Selenium species (inorganic selenium, selenoaminoacids, and selenoproteins) were analyzed using anion exchange and affinity chromatography, which were connected to ICP/MS for the blood serum of sows fed by seleniumfortified feed. The Anion Exchange PRP X-100 column was used for the analysis of inorganic selenium (Se4+ and Se6+) and selenoaminoacids. The HEP column was used to separate SelP from GPx+SeAlb in selenoproteins. A quantitative analysis was performed using the post-column isotope dilution technique. The lactating sows were divided into three groups and fed by selenium fortified feed (organic 0.3 mg/kg, 0.6 mg/kg and inorganic 0.6 mg/kg) for four weeks. The test groups showed increases in selenoaminoacids compared with the control group, except the inorganic feed group. There was no significant difference between the organic feed groups. All test groups showed increases in selenoproteins. In particular, SelP showed a large increase that was 1.5 times higher than the other proteins.

Ti-6Al-4V alloy have been used for dental implant because of its excellent biocompatibility, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties. However, the integration of such implant in bone was not in good condition to achieve improved osseointergraiton. For solving this problem, calcium phosphate (CaP) has been applied as coating materials on Ti alloy implants for hard tissue applications because its chemical similarity to the inorganic component of human bone, capability of conducting bone formation and strong affinity to the surrounding bone tissue. Various metallic elements are known to play an important role in the bone formation and also affect bone mineral characteristics. Especially, Zn is essential for the growth of the human and Zn coating has a major impact on the improvement of corrosion resistance. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is a promising technology to produce porous and firmly adherent inorganic Zn containing TiO2(Zn-TiO2)coatings on Ti surface, and the a mount of Zn introduced in to the coatings can be optimized by altering the electrolyte composition. In this study, effect of Zn content on the corrosion behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy after plasma electrolytic oxidation were studied by SEM, EDS, XRD, AC impedance, and potentiodynamic polarization test. The potentiodynamic polarization and AC impedance tests for corrosion behaviors were carried out in 0.9% NaCl solution at similar body temperature using a potentiostat with a scan rate of 1.67 mV/s and potential range from -1500 mV to +2000 mV. Also, AC impedance was performed at frequencies ranging from 10 MHz to 100 kHz for corrosion resistance.

Various metallic elements, such as strontium (Sr), magnesium (Mg), zinc (Zn), sodium (Na), silicon (Si), silver (Ag), and yttrium (Y) are known to play an important role in the bone formation and also affect bone mineral characteristics, such as crystallinity, degradation behavior, and mechanical properties. Especially, Zn is essential for the growth of the human and Zn coating has a major impact on the improvement of corrosion resistance. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) is a promising technology to produce porous and firmly adherent inorganic Zn containing $TiO_2(Zn-TiO_2)$coatings on Ti surface, and the a mount of Zn introduced in to the coatings can be optimized by altering the electrolyte composition. In this study, corrosion behavior of Ti-6Al-4V alloy after plasma electrolytic oxidation in solutions containing Ca, P and Zn were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), AC impedance, and potentiodynamic polarization test. A series of $Zn-TiO_2$ coatings are produced on Ti dental implant using PEO, with the substitution degree, respectively, at 0, 5, 10 and 20%. The potentiodynamic polarization and AC impedance tests for corrosion behaviors were carried out in 0.9% NaCl solution at similar body temperature using a potentiostat with a scan rate of 1.67mV/s and potential range from -1500mV to +2000mV. The bioavailability of dissolved organic nitrogen (DON) by dominant species Chaetoceros debilis and Leptocylindrus danicus under dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN)-limited condition in the southwestern East Sea was conducted to assess the quantitative evaluation using growth kinetic experiment. Nitrogen sources were nitrate and ammonium as DIN, glycine and urea, which is portion component of DON in East Sea. Maximum specific growth rate (${\mu}_{max}$) and half-saturation constant ($K_s$) of C. debilis calculated from Monod equations were estimated to be $1.50day^{-1}$ and $1.62{\mu}M$ in nitrate, $1.13day^{-1}$ and $6.97{\mu}M$ in ammonium, $1.46day^{-1}$ and $3.36{\mu}M$ in glycine, $0.93day^{-1}$ and $0.55{\mu}M$ in urea, respectively. Also, L. danics was estimated to be $1.55day^{-1}$ and $5.21{\mu}M$ in nitrate, $1.57day^{-1}$ and $4.57{\mu}M$ in ammonium, $1.47day^{-1}$ and $3.80{\mu}M$ in glycine, $1.42day^{-1}$ and $1.94{\mu}M$ in urea, respectively. Both C. debilis and L. dancius have higher affinity of urea than DIN. The high affinity of urea was indicated that the dominant species were able to growth using urea under DIN-limited conditions. Thus, DON utilization of phytoplankton may be one of the important dominant strategy under DIN-limited environments such as southwestern East Sea.
We investigated the immunological function of cheese whey protein concentrate (CWPC), which is a by-product of cheese production, using mitogenic activity in murine splenocytes as an index. A fraction isolated by gel filtration and anion exchange chromatography of CWPC showed high mitogenic activity, comparable to the activity of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The fraction was detected as a single band on SDS-PAGE. It contained calcium, inorganic phosphorus, and carbo-hydrate, indicating the active component to be a glycophosphopeptide (GPP) Since pronase digestion of GPP did not reduce its mitogenic activity, carbohydrate rather than peptide may be important in the activity, When applied on an anti-${\beta}$-caseinophosphopeptide (${\beta}$-CPP ) antibody affinity column, the GPP was separated into two components, one with affinity to ${\beta}$-CPP and the other without such affinity. Both the components contained N-linked oligosaccharide chains and had the mitogenic activity. These results demonstrate that cheese whey contains a GPP having strong mitogenic activity

Natural zeolites have exhibited high sorption capacity for inorganic cations including heavy metals and ammonium. Moreover, they were proven to be effective for environmental applications such as permeable barriers for controlling the spread of cation-contaminated groundwater. However zeolites have little or no affinity for anionic species like chromium, as they possess a net negative structural charge. To achieve the simultaneous sorption for anionic contaminants, surfactant-modified zeolite (SMZ) has been employed as the possible sorbents. Current study focuses on simultaneous removal of heavy metals having different ionic form in aqueous solution, cadmium (C $d^{2+}$) and chromium (Cr $O_{4}$$^{2-}$), using newly developed materials, ZanF. ZanF, a potential alternative to SMZ, was derived from zeolite modified by Fe(II) chloride followed by reduction with sodium borohydride. Batch experiments were performed to estimate the removal efficiency of ZanF at different conditions. Under different pH ranging from 2 to 6, removal efficiency was investigated. And C $d^{2+}$ removal efficiency was estimated by varying background concentration of Cr $O_{4}$$^{2-}$, and vice versa. With the test results, ZanF was expected to be a possible reactive materials alternative to SMZ in permeable reactive barriers (PRBs) for treating the contaminated groundwater with cationic and anionic heavy metals.als.

Flat form technology for constructing anticancer loaded multi-walled carbon nanotubes (mwCNTs) was introduced in this study. Conventional anticancer drugs, such as MTX (Methotrexate), cisplatin, DOX (Doxorubicin hydrochloride), DAU (Daunorubicin) and EPI (epirubicin) were bio-conjugated with folic acid (FA) for selective targeting tumor cells. Loading efficiencies of the used anticancer drugs on mwCNTs have shown different order of bindings depending on the molecular bind affinity of NH (amine) formation on mwCNTs. MTT assays have shown increased selective target efficiency of FA conjugated mwCNTs on breast cancer cell growth inhibition. All results collectively indicated promising application of mwCNTs as a smart inorganic nanomaterial for selective targeting drug delivery vehicle at tumor tissues.
Ability of iron acquisition of pathogenic microorganisms functions as a virulence factor. Candida albicans, a fungal pathogen that requires iron for growth, is susceptible to growth retardation by high-affinity iron binding proteins such as transferrin. Recently, we reported that C. albicans could utilize the heme as a part of heme-containing proteins dissociated by heme oxygenase, CaHMX1. In search of another pathway that C. albicans can use to bypass the growth regulation produced by iron limitation, this present study examined utilization of non-candidal siderophores such as Desferal and rhodotorulic acid (RA) for acquisition of inorganic iron by the fungus. C. albicans secreting no siderophores was cultured in iron-free (pretreated with apotransferrin for 24 h) (culture medium). Once growth of the yeast reached stasis from iron starvation, a siderophore was added to the culture media. Results showed that cultures containing apotransferrin within a dialysis membrane recovered growth to the level of untreated controls, whereas C. albicans yeast cells in direct contact with soluble iron-free (apo) transferrin recovered growth only partially. When static growth from iron limitation was reached, the addition of siderophore-apotransferrin complex to culture medium also permitted the yeast to recover growth from apotransferrin growth regulation. All the data show that C. albicans can utilize the non-candidal siderophores for iron acquisition under transferrin regulation as can pathogenic bacteria.
A strain capable of producing thermostable chitinase suitable for chitooligosaccharide production was isolated from high temperature environment and identified as Bacillus licheniformis. The chitinase from Bacillus licheniformis KFB-Cl4 was only induced by addition of colloidal thitin into the basal medium as carbon source, showing the decrease of the chitinase production by supplernental addition of other carbon sources into the medium containing 1.0% colloidal chitin. Among organic and inorganic nitrogen sources, yeast extract was the most effective for the increase of total activity and specific activity, and had high affinity for the enzyme production. The optimum temperature of cell growth and thermostable chitinase production was 55$\circ$C. The optimum culture medium was composed of 1.2% colloidal chitin, 0.15% K$_{2}$HPO$_{4}$, 0.05% KH$_{2}$PO$_{4}$, 0.01% MgSO$_{4}$-7H$_{2}$O, 0.1% yeast extract (pH 6.5). Bacillus licheniformis KFB-C14 produced the thermostable chitinase of 3.89 units per ml culture fluid and 7.4 units per mg protein under rotary shaking at 150 rpm for 40 hr.
Sustainable energy supplies without the recharging and replacement of charge storage device have become increasingly important. Among various energy harvesters, the triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) has attracted considerable attention due to its high instantaneous output power, broad selection of available materials, eco-friendly and inexpensive fabrication process, and various working modes customized for target applications. The TENG harvests electrical energy from wasted mechanical energy in the ambient environment. TENG devices are very likely to be used in next-generation renewable energy and energy harvesting. TENG devices have the advantage of being able to manufacture very simple power devices. In this experiment, various organic dielectrics and inorganic dielectrics were used to improve the open voltage of TENG, Among the various organic dielectrics, Teflon-based FEP, which has the highest electron affinity, showed the highest open voltage and Al electrode was fabricated on Teflon substrate by sputtering deposition process. And AAO (Anodized Aluminum Oxide) nanostructures were applied to maximize the specific surface area of the TENG device. The power generation of TENG within the acceleration level (0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2 G) and the frequency range (5-120 Hz) of the domestic transport environment was up to 4 V.
