Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) widely uses for the collapse risk assessment procedures of buildings. In this study, an IDA-based collapse risk assessment methodology is proposed, which employs a novel approach for detecting the near-collapse (NC) limit state. The proposed approach uses the modal pushover analysis results to calculate the maximum inter-story drift ratio of the structure. This value, which is used as the upper-bound limit in the IDA process, depends on the structural characteristics and global seismic responses of the structure. In this paper, steel midrise intermediate moment resisting frames (IMRFs) have selected as case studies, and their collapse risk parameters are evaluated by the suggested methodology. The composite action of a concrete floor slab and steel beams, and the interaction between the infill walls and the frames could change the collapse mechanism of the structure. In this study, the influences of the metal deck floor and autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) masonry infill walls with uniform distribution are investigated on the seismic collapse risk of the IMRFs using the proposed methodology. The results demonstrate that the suggested modified IDA method can accurately discover the near-collapse limit state. Also, this method leads to much fewer steps and lower calculation costs rather than the current IDA method. Moreover, the results show that the concrete slab and the AAC infill walls can change the collapse parameters of the structure and should be considered in the analytical modeling and the collapse assessment process of the steel mid-rise intermediate moment resisting frames.
This study was conducted to determine the seed dormancy types of Sambucus racemosa subsp. pendula Nakai and S. williamsii Hance. Low temperature stratification (1, 2, 3, 4 months) and GA3 treatment (1,000 mg/L) were performed on seeds to determine the type of seed dormancy. After the treatment, seeds were placed on a petri dish at 25℃ under light conditions. The germination rate and mean germination time were investigated. Results showed that cold stratification was effective in breaking the dormant state of the seed in both species. In the low temperature stratification treatment, the seed germination performance was improved as the treatment period was prolonged. Gibberellin treatment was effective in breaking the dormant state of S. racemosa subsp. pendula without low temperature stratification. However, S. williamsii did not break the dormant state of the seed by gibberellin treatment without low temperature stratification treatment. In the gibberellin treatment, germination performance was improved according to the low temperature stratification treatment period. As a result of this study, the seeds of S. williamsii have both an intermediate complex and a deep complex morphophysiological dormancy (MPD). In comparison, it was found that the S. racemosa subsp. pendula had intermediate composite MPD.
Four cylindrically shaped IHXs(Intermediate Heat Exchangers) are installed in the PHTS(Primary Heat Transfer System) of the PGSFR(Prototype Gen IV Sodium cooled Fast Reactor). As for the IHX, the temperature difference of structure is inevitable result caused by heat transfer between primary coolant sodium and IHTS(Intermediate Heat Transport System) sodium. It is necessary to evaluate the high temperature structural integrity of IHXs which operate at the elevated temperature condition over the creep temperature. In this paper, the high temperature structural integrity of IHX under assumed loading conditions has been reviewed according to ASME code.

In this paper, a behavioral current-voltage model with intermediate states is proposed for analog applications of unipolar resistive memories, where intermediate resistance values between SET and RESET state are used to store analog data. In this model, SET and RESET behaviors are unified into one equation by the blending function and the percentage volume fraction of each region is modeled by the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) equation that can describe the time-dependent phase transformation of unipolar memory. The proposed model is verified by the measured results of $TiO_2$ unipolar memory and tested by the SPECTRE circuit simulation with CMOS read and write circuits for unipolar resistive memories. With the proposed model, we also show that the behavioral model that combines the blending equation and JMA kinetics can universally describe not only unipolar memories but also bipolar ones. This universal behavioral model can be useful in practical applications, where various kinds of both unipolar and bipolar memories are being intensively studied, regardless of polarity of resistive memories.
The magnetic susceptibilities of molybdenum ions with 4d1 electronic configuration in the octahedral crystal field were calculated on the basis of ligand field theory. The experimental magnetic susceptibilities for molybdenum ions, which are stabilized at the octahedral site in the perovskite lattice of Ba2ScMoⅤO6 and Sr2YMoⅤO6, were compared with the theoretical ones. We have tried to fit their temperature dependence of magnetic susceptibility with ligand field parameters, spin-orbit coupling constant ζSO, and orbital reduction parameter κ according to intermediate field coupling and strong field theory. Strong field coupling theory could not explain experimental curves without unrealistically large axial ligand field, since it ignores the mixing up between different state via spin-orbit interaction and ligand field. On the other hand, the intermediate field coupling theory could successfully reproduce experimental data in octahedral and trigonal ligand field. The fitting result demonstrates not only the fact that spin-orbit interaction is primarily responsible for the variation of magnetic behavior but also the fact that effective orbital overlap, enhanced by cubic crystal structure, reduces significantly orbital angular momentum as indicated by κ parameter.
Conformational change of ubiquitin variant with valine to alanine mutation at sequence position 26 was studied by varying solvent pH. Fluorescence emission spectra indicated that this variant ubiquitin has some residual structures in acidic and basic solution as compared to denaturant-induced unfolded state. Far-UV circular dichroic spectra indicated that the base-denatured state had more secondary structure than the acid-denatured state. Near-UV circular dichroic spectra indicated that the aromatic side-chains were in the relatively more rigid environment in the base-denatured state than those in the acid-denatured state. Although it appears that the more tertiary structure present in the base-denatured state, refolding reactions measured by stopped-flow fluorescence device suggest that both the acid- and base-denatured states occur before the major folding transition state. The acid- and base-denatured states are considered to reflect the early event of protein folding process.
The objective of this study was to compare pork characteristics and to determine consumer acceptability of pork chops from antibiotic free Yorkshire crossbreds sired by Berkshire (BY), Large Black (LBY), Tamworth (TY) or Yorkshire (YY) boars and reared in hoop houses. The experiments were conducted at the North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCA&TSU) Farm in Greensboro, NC and the Cherry Research Station Center for Environmental Farming Systems (CEFS) Alternative Swine Unit in Goldsboro, NC (source of antibiotic free Yorkshire sows used at both places). Twenty-four sows were artificially inseminated at each location in each of three trials. Litters were weaned at 4 wks old, and reared within deep-bedded outdoor hoop houses. To compare pork characteristics, 104 randomly selected animals were harvested at a USDA-inspected abattoir at approximately 200 d of age. Variables measured included pH, color score, $L^*$, $a^*$, $b^*$, marbling score, drip loss, hot carcass weight, backfat thickness (BF), loin muscle area (LMA), and slice shear force. Sensory panel tests were also conducted at two time periods. The data was analyzed with GLM in SAS 9.01 including location, trial, and sire breed as fixed effects. Backfat thickness, LMA, color score and $a^*$ were different among breeding groups (p<0.05). The LBY pigs had thicker backfat and smaller LMA than the other breed types. The TY and YY had less backfat than all other breed groups. Color score was lower for YY than BY and LBY but intermediate for TY. The $a^*$ was lower for TY than other breeds except LBY which was intermediate. For one sensory panel test, YY pork was more preferred overall as well as for juiciness and texture compared to BY and LBY (p<0.05), but no impact of breed type was noted for the other test, with values similar for BY, LBY, TY and YY pork. This information may help small farmers make decisions about breed types to use for outdoor production.
The differentiated services (DiffServ) is proposed to provide packet level service differentiations in a scalable manner. To provide an end-to-end service differentiation to users having a connection over multiple domains, as well as a flow marker, an intermediate marker is necessary at the edge routers, and it should not be operated at a flow level due to a scalability problem. Due to this operation requirement, the intermediate marker has a fairness problem among the transmission control protocol (TCP) flows since TCP flows have intrinsically unfair throughputs due to the TCP's congestion control algorithm. Moreover, it is very difficult to resolve this problem without individual flow state information such as round trip time (RTT) and sending rate of each flow. In this paper, to resolve this TCP fairness problem of an intermediate marker, we propose a fair scalable marker (FSM) as an intermediate marker which works with a source flow three color marker (sf-TCM) operating as a host source marker. The proposed fair scalable marker improves the fairness among the TCP flows with different RTTs without per-flow management. Through the simulations, we show that the FSM can improve TCP fairness as well as link utilization in multiple domain DiffServ networks.
The kinetics and mechanism of reduction of Cu(II) with an excess D-penicillamine have been examined at pH = 6.2 and 0.60M in ionic strength. The reaction at the initial stage is biphasic with a rapid complexation process to give "red" transient complex of $[Cu(II)(pen)_2]^2$- that is partially reduced to another transient "brown" intermediate. The "brown" intermediate is finally reduced to diamagnetic "yellow" complex, $[Cu(I)(Hpen)]_n$. The final reduction process is pseudo-first order in ["brown" transient] disappearance $with {\kappa} = {{\kappa}_{3a} + {\kappa}_{3b}[pen]^{2-}},$ where ${\kappa}_{3a} = (5.0{\pm}0.8){\times}10^{-3}sec^{-1}$ and ${\kappa} = (0.14{\pm}0.02) M^{-1}sec^{-1}$ at $25^{\circ}C$. The activation parameters for the $[H_2pen]$-independent and $[H_2pen]$-dependent paths are ${\Delta}H^{\neq} = (52{\pm}5)kJmol^{-1},$ and ${\Delta}S^{\neq} = ( - 27{\pm}3)JK^{-1}mo^{l-1},$ and ${\Delta}H^{\neq} = (56{\pm}2)kJmol^{-1}$ and ${\Delta} S^{\neq} = ( - 18{\pm}0.7)JK^{-1}mol^{-1}$ respectively. The nature of "brown" intermediate is not clearly identified, but this intermediate seems to be in the mixed-valence state, judging from the kinetic and spectroscopic informations.
A state of bacteriorhodopsin at high temperature was studied by various spectral measurements. The stability measurements indicated that the onset temperature of the denaturation was 70$^{\circ}C$ in the dark and 60$^{\circ}C$ under illumination. The reactivity of hydroxylamine with the Schiff's base also significantly increased in the temperature range between 60 and 70$^{\circ}C$. A spectral band at about 470 nm appeared in the temperature range higher than 60$^{\circ}C$. The circular dichroism spectra in the visible region started to change from a bilobed exiton type to a positive band at about 60$^{\circ}C$, suggesting that the two-dimensional configuration of bacteriorhodopsin molecules changed from crystalline to amorphous. All the measurements suggested a new state between 60 and 70$^{\circ}C$ in which bacteriorhodopsin is stable only in the dark.
