  • Extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) is a rare disease that occurs in 3% to 5% of patients with plasma cell disorder. It occurs most commonly in the upper respiratory tract and the oral cavity. Very few EMP cases have been reported in the central nervous system (CNS). We report herein an unusual case of EMP in the nasal cavity that recurred in the CNS without systemic involvement. A 67-year-old man visited our hospital due to a month-long bout with exophthalmos. He was diagnosed with EMP in the nasal cavity, paranasal sinus, and orbital cavity. He received radiotherapy to which he had complete responses. After 2 years, he visited our hospital because of a month-long headache. He was diagnosed with EMP recurrence in the CNS via brain magnetic resonance imaging and cerebrospinal fluid analysis. He was treated with whole brain radiotherapy and intrathecal chemotherapy with methotrexate, but he expired due to pneumonia.

  • To evaluate the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system in diabetes mellitus, basal plasma renin activity (PRA) and its response to intravenous furosemide were determined in 40 diabetic subjects. The diabetics were divided into 4 groups according to the pressence of nephropathy and/or hypertension. Uncomplicated diabetics (Group I) were taken as control group and the results of the ether groups were compared to this group. In diabetics with nephropathy alone (Group II), and with nephropathy and hypertension (Group III), basal PRA values were $0.63{\pm}0.59ng/ml/hr.,\;and\;0.79{\pm}0.62ng/ml/hr.,$ respectively, both significantly lower than control group. ($1.53{\pm}1.09ng/ml/hr.$). (p<0.05) In both of the above groups, the responses to intravenous furosemide tended to be blunted. On the other hand, in diabetics with hypertension only (Group IV), the basal and stimulated PRA were not significantly different from control. Above results suggests that nephropathy may be one of the factors which suppress renin activity in diabetes mellitus.

  • This paper aims to examine the role of mediating effect of trust to leaders on the relation between internal marketing and customer orientation. A survey was conducted to examine the responses of 570 employees. Reliability, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equal modeling were used for results. The following are the summary of hypothesis test. First, internal marketing has positive effect on customer orientation. Second, internal marketing has positive effect on employee's trust to leaders. Third, trust to leaders has positive effect on customer orientation. Fourth, the mediating effects of trust to leaders partially mediated the relationships among empowerment, training, reward, internal communication and customer orientation and fully mediated the relationship between management support and customer orientation. Therefore, the results of this study have many theoretical and practical implications.

  • Regulation of respiration differs significantly between wakefulness and sleep. Respiration during wakefulness is influenced by not only automatic control but also voluntary and behavioral control. Sleep is associated with definite changes in respiratory function. With the onset of sleep, voluntary control of ventilation that overrides automatic control during wakefulness becomes terminated. Also ventilatory response to various stimuli including hypoxemia and hypercapnia is decreased. With these reasons respiration during sleep becomes fragile and unstable so that marked hypoxemia can be happened in patients with lung disease especially during REM sleep. Obstructive sleep apnea may also be developed if upper airway resistance is increased in addition to these blunted ventilatory responses.

  • The nonlinear response statistics of an autoparameteric system under broad-band random excitation is investigated. The specific system examined is a vibration absorber system with internal resonance, which is known to be a good model for a variety of engineering systems, including ship motions with nonlinear coupling between pitching and rolling motions. The Fokker-Planck equations is used to generate a general first-order differential equation in the dynamic moment of response coordinates. By means of the Gaussian closure method the dynamic moment equations for the random responses of the system are reduced to a system of autonomous ordinary differential equations. The jump phenomenon was found by Gaussian closure method under random excitation.

  • Teleoperating system has been developed for several decades, and many control schemes for it have been suggested. But the implementation for real application needs very simple but effective controller. In this paper, an advanced control scheme for this purpose is suggested, which is the combination of a modified internal model controller and variable filter for force reflection. And we verify the effectiveness of the proposed scheme through the experiment. We use PUMA-560 as the slave robot, which is operated by velocity servo loop with geared motor. Both the responses of free motion and contact motion are shown.

  • The present paper proposes a generalized modal analysis procedure for non-uniform, distributed-parameter rotor-bearing systems. An exact element matrix is derived for a Timoshenko shaft model which contains rotary inertia, shear deformation, gyroscopic effect and internal damping. Complex coordinates system is adopted for the convenience in formulation. A generalized orthogonality condition is provided to make the modal decomposition possible. The generalized modal analysis by using a modal decomposition delivers exact and closed form solutions both for frequency and time responses. Two numerical examples are presented for illustrating the proposed method. The numerical study proves that the proposed method is very efficient and useful for the analysis of distributed-parameter rotor-bearing systems.

  • The seismic response of the reactor structures depends on the dynamic charact-eristics of the structures and the input earthquake loadings. The stuctural integ-rity of the reactor internal components can be verified by the dynamic response analyses to implement the effects of the design loadings like earthquakes. The sensitivity analyses of the dynamic characteristics for the analytical model of reactor structures considering the possible variations of the stiffnesses of the CSB upper flange and the snubber were performed to improve the dynamic characteri-stics of the structures against seismic loading. And to enhance the structural design margin of the reactor internal components the nonlinear time history analyses were attempted for the modified analytical model, and the results were compared between the reference model and the modified ones.

  • This study was purposed to explore children's development in the theory of mind. Children of age 7, 9 and 11 explained others' good and bad behaviors, and answered to questions about ‘mind’ and ‘heart’ Children's behavior explanations with internal factors, including traits and mental states, were scored and analyzed. The responses of mind-related knowledges were categorized and compared by age. Results showed that children's internal explanations were not different with age, and most of the children explained internally for others' bad behaviors more than for good ones. Secondly, children conceptualized cold-minded ‘mind’ and hot-minded ‘heart’ differentially, but showed developmental differences in mind-related knowledges. It was hard for the younger children to explain ‘mind’ and ‘heart’ Children came to construct their knowledge with age; ‘mind’ including cognitive monitoring, and ‘heart’ working outside the personal emotions.
