The cross flow turbine attracts more and more attention for its relatively wide operating range and simple structure. In this study, a novel type of micro cross flow turbine is developed for application to a step in an irrigational channel. The head of the turbine is only H=4.3m and the turbine inlet channel is open ducted type, which has barely been studied. The efficiency of the turbine with inlet open duct channel is relatively low. Therefore, a guide nozzle on the turbine inlet is attached to improve the performance of the turbine. The guide nozzle shapes are investigated to find the best shape for the turbine. The guide nozzle plays an important role on directing flow at the runner entry, and it also decreases the negative torque loss by reducing the pressure difference in Region 1. There is 12.5% of efficiency improvement by attaching a well shaped guide nozzle on the turbine inlet.
In this study, the flow characteristics within supersonic cascades are numerically investigated by using Fine Turbo, a commercial CFD code. Cascade flows are computed for three different inlet conditions. : a uniform supersonic inlet condition, a linear nozzle and a converging-diverging nozzle located in front of cascades. The effect of inlet conditions is compared and flow characteristics including shock patterns and shock-boundary layer interaction are analyzed. Also the effect of design parameters such as pitch-chord ratio, blade angle and blade surface curvature on the flow within supersonic cascades are studied.
The prediction of the critical Reynolds number in the stability curie of liquid jet was mainly analyzed by the empirical correlations and the experimental data through the literature. The factors affecting the critical Reynolds number include Ohnesorge number, nozzle length-diameter ratio, ambient pressure and nozzle inlet type. The nozzle inlet type was divided into two groups according to the dependence of the critical Reynolds number on the length-to-diameter ratio of nozzle. The empirical correlations for the critical Reynolds number as a function of above factors mentioned are newly proposed.
Experimental study on the flow field inside the nozzle for radial turbine was performed. At design point, the pressure is high and the Mach number is low at the pressure side of the nozzle inlet semi-vaneless space as the flow turns through the nozzle vanes. As the flow accelerates through the nozzle passage to the throat the pressure level at the pressure and suction sides becomes similar. The flow continued accelerating from the throat to the inlet of turbine wheel and the pressure field became uniform in the circumferential direction in the vaneless space. In high expansion ratio condition, strong favorable pressure gradient band region occurred just after the throat in the semi-vaneless space in the circumferential direction and the pressure became uniform in the circumferential direction after this band. In low expansion ratio condition, core flow acceleration is dominant after the throat and this non-uniform pressure field reached to the inlet of turbine wheel.
Exhaust gas from the combustion of automobiles adversely affects the human body and even pollutes the atmosphere. This study investigated the influence of exhaust gas change on intake manifold using the nozzle. First, the flow analysis was performed using the 3D flow analysis program. When the nozzle inlet air velocity increased, the average air velocity in the nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$ increased 37.3% and 31.9% respectively at the intake manifold outlet. As the nozzle inlet air velocity increased, the maximum flow rate of air increased to 42.2% and 32.6%, respectively at nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$. In order to verify the analysis results, experiments on the exhaust gas were performed in the engine simulation system. As the nozzle inlet velocity increased, HC values decreased by 42.4% and 31.4% at nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$, respectively. And CO values decreased by 40.7% and 31.1% at nozzle diameters of ${\Phi}2.5$ and ${\Phi}5$.
A present study is the flow characteristics of impinging jet by PIV measurement and numerical analysis. The flow characteristics of impinging jet flow are affected greatly by nozzle inlet velocity. An circular sharp edged nozzle type$(45^{\circ})$ was used to achieve uniform mean velocity at the nozzle inlet, and its diameter is 10mm(d). Therefore, the flow characteristics on the impinging jet can be changed largely by the control of main flow. In this parent study, we investigate the effects of inlet velocity, its variable is nozzle inlet Reynolds numbers(Re=1500, 3000, 4500, 6000 and 7500).

Small hydropower is a reliable energy technology to be considered for providing clean electricity generation. Producing electrical energy by small hydropower is the most efficient contribution to renewable energy. Cross-flow turbine is adopted primarily because of its simple structure and high possibility of applying to small hydropower. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of inlet nozzle shape on the performance and internal flow of a cross-flow turbine for small hydropower by CFD analysis. Moreover, the shape effect of draft tube has been investigated according to modified shapes of the length and the diffuse angle. The results show that relatively narrow and converging inlet nozzle shape gives better effect on the performance of the turbine.

The liquid phase LPG injection (LPLI) system (the third generation technology) has been considered as one of the next generation fuel supply systems for LPG vehicles, since it has a very strong potential to accomplish the higher power, higher efficiency, and lower emission characteristics than the mixer type(the second generation technology) fuel supply system However. when a liquid LPG fuel is injected into the inlet duct of an engine, a large quantity of heat is extracted due to evaporation of fuel. This leads to freezing of the moisture in the air around the outlet of a nozzle, which is called icing phenomenon. It may cause damage to the outlet nozzle of an injector or inlet valve seat. In this work, the experimental investigation of the icing phenomenon was carried out The results showed that the icing phenomenon and process were mainly affected by humidity of inlet air instead of air temperature in the inlet duel. Also, it was observed that the total ice formed around the nozzle weighs at about $150mg{\sim}260mg$ after injection for ten minutes. And some fuel species were found in the ice attached at the front side of a nozzle, while frozen ice attached at the back of a nozzle was mostly' consisted of moisture of inlet air. Therefore, some frozen ice deposit. detached from front nozzle of an injector, may cause a problem of unfavorable air fuel ratio control in the small LPLI engine.
The breakup of liquid jet is the result of competing, unstable hydrodynamic forces acting on the liquid jet as it exit the nozzle. The nozzle geometry and up-stream injection conditions affect the characteristics of flow inside the nozzle, such as turbulence and cavitation bubbles. A set of calculation of the internal flow in a single hole type nozzle were performed using a two dimensional flow simulation under different nozzle geometry and up-stream flow conditions. The calculation showed that the turbulent intensity and discharge coefficient are related to needle position. The diesel nozzle with sharp inlet under actual engine condition has possibility of cavitation, but round inlet nozzle has no possibility of cavitation.
