A new method of numerical simulating prediction and decontamination effect evaluation for abrasive jet decontamination to radioactively contaminated metal is proposed. Based on the Computational Fluid Dynamics and Discrete Element Model (CFD-DEM) coupled simulation model, the motion patterns and distribution of abrasives can be predicted, and the decontamination effect can be evaluated by image processing and recognition technology. The impact of three key parameters (impact distance, inlet pressure, abrasive mass flow rate) on the decontamination effect is revealed. Moreover, here are experiments of reliability verification to decontamination effect and numerical simulation methods that has been conducted. The results show that: 60Co and other homogeneous solid solution radioactive pollutants can be removed by abrasive jet, and the average removal rate of Co exceeds 80%. It is reliable for the proposed numerical simulation and evaluation method because of the well goodness of fit between predicted value and actual values: The predicted values and actual values of the abrasive distribution diameter are Ф57 and Ф55; the total coverage rate is 26.42% and 23.50%; the average impact velocity is 81.73 m/s and 78.00 m/s. Further analysis shows that the impact distance has a significant impact on the distribution of abrasive particles on the target surface, the coverage rate of the core area increases at first, and then decreases with the increase of the impact distance of the nozzle, which reach a maximum of 14.44% at 300 mm. It is recommended to set the impact distance around 300 mm, because at this time the core area coverage of the abrasive is the largest and the impact velocity is stable at the highest speed of 81.94 m/s. The impact of the nozzle inlet pressure on the decontamination effect mainly affects the impact kinetic energy of the abrasive and has little impact on the distribution. The greater the inlet pressure, the greater the impact kinetic energy, and the stronger the decontamination ability of the abrasive. But in return, the energy consumption is higher, too. For the decontamination of radioactively contaminated metals, it is recommended to set the inlet pressure of the nozzle at around 0.6 MPa. Because most of the Co elements can be removed under this pressure. Increasing the mass and flow of abrasives appropriately can enhance the decontamination effectiveness. The total mass of abrasives per unit decontamination area is suggested to be 50 g because the core area coverage rate of the abrasive is relatively large under this condition; and the nozzle wear extent is acceptable.
The interaction between the surface radiation and the mixed convection transport from an isolated thermal source, with a uniform surface heat flux input and located in a rectangular enclosure, is stuied numerically. The enclosure simulates a practical system such an air cooled electric device, where an air-stream flows through the openings on the two vertical walls. The heat source represents an electric component located in such an enclosure. The size of this cavity is $0.1[m]{\times}0.1[m]$. The inlet velocity is assumed as 0.07[m/s] and the inlet temperature is maintained as $27^{\circ}C$. The inflow is kept at a fixed position. Laminar, two dimensional flow is assumed, and the problem lies in the mixed convection regime, governed by buoyancy force and surface readiation. The significant variables include the location of the out-flow opening, of the heat source and the wall emissivity. The basic nature of the resulting interaction betwwn the externally induced air stream and the buoyancy-driven flow generated by the source is investigated. As a result, the best location of the heat source to make the active heat transfer is 0.075[m] from the left wall on the floor. The trends observed are also discussed in terms of heat removal from practical systems such as electric circuitry.

A surface piercing propeller (SPP) in tunnel has been proposed recently as a new propulsion system for a high speed air cavity ship. The purpose of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of the SPP in tunnel through a series of model tests. A model propulsion system is placed on a dummy body made of Acrylics. The tunnel is divided into two regions by a guide vane extending from the inlet to the center of the propeller shaft. Air has been supplied from an air nozzle placed at the bottom of the dummy body and the changes in propeller performances caused by the air flow are investigated. The measurements are done for open water and in-tunnel conditions, both for fully and partially submerged propeller. The influence of the guide vane configurations on the propeller performance is also studied. The experiments are performed at the variable pressure circulation water channel of Inha University
Effect of freshwater discharge on the long-term salt balance in the Northern and Central Indian River Lagoon (IRL) is successfully simulated by a new analytical solution to a water balance-based one-dimensional salt conservation equation. Sensitivity tests show that the salinity levels drop abruptly even during the dry season (November to May) due to the high surface runoff discharge caused by tropical storms, depressions, and passage of cold fronts. Increasing surface runoff and direct precipitation has risen by ten times, lowering the salinity level down to 12psu in the Northern Central zone, and to 17 psu in the Northern zone. However, the salinity level in the Southern Central zone has decreased to 25 psu. High sensitivity of the Northern Central zone to freshwater discharge can be partially explained by a rapid urbanization in this zone. During the dry season, less sensitivity of the Southern Central zone to the increased surface runoff is attributed to the proximity of the zone to the Sebastian Inlet and a strong diffusion condition possibly resulting from the seawater intrusion to the surficial aquifer at the Vero Beach. During the wet season, however, the whole study area is highly sensitive to freshwater discharge due to the weak diffusion conditions. High sensitivity of the IRL to the given diffusion conditions guarantees that the fresh-water release occurs during strong wind conditions, achieving both flood control in the drainage basin and a proper salinity regime in the IRL.

Optimization of fluidized bed granulating conditions for yield, bulk density, and tapped density of powdered milk was determined using response surface methodology. Yield of powdered milk was greatly affected by feeding rate of water, and bulk density and tapped density could be reduced by decreasing of atomization pressure. The optimum conditions for fluidized bed granulating of powdered milk were predicted with 6$0^{\circ}C$ of inlet air temperature, 16 mL/min of feeding rate, and 2.1 bar of atomization pressure. Also 94% of yield 0.350 g/㎤ of bulk density, and 0.446 g/㎤ of tapped density of powdered milk could be obtained by the optimum granulating conditions.
The effects of surface roughness on a spatially-developing turbulent boundary layer (TBL) were investigated by performing direct numerical simulations of TBLs over rough and smooth walls. The Reynolds number based on the momentum thickness was varied in the range $Re_{\theta}=300{\sim}1400$. The roughness elements used were periodically arranged two-dimensional spanwise rods, and the roughness height was $k=1.5{\theta}_{in}$, which corresponds to $k/{\delta}=0.045{\sim}0.125$. To avoid generating a rough wall inflow, which is prohibitively difficult, a step change from smooth to rough was placed $80{\theta}_{in}$ downstream from the inlet. The spatially-developing characteristics of the rough-wall TBL were examined. Along the streamwise direction, the friction velocity approached a constant value and a self-preserving form of the turbulent stress was obtained. Introduction of the roughness elements affected the turbulent stress not only in the roughness sublayer but also in the outer layer. Despite the roughness-induced increase of the turbulent stress in the outer layer, the roughness had only a relatively small effect on the anisotropic Reynolds stress tensor in the outer layer. Inspection of the triple products of the velocity fluctuations revealed that introducing the roughness elements onto the smooth wall had a marked effect on vertical turbulent transport across the whole TBL. By contrast, good surface similarity in the outer layer was obtained for the third-order moments of the velocity fluctuations.

Micro-hole drilling by EDM and production of fine rods for the tool electrode or other purpose have become very important in industry. This paper suggests a new method for production of very fine rods by ultrasonic-assisted chemical machining and describes the machining characteristics of micro-hole drilling by EDM. For fine rods, copper wires of initial diameter of 250.mum are used and successfully machined into a diameter of less than 30.mum with good repeatability. The ultrasonic agitation not only accelerated the material removal rate uniformly, but also produced smooth surfaces of fine rods. To drill the micro-hole, kerosene and pure water is used as a dielectric. From the experiment, water is superior to kerosene with respect to surface roughness of inlet and outlet of hole and machined surface as well as electrode wear. However, due to the electrochemical reaction of water, small pits are remained on the workpiece surface.
During mid-loop operation of Nuclear Power Plant, to prevent the Decay Heat Removal System (DHRS) from failure due to air entrainment of free surface vortex in the piping system, a set of simulating experiments was performed. Through these experiments, a relation between the non-dimensionalized numbers, such as H/d, Froude number, Reynolds number, was found. It was also found that the perturbation of the system by the disturbance such as pump start, valve operation, etc., has a strong effect on the free surface vortex. Furthermore, from viewpoint of reactor safety, a modified inlet device which is reducer type is strongly recommended for the prevention of air entrainment into DHRS.
Garolim Bay is typically a semi-enclosed bay without a significant supply of freshwater and sediments from surrounding drainage area. The bay have a variety of subenvironments including deep tidal channels, tidal flats, sand dunes, islands, and inlet. Because environmental quality of bay strongly depends on the exchange of water over benthic subenvironments, it is necessary to analyze quantitatively exchange of water between sea and bay. Hydro-hypsography is the relative distribution of water-surface areas at different depths. The hydro-hypsographic curve in Garolim bay shows that the tidal flats occupy about 77 % of the bay surface. Hydraulic turn-over time (HTT) is 1.32 tidal cycles which indicate well-flushed bay. Hydro-hypsometric techniques will be useful for assessments of health of bays.
