  • We proposed a new method to improve the resolution of far object image in curving effective integral imaging system. Basically, the curving effective integral imaging(CEII) system can improve the resolution of the reconstructed images with an increased sampling rate of elemental images. However, in the case when an object located far from the lenslet array is picked up, the low resolution of the reconstructed images of the far object has been a primary problem because the sampling rate is very low. In order to solve this drawback, by using the direct pixel mapping(DPM) method the EIA picked up from a far object is transformed into a new EIA that virtually looks like the EIA picked up from the object originally located close to the lenslet array. From this new EIA, highly resolution-enhanced images of far object could be reconstructed in the CEII system. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, simulation results are compared with the conventional method.

  • In this paper, we propose a generation of 2D elemental images for 3D objects using Kinect in 3D depth-priority integral imaging (DPII) display. First, we analyze a principle to pickup elemental images based on ray optics. Based on our analysis, elemental images are generated with both RGB image and depth image recorded from Kinect. We reconstruct 3D images from the elemental images with the computational integral imaging reconstruction technique and then compare various perspective images. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, we carried out the preliminary experiments. The experimental results reveal that our method can provide correct 3D images with full parallax.

  • 3D integral imaging technique with an active mask is capable of displaying real 3D images with high resolution in space. In this paper, we present a novel 3D/2D convertible integral imaging display system using an active mask. For the proposed method, the principles of 3D, 2D, and 3D/2D composed operations are explained according to the displayed images through two LCD panels. In 3D mode, the elemental images and the mask images are displayed in two display panels. On the other hand, the light source image and 2D image are displayed in 2D mode. In addition, 3D/2D mode is obtained using the spatial separation for 3D and 2D modes. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, we carry out the preliminary experiments and present the optical results.

  • Computer-generated integral imaging system is an auto-stereoscopic display system that users can see and feel the stereoscopic images when they see the pre-rendered elemental images through a lens array. The process of constructing elemental images using computer graphics is called image mapping. Viewpoint vector rendering (VVR) method is one of the image mapping algorithm specially designed for real-time graphics applications, which would not be affected by the size of the rendered objects or the number of elemental lenses used in the integral imaging system. This paper describes a new VVR framework which improved its rendering performance considerably. It also compares the previous VVR implementation with the new VVR work utilizing GPU and shows that newer implementation shows pretty big improvements over the old method.

  • In this paper, we propose an implementation method of 3D image correlator using integral imaging technique. In the proposed method, elemental images of the reference and signal 3D objects are recorded by lenslet arrays and then reference and signal output plane images with high resolution are optically reconstructed on the output plane by displaying these elemental images into a display panel. Through cross-correlations between the reconstructed reference and the single plane images, 3D object recognition is performed. The proposed method can provide a precise 3D object recognition by using the high-resolution output plane images compared with the previous methods and implement all-optical structure for real-time 3D object recognition system. To show the feasibility of the proposed method, optical experiments are carried out and the results are presented.

  • Three-dimensional (3D) video scenes are complex and difficult to control, especially when scene switching occurs. In this paper, we propose two algorithms based on an incremental proportional-integral-derivative (PID) algorithm and a similarity analysis between views to improve the method of bit allocation for multi-view high efficiency video coding (MV-HEVC). Firstly, an incremental PID algorithm is introduced to control the buffer "liquid level" to reduce the negative impact on the target bit allocation of the view layer and frame layer owing to the fluctuation of the buffer "liquid level". Then, using the image similarity between views is used to establish, a bit allocation calculation model for the multi-view video main viewpoint and non-main viewpoint is established. Then, a bit allocation calculation method based on hierarchical B frames is proposed. Experimental simulation results verify that the algorithm ensures a smooth transition of image quality while increasing the coding efficiency, and the PSNR increases by 0.03 to 0.82dB while not significantly increasing the calculation complexity.

  • In this paper, a new integral imaging method with horizontal parallax only is proposed by modified use of elemental images pickuped from conventional integral imaging. The modified elemental images are obtained by magnifying single horizontal elemental image vertically and from which 3D images could be reconstructed. The proposed method can provide us large reduction of transmission information data for elemental images by eliminating the vertical parallax. The feasibility of our approach is experimentally demonstrated and its results are presented.

  • A computational method of integral imaging is proposed based on the lenslet model which allows that the orthoscopic 3D image can be reconstructed at any arbitrary position without any restrictions. The proposed method is not rigidly adhere to the fixed reconstructed distance, but also requires no additional procedure during the depth conversion process. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, we carry out the preliminary experiments and present the experimental results.

  • This paper deals with a tracking algorithm based on integral projection which tracks moving targets with varying brightness and size. An adaptive windowing technique is employed to reduce the sensitivity of the system to the complex background image and also to reduce the computational load. The threshold value is determined by considering both the size and the threshold value of the brightness intensity of the recognized target obtained in the previous processing step. Window position is estimated by using the information of the velocity and acceleration of the target. And integral projection is applied to find the position of the target in the window accurately. Experimental results show that moving targets with varying brightness and size can be tracked properly in noisy environments.

  • In this paper, we propose a 3D display method combining a pickup process using axially recorded multiple images and an integral imaging display process. First, we extract the color and depth information of 3D objects for displaying 3D images from axially recorded multiple 2D images. Next, using the extracted depth map and color images, elemental images are computationally synthesized based on a ray mapping model between 3D space and an elemental image plane. Finally, we display 3D images optically by an integral imaging system with a lenslet array. To show the usefulness of the proposed system, we carry out optical experiments for 3D objects and present the experimental results.
