  • Surrounded by powerful states, Korean maritime and airspace jurisdiction is constantly exposed to intrusions by its neighbors. Korean government has been, however, exercising significant degree of moderation in response to the occasions. This is where my research starts off: why does Korean government implement only mild measures, which sometimes seem to be insufficient, to infringements on maritime and airspace jurisdiction? I found the answer from the principles and rules of international law: to promote peace and prosperity of the international community, it placed limitations on state rights and prohibited use of force. This point will be elaborated in the paper by examining the contents of restriction and the history of the relevant principles. In the second part of the paper, I explore what strategy could be employed by a state to protect its jurisdiction under present international legal regime. Interestingly, international law, which restricts state jurisdiction, at the same time provides opportunities for lesser powers to protect their state jurisdiction. In the meantime, diplomatic efforts are required. I offer examples of Norway and Philippines, who successfully upheld their arguments against powerful states via international legal regime.

  • This study investigates the impact of flipped classroom strategy in developing students' achievement and acquisition of life skills. The study employed a quasi-experimental design where students were divided into two groups: an experimental (N=22) and a control (N=22). The randomly selected and assigned sample consisted of sixth-year elementary school students studying English as a basic course. The findings revealed statistically significant differences between the two group's means in both achievement and life skills tests in favor of the experimental group. Students of the experimental group who studied using the flipped classroom strategy outperformed the control group who studied in the standard way in achieving the English language and in the life situations test, where the effect size of the use of the strategy was large in both dependent variables. The study is concluded with some recommendations to facilitate the use of flipped classroom strategy for EFL teachers. This can be achieved by training teachers on using the strategy and providing technological resources at schools to implement the strategy efficiently.

  • This paper examines the corporate parent effect on the diversification strategies of triad and Asian subsidiaries in the ASEAN region. I find that triad subsidiaries tend to participate in high technology intensive industries, and are more likely to diversify. In addition, I also find that the subsidiary diversification strategy is significantly affected by the number of affiliations under the same corporate parent that perform the same or different activities in the region. These results shed light on the influence of corporate parent on subsidiary-level strategy and the role of the subsidiary within an economically integrated region. Various implications are discussed.

  • The results of the study show that managers of Korean manufacturing firms pursue international business strategy(IBS) to achieve four different objectives: global integration, national responsiveness, market expansion, or development and exploitation of firm-specific knowledge. IBS is closely related to the international business environment of the firms. When managers think they can exploit economies of scale by integrating worldwide operations, they prefer the global standardization strategy. Managers of firms which implement the localization strategy actively recognize the importance of the strategy more than those of other firms. IBS helps to improve the overall international competitiveness of the firms. Especially. implementing global standardization and localization simultaneously seems to be useful to strengthen the competitiveness of the firms.

  • This study analyzes the business strategy of fast fashion through Zara, a successful fashion brand from Inditex Spain. An in-depth case approach is adopted based on extensive secondary research that includes literature and press releases published in Korean as well as English. The findings of this research demonstrate a speedy and flexible process occurring in the supply chain of its fast fashion business and the cooperation between the company's headquarters and international subsidiaries. Zara's headquarters executes four representative strategies: competitive market research, an integrated organizational structure, small quantity batch production, and a specialized distribution system. Zara's international subsidiaries execute their own four representative strategies: differentiated international expansion, independent human resource management, small but fundamental IT, and maximization of store resources. These two core parts intimately work together to satisfy target customers all over the world by bringing competitive advantages to the fashion business and represent a key concept of Zara's business strategy. The main drawbacks of case studies are limited validity and representativeness restraining the potential for making generalizations. However this case is considered sufficient to provide valuable insight and improve the understanding of operation strategy in fast fashion.

  • The object of this study is to present a strategy against technology protectionism of advanced countries focusing on international cooperation policy of KIPO and infringement of overseas intellectual property rights on the notion that a policy performed without a long-term plan will not lead to industrial growth in the long run. There is a high possibility that aggressive patent policy and black box strategy of Japanese enterprise can be a burden to Korean enterprises. Thus, a policy should be established against the technology protectionism. The policy can be based on a strategy about international cooperation policy of KIPO and strategy against infringement of overseas intellectual property rights. Of course, collaboration and cooperation will be activated among the advanced countries including technical cooperation. However, a systematic strategy of intellectual property rights should be focused on international cooperation and countermeasure against infringement of overseas intellectual property rights because national interest takes precedence over any other interest especially in case of strategically owing industry. A strategy against technology protectionism of advanced countries is as follows. A strategy is required to cope with infringement of overseas intellectual property rights. Korean government has to strengthen the function of overseas intellectual property rights protection center, strengthen boundary restriction of infringement goods, promote international dispute study, train international dispute specialist, construct confidence as social capital etc. Enterprises have to maintain no Patent no Future policy, specialize on application and countermeasure against infringement dispute, participate for formation and standardization of patent pool, strive for specialization regarding technical transfer and license management.
