Support-vector-machine Based Sensorless Control of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor

  • Speed and torque control of PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) are usually achieved by using position and speed sensors which require additional mounting space, reduce the reliability in harsh environments and increase the cost of a motor. Therefore, many studies have been performed for the elimination of speed and position sensors. In this paper, a novel speed sensorless control of a permanent magnet synchronous motor based on SVMR(Support Vector Machine Regression) is presented. The SVM regression method is an algorithm that estimates an unknown mapping between a system's input and outputs, from the available data or training data. Two well-known different voltage model is necessary to estimate the speed of a PMSM. The validity and the usefulness of proposed algorithm are thoroughly verified through numerical simulation.

  • It is called vehicle pull when a vehicle drifts in the lateral direction under the straight-ahead motion with no steering or external input. Recently vehicle pull draws attention as one of the critical evaluation items from the customers on the vehicle quality. It is generally recognized that the vehicle pull is complex phenomena due to internal and external factors. In this paper the relations between vehicle pull and ire were investigated through close survey on the road test results from the final inspection of car manufactures. Through this investigation the factors are identified which play an important role in causing vehicle pull problem.

  • Variable Structure System(VSS) la being extended to a new control system of ac servo machines for its merits of simple mechanism and robustness. This paper has studied about applying VSS to position control for brushless servo motor. But VSS has the chattering problem of control input. This chattering phenomenon cause acoustic noises, torque ripple and increase harmonics of the current. One of the useful way to eliminate this defect of VSS, linearlizing the switching function is discussed here. Though the conventional method of linearizing the switching function diminishes the chattering, it may degrade the robustness of the system. In this paper, new linearized switching function which shows robust performance to the parametric variation and reduces chattering simultaneously is introduced and assured by simulation.

  • The paper proposes the characteristics analysis for a Transverse flux type Switched Reluctance Motor(TSRM) considering the nonlinear magnetic phenomena. To investigate the nonlinear parameters of magnetic equivalent circuit, the designed TSRM is analyzed by the 2D and 3D finite element method as functions of input current and angular displacement. On the base of FEM analysis results, the current, torque, back EMF and output power wave of TSRM are simulated from the motion equation by MATLAB/Simulink. The simulated performance characteristics for a 4-phase, 24-pole TSRM are verified by experimental results of a prototype TSRM.

  • Efficiency optimization of an indirect vector controlled induction motor drive is proposed. The loss models are used in the validation of the fuzzy logic based on-line efficiency optimization control. At steady state, the fuzzy controller adaptively changes the excitation current on the basis of measured input power, until the maximum efficiency point is reached. The pulsating torque, due to flux reduction, has been compensated by an ingenious feedforward scheme. During transient state, rated flux is established to get the best transient response. Through a comprehensive simulation study, the results confirmed the validity of the proposed method.

  • To achieve the high performance speed control of synchronous permanent magnet motor, the influence of iron loss can not be negleced as the increase of driving frequency with high speed operation. This paper proposes a maximum efficiency control algorithm for permanent magnet synchonous motors by controlling the d-axis component of the armature current at any speed and torque. The objective of the optimum efficiency controller is to seek a combination of d-q axis current components which provide minimum input power (minimum losses) at a certain operating point by adding a small amout of perturbation to the d-axis current reference.

  • The induction motor drive for the spindle of machining center is required to do not only a constant torque operation in low speed region(below base rpm), but also a constant power operation in high speed region(beyond base rpm). Also, control voltage shortage due to high speed operation must be overcome. The vector controlled inverter system with input 3 phase pwm converter is designed for that kind of condition. We experimented the performance of the inverter system with spindle motor made by Hyosung industries co.

  • Because of the convenience of variable speed control and proportion of input current and torque, DC servo motor has been used as an actuator. With increasing development speed of robot and factory automation machinery, the actuator of excellent control characteristics is demanded. In this paper, The control characteristics of DC servo motor is tested by Fuzzy control with microprocessor and DC servo motor controller is designed for drive of the cartesian coordinate type robot. The control characteristics experimentation is realized to one axis position, two axes coordinate and circular motion control by experimental equipments.

  • This paper presents the control algorithm for maximum efficiency drives of an induction motor system with the high dynamic performance. This system uses a simple model of the induction motor that includes equations of iron losses. The model, which only requires the parameters of induction motor, is referred to a field-oriented frame. The minimum point of the input power can be obtained at the steady state condition. The reference torque and flux currents for the vector control of induction motors are calculated by the optimal efficiency control algorithm. The drive system with the proposed efficiency optimization controller has been implemented by a 32 bit floating point TMS320C32 DSP chip. The results show the effectiveness of the control strategy proposed for the induction motor drive.

  • A dynamic simulation model for the brush less dc (BLDC) motor drives using Matlab is presented. In this model, an entire BLDC motor drive, including power conversion unit, BLDC motor, and speed/torque control system, is investigated. Especially, the PWM inverter is modeled using switching function concept, so that the detailed voltage and current waveforms, such as line-to-line voltages, inverter input current, ac line current, and switch/diode currents, can be obtained and average/rms ratings of the components can be easily calculated. Also, the proposed model is made into modular blocks and it can be easily extended to other ac motor applications with a little modification. The detailed modeling method is explained and its actual implementation is described. The validity of the proposed model is verified by various simulation results.
