions and produces the interpolated images. We evaluate the performance of the proposed method with existing methods by using PSNR and the quality of enlarged image. The results show that the proposed method improves PSNR in comparing with conventional methods and that is superior to the existing methods in terms of the quality of the interpolated image.
In this paper, we propose a new performance comparison method of various Interpolation methods for image enlargement The conventional methods employs PSNR and edge characteristic evaluation for performance comparison of interpolation methods. The proposed performance comparison method uses the position Information for each difference pixel's value and the frequency characteristic information between original image and Interpolated image. The proposed methods might be useful for performance comparison of various Interpolation methods through the computer simulation.

In this paper, we present a new method that can detect forged color region using color pattern decomposition and hypothesis testing approach. On the basis of the fact that the variance of the interpolated pixel is smaller than that of the original pixel, we use a statistical test method to judge the statistical inconsistency of variance. For this, we calculate the variance adopting a color pattern decomposition according to the demosaicking pattern. In addition, we apply high-pass filtering to enlarge the difference between the variances of original and interpolated pixel. Through experimental simulations, we can see that our proposed method can effectively detect forged color regions and shows superior detection performance compared to the conventional method.

In this paper, we proposed an effective quality improvement scheme of magnified image using the surface characteristics in image. If the surface in image is estimated as simple convex surface or simple concave surface, the interpolated value can be calculated to have the surface characteristics by using the other method in the proposed scheme. The calculated value becomes the interpolated pixel value inmagnified image. So, themagnified image reflects the surface characteristics of the real image. If the surface is not estimated as simple convex surface or simple concave surface, the interpolated value is calculated more accurately than bilinear interpolation by using the method of the proposed scheme. The PSNR values of the magnified images using the proposed schemes are greater than those of the magnified images using the previous interpolation schemes.
We propose a new frame rate up-conversion algorithm for high quality video. In the proposed scheme bidirectional motion estimation (ME) is performed to construct the motion vector. (MV) field for the frame to be interpolated. Unlike conventional motion-compensated interpolation (MCI) algorithms, the proposed technique does not produce any overlapped pixel and hole region in the interpolated frame, and thus can utilize the overlapped block motion compensation technique to reduce the blocking artifacts. The proposed algoritm is very simple to implement on consumer products when compared to conventional MCI methods. Computer simulation shows a high visual performance of the proposed frame rate up-conversion algorithm.
This paper proposes a new frame interpolation algorithm mainly designed for intra-mode blocks. In order to improve the accuracy of pixel interpolation, the new algorithm exploits two different interpolation modes for inter-mode blocks and intra-mode blocks, respectively. The use of the two modes reduces ghost artifacts but increases blocking artifacts between the blocks interpolated by different modes. To reduce blocking artifacts, this paper proposes an interpolation algorithm that attempts to isolate a fast moving object and interpolates such objects as the intra-mode while the remaining blocks are interpolated as the inter-mode. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm improves subjective and objective quality of pictures by reducing ghost artifacts.
In this paper, we present an upsampling technique for depth map image using color and depth weights. First, we construct a high-resolution image using the bilinear interpolation technique. Next, we detect a common edge region using RGB color space, HSV color space, and depth image. If an interpolated pixel belongs to the common edge region, we calculate weighting values of color and depth in $3{\times}3$ neighboring pixels and compute the cost value to determine the boundary pixel value. Finally, the pixel value having minimum cost is determined as the pixel value of the high-resolution depth image. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves good performance in terns of PSNR comparison and subjective visual quality.

An adaptive optimization of parametric cubic convolution for image interpolation is derived in this paper. The proposed technique is based on optimizing the standard cubic convolution interpolation formula at each interpolated pixel. Conventional parametric cubic convolution methods use a fixed parameter in an image, so properties of each pixel cannot be incorporated into the interpolation. The proposed method optimizes the interpolation kernel by obtaining parameters adaptively on each pixel. A new cost function is introduced to reflect frequency properties of the original data. The proposed technique produces noticeably sharper edges than traditional techniques and exhibits an average PSNR improvement of traditional techniques.
