Self-Representation and Korean Honorific Shifts

  • This study discovers the dynamic nature of an interactional hierarchy as well as an institutional hierarchy in the use of Korean honorifics. Data was collected from the conversations of two Korean female interlocutors. The interlocutors met for the first time in the U.S. and often changed their use of honorifics. The paper examines the method in which the two interlocutors negotiate hierarchies during interaction and how the negotiation is reflected in their use of honorific shifts. The paper also investigates honorific shifts in terms of self-representation to suggest that there is another hierarchy at work other than the institutional hierarchy. An examination of the data shows that the shifts occurred not randomly but strategically. The findings suggest that 1) interlocutors may negotiate interactional hierarchy during their conversation, often in the same sentence, 2) interactional hierarchy often cross the boundary of the institutional hierarchy to obtain interactional goals, in this case, intimacy, and 3) the utterance contents may play a significant role in the interlocutors' honorific shifts.

  • This paper aims to make a brief survey of the main concepts and theoretical frameworks proposed by Comparative Institutional Analysis. The main concepts to be discussed are 'institutional complementarity', 'diversity', 'system' and 'institutional hierarchy'. This paper also analyzes the recent evolution of U.S national innovation system using these concepts.

임상간호사의 위계지향적 간호조직문화와 이직의도 간 사회적 지지 조절효과 (The Moderating Effect of Social Support between Hierarchy-Oriented Nursing Organizational Culture and Turnover Intention of Clinical Nurses)

  • Purpose: This cross-sectional survey study explored the moderating effect of social support between hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture and turnover intention in clinical nurses. Methods: Data were collected using self-report questionnaires from 240 nurses working at three general hospitals in February 2018. Hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture, turnover intention and social support were measured using 5, 6, and 8 items, respectively, of validated instruments. Descriptive analysis and hierachical multiple regression were conducted using SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: Nurses rated $3.66{\pm}0.50$ for hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture, $3.40{\pm}0.64$ for turnover intention, and $3.77{\pm}0.56$ for social support respectively. Nurses' turnover intention was positively correlated with hierarchical organizational culture, but negatively with social support. The moderating effect of social support was not significant in the relationship between hierarchical nursing organizational culture and turnover intention. Conclusion: It is required to improve the hierarchy-oriented nursing organizational culture. Institutional preparation and education are urgently needed to strengthen the boss and peer support for clinical nurses and finally to reduce turnover intention.

본부와 방면 - 대순진리회 종교조직의 특성 - (Bonbu and Bangmyeon: The Lineage Principle in Daesoon Jinrihoe)

  • 대순진리회는 1969년 박우당에 의해 공식적으로 창설되었다. 이 글은 대순진리회가 증산을 신앙하는 다른 종단과 역사와 사상을 공유하고 있지만 조직 측면에서 타종단과 구별됨을 보여주고자 한다. 대순진리회 조직의 양대 기구인 본부와 방면은 대순진리회가 신종교로서 급속한 성장을 이루는 데 서로 기여했다. 본부는 중앙 집권적인 위계질서가 있는 반면, 방면은 친족 같은 강한 충성도와 공동체의식을 보여준다. 두 조직 기구에 공통적인 특성은 계보(lineage) 개념으로 이는 대순진리회 양대 조직의 분절화 원리이다. 미세하게 균형 잡힌 두 조직기구는 대순진리회의 종교적 사명 실현에 크게 기여했다. 균형의 첫 번째 축은 본부이다. 본부는 여주와 여주 외 지역 도장 및 수련센터의 핵심 종단 기구를 포함한다. 이러한 기구들은 모두 박우당 도전에 의해 설립되었다. 박우당 도전은 종단 운영의 제반사항을 총괄하는 종단의 헌법 곧 도헌을 제정하였다. 중앙종의회로부터 포덕, 감사, 기획 등에 이르는 본부의 제반 운영은 박우당 도전의 운영지침에 충실히 부합한다. 균형의 두 번째 축은 방면이다. 비교적 대규모 방면들은 그 자체가 복합적인 조직이다. 이 연구의 결론은 본부와 방면이라는 양대 축에 대한 조직유형적 특성구분이다. 로버트 퀸과 킴 카메론의 분류에 따른다면 대순진리회의 본부는 효율성을 중시하는 전형적인 중앙집권화 조직이다. 이에 반해 방면은 집단정체성과 공동체의식을 중시하는 친족에 가까운 조직이다.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the elements of community Design for urban housing complex, and to suggest design criteria for urban housing. It is recognized that the community facilities has to fit within the urban fabric. However with a correct focus, the community activities can acquire its own identity around which its internal social and economic activities can flourish. A community needs a focus and a well ordered hierarchy of all amenities in a balanced and cohesive environment. This has been achieved within the framework of following parameters as follows: Focus and Identity of community, Cohesion of areas and activities, Accessibility of general facilities, Community and institutional provisions, Safety and Hierarchy of commercial activities.

Analysis and Strategy of Economic Development Policy for SMEs in Indonesia

  • This study analyzes the strategy of determining economic development planning on SME improvement in Indonesia. A qualitative approach was conducted through interview questionnaires with twenty respondents, including sixteen Regional Apparatus Work Unit, Fisheries and Marine Office lecturers, subdistrict heads, and development observers. The method used is Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). AHP prioritizes criteria and sub-criteria to increase economic growth, reduce poverty, and increase community participation, while indicating the sub-criteria to optimize resource potential, strengthen micro-economy, develop tourism potential, utilize fishery potential and cultivation, and improve institutional performance. The AHP weighting results based on competitiveness and regional development of Bantaeng Regency is the priority in policy-making for a solution. The research shows that the government strategy, based on the perception of the stakeholders, is: optimizing resources strategy with priority to maximize the resource-carrying capacity that includes agriculture and farm, tourism development potential strategy, self-reliance of community groups and coaching and management. Strategies to strengthen micro economy include: industrial control, SMEs, community cooperatives and infrastructure improvements, strategies to improve institutional performance work capacity and work ethic, and strategies to utilize fisheries and cultivation potential technological development, provision of processed industries of fishery products, and improvement of the quality of the environment.

우리나라 의료기관 Institutional Review Board의 취약한 연구 대상자 관련 표준운영지침서 운영 현황과 윤리적 고찰 (An Ethical Consideration on the Standard Operating Procedure Operation Status and the Ethical Review of the Vulnerable Research Subjects of Institutional Review Board, a Medical Institution in Korea)

  • Purspose: The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning and definition of vulnerable subjects in clinical trials in light of domestic and international regulations and guidelines, to analyze the contents of standard operation procedures (SOPs) among advanced general hospitals in Korea that conduct clinical trials, and to examine deliberation procedures for operation plans. Methods: The study examined how vulnerable research subjects were defined and described in related regulations and the classification of vulnerable research subjects presented in the IRB/HRPP SOPs of 18 clinical trial institutions, including 11 AAHRPP-accreditated general hospitals in Korea, as well as the operation of the IRB deliberation. Results: Among all domestic and international regulations and guidelines, only the The Council for International Organization of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) guidelines explain why vulnerability is related to judgments on the severity of physical, psychological, and social harm, why individuals are vulnerable, and for what reasons. However, the classification of vulnerable subjects by institutions differed from the classification by the International Conference on Harmonization-Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP). A total of the 16 institutions classified children and minors as vulnerable research subjects. 14 institutions classified subjects who cannot consent freely were classified as vulnerable subjects. 15 institutions classified sujects who can be affected by the organizational hierarchy were classified as vulnerable subjects. Subjects in emergency situations were regarded as vulnerable research subjects in 8 of institutions, while people in wards, patients with incurable diseases, and the economically poor including the unemployed were categorized as vulnerable research subjects in 7, 4, and 4 of institutions, respectively. Additionally, some research subjects were not classified as vulnerable by ICH-GCP but were classified as vulnerable by domestic institutions 15 of the institutions classified pregnant women and fetuses as vulnerable, 11 classified the elderly as vulnerable, and 6 classified foreigners as vulnerable. Conclution: The regulations and institutional SOPs classify subjects differently, which may affect subject protection. There is a need to improve IRBs' classifications of vulnerable research subjects. It is also necessary to establish the standards according to the differences in deliberation processes. Further, it is recommended to maintain a consistent review of validity, assessment of risk/benefit, and a review using checklists and spokeperson. The review of IRB is to be carried out in a manner that respects human dignity by taking into account the physical, psychological, and social conditions of the subjects.

토목공사의 BIM 현황 및 활성화에 관한 연구 (The Current Status and Facilitation Strategy of BIM for Civil Infrastructure Projects)

  • 본 논문은 건설업에서 전 생애주기 동안 생성되는 정보와 업무 등을 통합 및 관리할 수 있는 BIM (Building Information Modeling)에 관해 국내 토목분야에서 BIM기술의 현황과 활성화를 위한 방안의 기초자료 제공을 목적으로 수행하였다. 이를 위해 토목분야와 건축분야의 실무자를 대상으로 국내 건설업의 BIM 적용 현황, 실무자 인식조사, 활성화 방안을 위한 계층 분석을 실시하였다. 설문조사 결과 BIM 활성화 저해요인, 단계별 업무에 따른 BIM의 필요성, BIM 적용 시 효과 등과 향후 BIM의 발전 가능성에 대한 질문들은 비슷한 경향을 나타냈다. 토목분야는 건축분야에 비해 BIM의 활용 현황, 기술 교육 정도 등이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. BIM의 활성화 방안을 위한 AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) 분석 시에는 재무적, 운영적, 투자적, 기술적, 제도적인 부문별로 중요도에 따른 순위 결과 기술적인 부문이 중요하게 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 BIM의 현황 및 활성화를 위한 분석 결과를 기반으로 효율적인 방안을 제시함으로써 향후 토목분야에 BIM 적용 시 기본방향을 위한 연구에 활용될 수 있다.

4차 산업혁명 관련 농학계 융·복합 R&D 어젠다 연구 (Study on Agricultural Science Convergence R&D Agenda under the Fourth Industry Revolution)

  • 본 연구는 농업 분야가 4차 산업혁명 시대에 대응하기 위해 농학계 융 복합 R&D가 어떠한 방향을 가져야 하는지 어젠다를 제시하는 데에 그 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 농업 R&D를 수행 중인 학계 및 연구계 전문가들을 대상으로 계층화분석방법(Analytic Hierarchy Process, AHP)을 적용하여 농학계 융 복합 R&D 관련 어젠다를 제시한다. 분석 결과, 농학계 R&D는 다음과 같은 방향으로 이루어질 필요가 있다. 첫째, 단편적 기술 혁신에 매몰되기보다는 미래형 인재 양성이 우선시 되어야 한다. 둘째, 단기, 중기, 장기에 걸쳐 필요한 논의에 적합하게 대응하도록 농학계 R&D 로드맵이 제시되어야 한다. 셋째, 농학계 응답자 전체, 학계 및 연구계 그룹별로 상이한 중요도 우선순위를 보임에 따라 양자 간 상호 교류 및 협력 체계를 구축하여 시너지 효과를 창출해야 한다. 넷째, 변화하는 농학계 R&D 여건에 탄력적으로 대응하고 인류 삶 개선이라는 4차 산업혁명의 본질을 추구하기 위해 제도적 규제 개선과 인문사회학적 소양이 함께 강조되어야 한다.

희망의 공간을 향하여: 개인의 윤리적 실천과 공동체 (The Space of Hope: the Individual′s Ethical Practice and Community)

  • My purpose in this paper is to construct what I call "the space of hope" for the individual′s unfettered interpretation of the world and examine its ethical and political potential. 1 discuss the network of context to define the nature and scope of the space and also suggest that the individual′s interpretation of the world should be deemed a form of ethical practice or commitment. 1 would like to add that the term context, which refers, among other things, to the organic and dynamic relationship between individual and community, is meant to be strategic: it presupposes productive malleability, even slipperiness, in order to destabilize the institutional or ideological hierarchy between center and margin and enhance the individual′s self-conscious negotiation with his or her own community. It is my contention that every act of interpretation is always under some kind of contextual pressure and that the individual is able, in turn, to define and construct the context. This interaction represents a way to guard against the inimical force of totalization in the realms of theory and practice and can be summed up, that is, tentatively and strategically, in the idea of positionality.
