  • The objective of this study is to provide a simple methodology to find optimum processing conditions to fabricate sub-micron structured DVD-RAM substrates with superb optical and geometrical properties. It was fecund that the birefringence, which is regarded as one of the most important optical properties for an optical disk, was very sensitive to the mold wall temperature history. Also, the integrity of the replication, represented by the land-groove structure and the radial tilt were influenced by the mold temperature and the compression pressure. A set of optimum conditions were obtained by applying Design of Experiment and the objective functions composed of three different objectives.

  • The importance of fast and accurate body temperature measurement with a portable thermometer is increasing. In order to reduce the temperature measurement response time of the infrared ear thermometer, it is very important to develop a structure for a thermometer having an efficient heat transfer path. Most of the existing ear thermometers are single structures that do not consider thermal efficiency, which may delay measurement time and reduce measurement accuracy. Therefore, in this study, the upper part of the thermometer in contact with the ear is made of a thermally conductive material, and the lower part of the thermometer is made of a thermal barrier material so that heat can be concentrated on the infrared sensor of the thermometer by blocking the upper part of the heat. For the efficiency of production, it was intended to be manufactured through the double injection process, and for this purpose, in this paper, the optimal process parameters were derived through the double injection process analysis.

A study on the construction of the quality prediction model by artificial neural intelligence through integrated learning of CAE-based data and experimental data in the injection molding process (사출성형공정에서 CAE 기반 품질 데이터와 실험 데이터의 통합 학습을 통한 인공지능 품질 예측 모델 구축에 대한 연구)

  • In this study, an artificial neural network model was constructed to convert CAE analysis data into similar experimental data. In the analysis and experiment, the injection molding data for 50 conditions were acquired through the design of experiment and random selection method. The injection molding conditions and the weight, height, and diameter of the product derived from CAE results were used as the input parameters for learning of the convert model. Also the product qualities of experimental results were used as the output parameters for learning of the convert model. The accuracy of the convert model showed RMSE values of 0.06g, 0.03mm, and 0.03mm in weight, height, and diameter, respectively. As the next step, additional randomly selected conditions were created and CAE analysis was performed. Then, the additional CAE analysis data were converted to similar experimental data through the conversion model. An artificial neural network model was constructed to predict the quality of injection molded product by using converted similar experimental data and injection molding experiment data. The injection molding conditions were used as input parameters for learning of the predicted model and weight, height, and diameter of the product were used as output parameters for learning. As a result of evaluating the performance of the prediction model, the predicted weight, height, and diameter showed RMSE values of 0.11g, 0.03mm, and 0.05mm and in terms of quality criteria of the target product, all of them showed accurate results satisfying the criteria range.

  • LGP (light guide plate) of LCD-BLU (Liquid Crystal Display - Back Light Unit) is one of the major components which affects the product quality of LCD. In the present study, the optical patterns of LGP(2.2") are manufactured by three different methods, namely, laser ablation, chemical etching and LiGA - reflow, respectively. The pattern surface images and roughness of mold and product were compared to check the optical characteristics. From the results of measurement the optical patterns fabricated by LiGA - reflow method showed the best geometric structure as intended in design and the lowest roughness among those.

  • When manufacturing die casting mold, generally, the casting layout design should be considered based on the relation among injection system, casting condition, gate system, and cooling system. Also, the extent or the location of product defects was differentiated according to the various relations of the above conditions. In this research, in order to optimize casting design of an automobile part (Gear Box) Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) was performed by using the simulation software (Z Cast). The simulation results were analyzed and compared with experimental results. During the mold filling, internal porosities caused by air entrap were predicted and reduced remarkably by the modification of the gate system and the configuration of overflow. With the solidification analysis, internal porosities caused by the solidification shrinkage were predicted and reduced by the modification of the gate system. For making a better production die casting tool, cooling systems on several thick areas are proposed in order to reduce internal porosities caused by the solidification shrinkage.

  • Design process model represents how a design project proceeds. It encompasses the individual activities of design, their precedence relationships, and the relevant information related to each activity. In contrast to the conventional visual representation methods, ontology-based process model is machine-readable, and therefore it can be implemented in a software system without repeating the whole steps of coding, compiling and link. This paper proposes a framework for design process ontology that defines the relevant objects and attributes in the design process as well as the relationships between them. An example for injection mold design process is shown to explain the substance of the design process model.

  • A study was conducted to improve validity in new BOM structure through using the similitude of existing BOM in the PDM. The system is developed in Web-Based PDM environments using servlets and database. The system provides the correlation information between parts to inflect the reusability of existing BOM. User-defined correlation is used to inform the relations between design precedence and co-relations of parameters. Realistic application in injection mold production is constructed using this structure.

  • 본 논문은 사출금형설계 관련 지식과 경험을 전산정보화 하고 유동해석프로그램과 기계적 성능예측 프로그램을 결합시켜 전문가시스템을 구축하였다. 전문가시스템은 주어진 설계에 대해 유동해석프로그램을 구동시켜 열기계적 데이터베이스를 얻고, 필요에 따라 기계적 성능예측 프로그램을 수행시켜 설계의 최종적인 진단을 수행하게 된다. 이러한 과정으로 설계에 대한 평가를 수행하며, 만일 설계가 잘못된 것으로 판정이 되면 그에 해당하는 대안을 제시토록 하여 합리적인 설계가 가능하도록 하였다.

  • Take-out robots used for handling of the plastic parts manufactured with the injection mold are usually the gantry type that consists of long and thin links, The performance of the take-out robot is determined by the speed of the motion and the positioning accuracy to grab the part out of the mold, As the speed of the robot increases the flexure in the links of the take-out robot becomes more significant and it results in more residual vibration, The residual vibration deteriorates the positioning accuracy and compels the operator to slow down the motion of the robot. The typical method to reduce the vibration in the robot requires stiffening the links and/or slowing down the robot, Vibration control could achieve the desired performance without increasing the manufacturing cost or the operation cost that would be incurred otherwise, Considering the point-to-point nature of the task to be performed by the take-out robot the time-delay command (or input) shaping filter approach would be the most effective control method to be adopted among a few available control schemes. In this paper a direct adaptive command shaping filter (ACSF) algorithm has been modified and applied to design the optimal command shaping filters for various configuration of the take-out robot. Optimal filters designed by ACSF algorithm have been implemented on a take-out robot and the effectiveness of the designed filters in terms of vibration suppression has been verified for multiple positions of the robot.
