Objective : Foville syndrome & Foville-Millard-Gubler syndrome is a disease characterized by facial palsy, ipsilateral conjugate gaze palsy and ipsilateral internal strabismus. There has never been a clinical report of this disease in oriental medicine. Since gradual improvement has been experienced with oriental medical treatments based on facial palsy and paralytic strabismus in this case, it is worthwhile to introduce this disorder and report the case referring to clinical record. Methods : 75-year-old female patient and 45-year-old male patient suffering right facial palsy, right conjugate gaze palsy and right internal strabismus were treated with acupuncture, herbal medicine, pharmacopuncture and electroacupuncture. Result : Concurrence of right facial palsy, right conjugate gaze palsy and right internal strabismus was diagnosed with Foville syndrome or Foville-Millard-Gubler syndrome which is generally caused by the impairment of PPRF, abducens and facial nerves on the affected side and showed improvement with oriental medical treatments. Conclusion : More accurate diagnosis, more aggressive treatments and further researches are all required on this disease afterwards.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to report the effectiveness of Korean medicine on treating paralytic strabismus in childhood. Methods We treated a 4-years-old patient who was diagnosed with paralytic strabismus with herbal medicine, laser acupuncture, T-acupuncture and moxibustion. Results After 5 months of the Korean medicine treatment, the child's strabismus, diplopia, and limitation of abduction were improved. There was no recurrence of the symptoms for 1 year and 4 months. Conclusions Korean medicine treatment can be effective in improving symptoms of paralytic strabismus. However, further studies are needed to demonstrate the treatment benefits to abducens nerve palsy.

Authors experienced one case of the strabismus of recurrent abducent nerve palsy with migraine, which was estimated from Brain MRA images to be induced by the sclerotic changes of internal carotid artery in carvernous portion. Headache, double vision, vertigo and corneal reflex improved under the treatment of acupuncture and herbal medicine(J eongyongtang-gagambang).

Pregnancy related stroke is significant because it has dire impact on both mother and the fetus. Pregnant or puerperal women are reported to have about 13-fold more risk of stroke compared to non-pregnant women. Pregnancy-related stroke must be differentiated from stroke in elderly patients, because it is different in pathophysiological etiologies and recurrence rates and also diagnostic and therapeutic methods may affect the fetal health status. Because the VI cranial nerve manages lateral rectus muscles, it' s palsy causes sudden onset of double vision. The eyes turn medially. In this article, one case of paralytic strabismus resulting from pontine hematoma during puerperium is reported. It was treated with herb medicine and acupuncture. Symptoms improved. This case is submitted with a brief overview of related lit.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Korean medical treatments on idiopathic bilateral strabismus. Methods : We treated a 43-year-old male idiopathic bilateral strabismus patient who was told to wait without a prescription as there was no problem in intraocular pressure test, fundus test, brain computed tomography, brain magnetic resonance imaging and angiography test, and cerebrospinal fluid test. The patient was admitted to Cheonan Korean medical hospital for 3 months to get Korean medical treatments including acupuncture, electroacupuncture, vapor treatment, pharmacopuncture therapy. The degree of improvement in idiopathic bilateral strabismus was determined by the objective measures of internal and external rotation disorders, and the patient's subjective opinions on eye pain and double vision discomfort. Results : The results of this patient showed distinct improvements on objective measures of internal and external rotation disorders in both eyes. Distance from the outer corner of the right eye when abducted decreased from 7mm to 0mm, and left eye decreased from 7mm to 0mm. Distance from the inner corner of the right eye when adducted decreased from 5mm to 0mm, and left eye decreased from 4mm to 0mm. In addition, eye pain decreased from 10 to 0 and diplopia decreased from 10 to 2 according to the patient's subjective opinions. Conclusions : This study shows the possibility that such medical treatment in Koreans can improve the rare idiopathic bilateral perspective among strabismus patients.

This is a case report of Crouzon's disease as a kind of craniofacial dysostosis by premature closure of unilateral coronal suture, showed plagiocephalic skull. 5-year-old boy was visited for the treatment of dental caries and oral examination. Physical examination showed hypertelorism, internal strabismus, and saddle nose. Intraoral radiographs showed congenital missing of upper right and left deciduous and permanent lateral incisors. Cephalometric analysis showed shortening the posterior cranial base length, clockwise growth pattern and class III and open bite tendency. Posterior-anterior and submentovertex view showed multiple radiolucencies-digital impression on inner surface of cranial vault. Maxillo-facial and neuro-surgical treatment was required to improvement of facial esthetics and optic complications. Continuous examination was needed to the growth and development.

Chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) is a complex slowly progressive mitochondrial disorder characterized by extraocular muscle weakness with or without multisystem involvement. The mainstay of therapy in a patient with CPEO is supportive. However, in moderate cases, surgery might be indicated including surgeries for ptosis and strabismus. In this article, we report a Saudi patient with CPEO due to compound heterozygous variants in the DNA polymerase gamma (POLG) gene c.2246T>C p.(Phe749Ser) and c.1735C>T p.(Arg579Trp), which are classified as pathogenic. Proper diagnosis with genetic testing confirmation is important to guide the management and counsel the patient about the prognosis and the management options. The patient was successfully managed with bilateral frontalis sling and illustrates the importance of surgical intervention to improve vision and cosmetic appearance in patients with CPEO. We emphasize the importance of multidisciplinary care in the management of cases of mitochondriopathy, especially CPEO.

본 증례는 다수의 치아우식증을 주소로 내원한 모야모야병 환자의 전신마취 하 치과치료에 대한 보고이다. 모야모야병은 치과치료 동안 상당히 주의를 필요로 하는 다양한 전신질환과 관련이 있다. 여러 과의 의사들과 협진이 필요하고, 치과 예방치료에 초점을 맞추면서 적절한 시기에 치료하는 것이 중요하다. 모야모야 환자에서 울음과 과호흡은 저칼륨혈증을 일으킬 수 있고, 대뇌 혈관 수축 효과를 일으킬 수 있다. 치과치료 시 뇌졸중 발생을 예방하기 위해서 통증과 불안을 조절하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 비협조적이거나 매우 어린 모야모야병 환자에게 치과치료를 하기 위해서는 전신마취가 필요할 수 있다.
