This study presents the design of an 18 kW two-phase interleaved buck converter that uses a coupled inductor for an electric vehicle rapid charger. The designs of a two-phase coupled inductor for current ripple and physical size reduction and a two-phase interleaved buck converter based on silicon carbide metal - oxide - semiconductor field-effect transistor for high efficiency were described in detail. The operating principle of the two-phase interleaved buck converter was analyzed, and the coupled inductor was investigated using a magnetized equivalent circuit. Simulation and experiments were conducted to verify the validity of the proposed two-phase interleaved buck converter, and the theoretical design method and experimental results were confirmed.
This paper proposes the interleaved buck converter using a soft switching auxiliary circuit. In this scheme, an auxiliary circuit is added to the conventional interleaved buck converter and used to achieve soft-switching conditions for both the main switch and freewheeling diode. In addition, the switch in the auxiliary circuit operates under soft-switching conditions. Also, according to the input to output conditions, the main switch achieved zero-current-transition(ZCT) or zero-current & zero-voltage-transition(ZCZVT) at turn on. Thus, the proposed interleaved buck converter provides a higher efficiency. The basic operations, in this paper, are discussed and design guidelines are presented. The usefulness of the proposed converter is verified on a 200kHz, 180W prototype converter.
In this paper, a soft-switching scheme for the PWM interleaved buck converter(IBC) is newly proposed to obtain the advantages of both the conventional PWM interleaved buck and resonant converters such as ease of control, reduced switching losses and stresses, and low EMI. To obtain the soft-switching action, the proposed scheme employs an auxiliary circuit, which is added to the conventional interleaved buck converter and used to achieve soft-switching for both the main switches and the output diodes while not incurring any additional losses due to the auxiliary circuit itself. In this paper, the basic operations are discussed and design guidelines are presented. And through the experimental results, the usefulness of the proposed converter is verified.
A multi-phase interleaved buck converter is used to reduce current ripples and filter size of a power supply. This paper addresses the modelling and steady-state analysis of the multi-phase interleaved buck converter operated in discontinuous inductor current mode. The model is derived using an averaging technique in steady state. The do voltage ratio and the range of the discontinuous inductor current mode(DICM) and the continuous output current mode(COCM) are derived from the averaged state-space model. In addition, the efficiency is investigated according to the number of phase.

Inductor in high power converter system increases production cost, volume and core loss proportional to the power. To decrease these disadvantages, this paper analyzed the characteristic of parallel-inductor and coupled-inductor in interleaved system with simulation. As a result, it is confirmed that two-phase interleaved non-coupled buck-converter has the best characteristic among three types converter.
This paper presents the performance improvement of voltage-mode controlled interleaved synchronous buck converters. This is a voltage-mode controlled scheme, where the controllers do not need an external saw-tooth generator for PWM generation and the loop design is easier. The controller implementation requires only a single error amplifier and gives almost current mode control performance. The control scheme uses voltage feedback with two loops similar to current mode control: one for the slow outer loop and the other for the faster inner PWM control loop. To improve the performance of the converter system a coupled inductor is used. This coupled inductor reduces the magnetic size and also improves the converter's transient performance without increasing the steady-state current ripple. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated through PSIM simulations.
This paper presents design of interleave configured dc-dc converter for high power distributed power system applications. The multi channel interleaving buck converter with small inductance has proved to be suitable for micro-grid, requiring medium output voltages, high output currents and fast transient response. Integrated magnetic components are used to reduce the size of the converter and improve efficiency. Unlike conventional methods, the distributed approach requires no centralized control, automatically accommodates varying numbers of converter cells, and is highly tolerant of subsystem failures. A general methodology for achieving distributed interleaving is proposed, along with a specific implementation approach. The design and simulation verification of switching frequency 10 kHz system is presented with interleaved clocking of the converter cells. The simulation (simulated by PSIM 6.1) results corroborate the analytical predictions and demonstrate the tremendous benefits of the distributed interleaving approach.
