Performance Evaluation of Prepackaged-Type Low Shrinkage Surface Preparation Materials Using a VA/E/MMA Terpolymer Powder

  • Recently, prepackaged-type surface preparation materials using redispersible polymer powders are widely used for interior and exterior finishing in the construction work. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance and the quality of prepackaged-type surface preparation materials using a VA/E/MMA terpolymer powder. Surface preparation materials using a VA/E/MMA terpolymer powder were prepared with shrinkage reducing agent contents of 0, 4 % and cellulose fiber contents of 0, 0.5, 1.0 %, and tested for drying shrinkage, strengths, adhesion in tension, crack and impact resistance, water absorption, permeability. As a result, prepackaged-type surface preparation materials show outstanding performance depending on the shrinkage reducing agent and cellulose fiber contents.

  • The indoor air quality of modern people who work indoors more than 80 percent a day has also become a very important factor in their lives. But most indoor air quality is highly polluted due to energy conservation and lack of ventilation. This can lead to pneumonia, asthma and even lung cancer, which can be fatal to children, the elderly and the elderly. Indoor pollutants are caused by boards, wallpaper, paint, etc. used in interior By producing indoor finishing materials using active alumina gel, which is used as dehumidifier, indoor pollutants will be reduced and the possibility of developing respiratory diseases and lung cancer will be reduced.

  • Originally the COS system was developed based on fashion colors. But in interiors many other color groups are used frequently, so the COS system is somewhat insufficient for interior design work. The purpose of this study is to verify the pratical use of the COS system in finishing colors of housing interiors and to propose the additional colors based on interior finishings. The COS system and the NCS color system were used for color measurement. The results was as follows. In the hues, Y.YR.GY.PB.B.BG color groups were used for interior material more frequently. And regardless of hues, low saturation and high value colors were used. Most of the colors were inscribed as the COS system and the NCS color system simultaneouly, but muted and grayed color tones like pale.light.grayish.soft cannot be founded in the COS system. Therefore more subdued and soothing tones of Y.YR.GY.PB.B.BG color groups should be added to the COS system.

  • Modular construction is attracting attention as the solution of recent problems in construction site. Such as lack of construction workforce, increasing labor costs, work delay due to extreme weather events and strengthening government regulations. However, despite the many advantages, Modular construction has not been activated dueto high construction costs compared to other construction methods. Accordingly, the object of this study is priority derivation of prefabricated house cost reduction factors and use as basic research data. For research performance, we have analyzed the blueprint and bill of quantities of a modular construction based public dormitory which was built in 2013. In result, the proportion of modular construction and on-site construction is 66% and 34%, and the construction cost proportion by activity was devided in to construction(79%), machinery(7%), electricity(5%) and civil(9%). Among these results in order to reduce costs, interior finishing(19.4) steel-frame(16.9%), metal works(13.5%), RC(11.8%), joinery(7.3%) is the order requires focused management.

  • The purpose of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis between Korea and the United States of the supply process of unit modular housing at both the factory production phase and the transportation and lifting phase, as part of an attempt to invigorate the unit modular housing market in Korea. Unlike the practice in the United States, one of Korea's unique characteristics is that the floor is constructed with reinforced concrete and hot water heating system. To do this, the wet method in Korea is used that includes concrete placement, curing and constructing hot water floor heating system at the factory production phase, which results in a longer production time and also requires the lifting of heavier loads. In the United States, interior and exterior finishing works of modular housing are performed by different companies, and the distance between the unit module factory and the construction site is quite far. This kind of dualized production structure may cause confusion when it comes to schedule management, procurement management, and stock management. Moreover, problems caused by external environmental factors such as wind and rainfall were reported in the course of long-distance transportation. The results of this case comparison are expected to provide fundamental data that will reduce the amount of trial and error in the unit module production, transportation and lifting work in Korea, which has a comparatively small number of unit modular housing cases.

A Study on Characteristics of Swedish Furniture Company, $K{\ddot{a}}llemo's$ chair Design

  • This study attempted to identify the characteristics of chair design from furniture company, $K{\ddot{a}}llemo$, the furniture manufacturer in Sweden manufacturing mostly the limited edition of art furniture on the basis of the unique management philosophy. There are 12 artists manufactured chairs for $K{\ddot{a}}llemo$. Of them, this study selected 4 artists-Sigurdur Gustafsson, John Kandell, Komplot Design, Mats Theselius-who designed at least more than three chairs. Total 25 chairs were analyzed; 6 from Sigurdur Gustafsson, 8 from John Kandell, 3 from Komplot Design and 8 from Mats Theselius. The chair structure was divided into three parts, seat, back and structure and analyzed by material, color, type of legs and finishing. The following results were derived from the study. First, $K{\ddot{a}}llemo$ secured the regular customers who want to possess the chairs as the artistic works by continuing the small quantity mass-production system insisting that the maximum quantity of production is 360 pieces and the minimum quantity is 33 pieces. Second, the sufficient time and cost were invested in the initial phase of design. This approach seems to be deviated from the traditional business system that has to create the revenue at a glance, but ultimately induces the commercial success by exponentially increasing the revenue through the creation of various product lines. Third, $K{\ddot{a}}llemo$ provides the space that the artists who work for $K{\ddot{a}}llemo$ can sufficiently enjoy the mental composure and luxury required for the designers by strictly selecting the artists and providing the best environment for enabling the creative activities that look like the pure art area. This study enables the further analysis and research on other collections of $K{\ddot{a}}llemo$ that mass-produces the chairs on the basis of the unique philosophy in the world as well as in Sweden using more various kinds of analysis frameworks.

  • Building information modeling (BIM) has the advantage of having been utilized for various scenarios through a single model. Although extracting 2D drawings from BIM is one of the advantages, there are many difficulties when utilized in practical work. Architectural detail drawings are an important factor for expressing interior finishing materials and complicated construction methods, as well as for cost estimations. However, creating detail drawings does not have a standard, and each design company establishes its own detail drawings, so it is hard to share or exchange information in the construction industry. Therefore, this study suggests a systemized method for making detail drawings, and explains how it can be utilized as back data for quantity take-off and construction expenses linked with BIM libraries.
