Effects of holding pressure affecting cooling time in injection molding (사출성형시 보압이 냉각시간에 미치는 영향)

  • There occur not only many problems in the injection process but also low quality productivity due to the injection conditions of various injection factors. Injection molding process factors such as molding temperature, injection pressure, flow rate and flow velocity, must be controlled properly in filling and packing phases in the injection molding process. In this study, effects of these factors on the injection molding were investigated through the flow analysis for the holding pressure affecting cooling time. Results of this study would be helpful to setting of holding pressure for optimization of forming condition in order to reduce cooling time in injection molding.

Combustion Characteristics of Gasoline Direct Injection Engine with Water Injection into Intake Port under Low Engine-Load Operating Condition (낮은 엔진 부하의 운전조건에서 흡기포트 내 물 분사에 따른 가솔린 직접분사 엔진의 연소 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of water injection on combustion characteristics of gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine with turbo-charger under low-load operating condition. The test engine used in this study has four-cylinder and 10.2 of compression ratio. In order to study the effect of water injection ratio on combustion characteristics, the water was injected into the intake port from 10% to 50%, based on fuel injection quantity. From the experiment, it revealed that the water injection induced the improvement of fuel economy because of the advance of spark-timing by the reduction of in-cylinder temperature. In addition, the water injection caused the prolong of extension of the ignition delay and slight increase of burn duration.

  • Recently we have a growing interest in environmental pollution and alternative energy. Diesel engine is generally used to produce the power on the ground and the sea. However, the combustion characteristics are changed on account of the wear of fuel system and the altered ambient condition of the combustion chamber by the increment of the engine operation hour. Therefore combustion characteristics on fuel injection timing are experimentally investigated to find out the optimum fuel injection timing in the case of the aged diesel engine using biodiesel blend oil. Cylinder pressure, rate of pressure rise, rate of heat release and combustion gas temperature are risen by the advancing fuel injection timing, while the exhaust gas temperature and soot emission level are decreased by the advancing of fuel injection timing. The least specific fuel oil consumption is indicated at BTDC $26^{\circ}$ CA on the 75%load and at 1800rpm.

  • Precision injection mold is an essential element in order to manufacture small and precision plastic lenses used for phone camera. There are many critical factors to meet the requested specifications of high quality plastic lenses. One of the main issues to realize high quality is minimizing decenter value, which becomes more critical as pixel numbers increases. This study suggests the method to minimize decenter value by modifying ejecting structure of the mold. Decenter value of injection-molded lens decreased to 1 ${\mu}m$ level from 5 ${\mu}m$ by applying suggested ejecting method. Also, we also developed BIS (Built-in Sensor) based smart mold system, which has pressure and temperature sensors inside of the mold. Pressure and temperature profiles from cavities are obtained and can be used for deduction of optimal injection molding condition, filling imbalance evaluation, status monitoring of injection molding and prediction of lens quality.

  • In this study, we focus on the improvement of the filling efficiency in injection molding by application of ultrasonic vibration. While studies about the filling efficiency of typical filling processes in the injection molding have been widely performed, there have been only few studies about the filling efficiency of an ultrasonic process. The effect of the ultrasonic vibration is an important process condition, which influences the flow characteristics of polymer melt. This new condition even affects well-known injection conditions such as cavity pressure, injection temperature and mold temperature. For this study, we carried out a numerical analysis by appropriate modeling and analysis of the ultrasonic process in the filling process. To verify this numerical analysis, we compared the numerical results with the experimental data. Also, we analyzed the filling process in a thin cavity using this numerical analysis. To understand the flow characteristics of polymer melt in the ultrasonic process, we substituted real and complex vibration conditions with simplified and classified conditions according to the position of vibrating cavity surfaces and the phase difference between two opposing cavity surfaces. We also introduced MFR (melt flow ratio) as a new index to estimate the filling efficiency in the ultrasonic process.

  • It is well known that the majority of the emissions measured from vehicle exhaust in the US Federal Test Procedure(FTP-75) are emitted during the first 60 seconds. This paper describes an experimental study on SI engine emissions reduction after cold start with interval secondary air injection and coolant control. Secondary air injection after cold start to reduce exhaust emissions causes an exothermic reaction at the exhaust port and gives sufficient air to the catalyst. For that reason engine-out emissions oxidized in the exhaust port and the rapid heating of a catalytic converter after cold start with CSAI and ISAI are estimated. The influence of the coolant temperature on SI engine emissions has been estimated. In the present studycoolant control of the cylinder head tempeature is used to investigate the effect of coolant temperature on SI engine emissions. The results show that engine-out hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide emissions are considerably reduced with interval secondary air injection and coolant control.

  • Design of the cooling channels of a plastic injection mold affects the quality and the productivity of the injection processes. In the injection process, the melted resin with high temperature enters the mold cavity, and just after the cavity is filled the heat should be dissipated through the cooling channels simultaneously. The purpose of this study is to analyse the heat transfer phenomenon and to estimate the temperature distribution in the mold to evaluate the cooling effect of the channels. The injection mold is assumed to have cooling channels of circular cross section and each channel has the same coolant flow rate. and The cavity has a rectangular shape. The results show that as the cooling channels get closer to the cavity surface, the cooling efficiency increases as might easily be guessed. However, due to the final hot resin flow from the gate an intensive cooling is required in that region.

  • The characteristics of fuel spray have an important effect on engine performance such as power, specific fuel consumption and emission because fuel spray controls the mixing and combustion process in an engine. Therefore, if the characteristics of fuel spray can be measured, they can be effectively used for improving engine performance. The major factors controlling fuel spray are injection pressure, ambient pressure and engine speed. In this study, the experiment is performed in a high temperature and high pressure chamber. In experiments, spray tip penetration, spray angle and spray tip velocity are measured at various injection pressure (10 and 14 MPa), ambient pressure(3,4 and 5 MPa), fuel pump speed(500, 700 and 900 rpm). Experimental results are useful for deriving an experimental spray equation and design an optimal engine. The results showed that injection pressure, ambient pressure and fuel pump speed are important factors influencing on the characteristics of spray. 1) Injection pressure influences on the characteristics of spray. That is, as injection pressure is increased, spray angle is decreased but spray penetration and spray tip velocity is increased. 2) Spray angle and spray penetration are increased as fuel pump speed is increased.

  • Deformation frequently occurring in injection molded products is a phenomenon displayed due to uneven shrinkage distribution and orientation of the whole molded product. Shrinkage deformation is a very serious problem because it causes deformation of the molded article and shortens the performance of the product. In this paper, we are focusing on the warpage of keypad in mobile phone. In other words, we focused on minimizing keypad deformation. In the study, the Taguchi method was applied to find the injection molding conditions that minimize the deformation of the keypad. In the case of this keypad, the main factors influencing the shrinkage deformation were predicted as the melting temperature, coolant temperature and cooling time. In addition, the optimum molding conditions were obtained and the shrinkage strain was minimized. Experiments for the Taguchi method and verification of optimal molding conditions were performed using an injection molding analysis program.

An Experimental Study on Diesel Spray Dynamics and Auto-Ignition Characteristics to use Rapid Comperssion Machine (RCM을 이용한 디젤 분무 거동 및 자발화 특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The low-emission and high-performance diesel combustion is an important issue in the combustion research community, In order to understand the detailed diesel flame involving the complex physical processes, it is quite desirable to diesel spray dynamics, auto-ignition and spray flame propagation. Dynamics of fuel spray is a crucial element for air-fuel mixture formation, flame stabilization and pollutant formation, In the present study, the diesel RCM (Rapid Compression Machine) and the Electric Control injection system have been designed and developed to investigate the effects of injection pressure, injection timing, and intake air temperature on spray dynamics and diesel combustion processes, In terms of the macroscopic spray combustion characteristics, it is observed that the fuel jet atomization and the droplet breakup processes become much faster by increasing the injection pressure and the spray angle, With increasing the cylinder pressure, there is a tendency that the of spray pattern in the downstream region tends to be spherical due to the increase of air density and the corresponding drag force, Effects of intake temperature and injection pressure on auto-ignition is experimently analysed and discussed in detail.
