Supramolecular Nanodevice Based on Helical Encapsulation of Photo-/Electroactive Oligomers

  • Photo-/electroactive donor-acceptor (D-A) chromophores were synthesized and investigated for energy- and electron-transfer (ET/eT) properties, for which the chromophores are supramolecularly integrated by encapsulation with helical amylose, rendering the chromophores aggregation-free and rigidified along the helical axis and thus, a remarkably enhanced fluorescence intensity. Fluorescence quenching studies indicated that the helical encapsulation gives the ET/eT a clear D-A distance dependence unlike with the encapsulation-free counterparts, being reflected in their florescence decay profile. Another notable difference is that the helical supramolecule of the chromophores forms a perpendicularly oriented self-assembly. Transport behavior in the solid state will be also discussed.

  • Data storage related with writing and retrieving requires high storage capacity, fast transfer rate and less access time in. Today any data storage system can not satisfy these conditions, but holographic data storage system can perform faster data transfer rate because it is a page oriented memory system using volume hologram in writing and retrieving data. System architecture without mechanical actuating part is possible, so fast data transfer rate and high storage capacity about 1Tb/cm3 can be realized. In this paper, to correct errors of binary data stored in holographic digital data storage system, find cluster centers using clustering algorithm and reduce intensities of pixels around centers. We archive the procedure by two algorithms of C-mean and subtractive clustering, and compare the results of the two algorithms. By using proper clustering algorithm, the intensity profile of data page will be uniform and the better data storage system can be realized.

  • Confocal scanning microscopy (CSM) is an important instrument in a wide variety of imaging applications because of its ability to provide three-dimensional images of thick, volume specimens. The mechanism for two-dimensional beam scanning and optical sectioning has an important roe in CSM as the three-dimensional profiler. This optical sectioning property arises from the use of a point detector, which serves to attenuate the signals from out-of-focus. The intensity profile for the open loop scanning should be matched with its response for the standard. The non-linearity can be minimized with the optical sectioning or the optical probe of the closed loop control. This paper shows the mathematical expression of the light such as the extinction curve in the optical fields of system using AO deflector, the axial/lateral response experimentally when the error sources change, and the methods of optical sectioning. 동축 이중제한분류의 상사성에 대한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Similarity of Confined Coaxial Jets)

  • In confined coaxial jets, the flow-mixing characteristics depend on the initial conditions at the nozzle outlet such as velocity ratio and nozzle radius ratio. In this study, nozzle ratio(inner/outer) was 0.3. Longitudinal axial velocity, turbulent intensity and Reynolds shear stress were measured by CTA. Measurements were made from the duct inlet to the region where similarity solution could exist. This study investigated flow charicteristics according to the variation of similitude parameter which was derived from the theory of Craya-Cutet. The range of similarity region depends on the variation of the similitude patameter. The form factor obtained from the axial velocity profile in the similarity region was constant. The higher the similitude parameter, the wider the spread rate of the jets. Due to this fact, the similarity conditions developed more quickly and the region where the similarity holds became narrow. Present experimental data confirmed the validity of Craya-Curtet theory.

  • Aspherical lens with the higher numerical aperture has been needed in the optical storage device to increase the recording density on the disk. However, high numerical aperture means the large slope angle at the clear aperture of the lens. Therefore, the measurement and manufacturing technique including the lens molding process for the slope angle should be developed. In this paper, the evaluation technique was described for the optical performance of the aspherical lens. Aspherical form error brings about the wavefront error and the side lobe of the beam intensity profile. A schematic diagram of the aspherical lens manufacturing was drawn to explain the aspherical form error compensation. Finally, form error of the aspherical lens was defined and plotted using the raw data of the Formtalysurf.

  • Edge emitting 레이저 다이오드의 전형적인 모양은 그림 1과 같다. 반도체 레이저는 다른 종류의 레이저에 비하여 체적이 매우 작으며 제조 단가가 저렴하고 대량생산이 용이할 뿐 아니라 수 mA의 전류만 흘리면 레이저가 되는 이점이 있으므로 광통신용 응용 외에도 바코드 리더, 비디오 디스크, 오디오 디스크, 레이저 프린터, 포인터 등에 폭넓게 이용된다. 하지만 다른 레이저들에 비하여 발산각이 큰 편인데 p-n 접합에 나란한 방향과 수직인 방향의 발산각은 각각 λ/w와 λ/l 로 타원모양을 갖게 된다$^{(1)}$ . Photochemical Transformation of Chalcone Derivatives

  • The photoisomerization behavior of benzylideneacetophenones, known as chalcones, was studied. We synthesized the chalcone derivatives that have ether groups at 4 and 4' positions. Due to the electron donating ability of the ether oxygen, the bond order of the single bond between two phenyl ring of the chalcone strengthened, which eventually increased the rotational barrier of the single bond. The rotational barrier of the single bond is about 20-22 kcal/mole. Thermal recovery of this process took about 1 min. The UV-visible spectra of these chromophores exhibit two characteristic absorption peaks at 276 nm and 340 nm. The relative intensity of the peaks varies depending on the alkyl chain length of the substituent. Photo-irradiation with the 365 nm light monotonously decreases the 340 nm peak. However, the photo-irradiation with 254 nm light induce two competing processes and produced rather complicated absorption profile.

  • The morphological analysis of wear particle is a very effective means for machine condition monitoring and fault diagnosis. In order to describe morphology of various wear particle, the wear test was carried out under different experimental conditions. And fractal descriptors was applied to boundary and surface of wear particle with image processing system. These descriptors to analyze shape and surface wear particle are shape fractal dimension and surface fractal dimension. The shape fractal dimension can be derived from the boundary profile and surface fractal dimension can be determined by sum of intensity difference of surface pixel. The morphology of wear particles can be effectively obtained by two fractal dimensions.

  • We carried out an image analysis of living cells forming their contacts at the bottom of the cell culturing substrate. In order to visualize the contact area selectively, we adopted total-internal-reflection-fluorescence (TIRF) method, which can illuminate the specimen volume within only several hundred nano-meters above the substrate. From the fluorescent intensity of the TRF image, we could calculate the distance of the cell surface from the substrate. As a result, we visualized the origin of cell contacts, their movements, and the change of cell-contact type from the close-contact into focal-contact with information of its vertical displacement representing the temporal evolution process of the three-dimensional cell-surface-profile near the contact area during this metamorphosis.
