종자 혼입율과 입도를 달리한 고추가루의 저장 중 색과 매운맛 성분의 변화 (Changes of Colors and Pungent Principles of Red Pepper Powder with Different Seed Contents and Particle Sizes During Storage)

  • Red pepper powders with variuos seed contents (0%, 10%, 20%) and particle sizes were stored at 0$^{\circ}C$, 20$^{\circ}C$, and 30$^{\circ}C$ for 90 days, and the changes in their characteristics were monitored. The initial moisture content was about 13%, and the powders were packed in 0.1 mm-thick polypropylene (PP) bags. Moisture content of each power remained constantly, so PP bags appeared to be effective to prevent moisture transmission. All the values of L*, a* and b* were higher in fine particles than in coarse particles. Storage at 0$^{\circ}C$ did not change any color values, however, overall color values devreased apparently when stored at 30$^{\circ}C$ for 90 days. Capsanthin contents decreased gradually at all storage temperatures and more rapidly at higher temperature. The contents of capsaicinoids in fine particles (49∼59 mg%) were twic as much as those in coarse particles (15∼36 mg%), and they did not change throughout the storage.

Comparison of Seed Viability Among 42 Species Stored in a Genebank

  • This study was conducted to compare seed viability among 42 species after ten years of storage in the midterm storage complex ($4^{\circ}C$, 30-40% RH) at the National Agrobiodiversity Center (NAC) Korean genebank maintained by the Rural Development Administration (RDA), Republic of Korea and to suggest the relative seed longevity and suitable monitoring intervals. The germination data from initial tests and after ten years of storage were compared to measure changes in viability during storage. The decline in seed viability varied greatly among seeds from -11.5% for Triticum sp. to 80% for melon. Coriander, crowndaisy, safflower, cosmos, Chinesebellflower, waxgourd, melon, castorbean, Welch-onion, hollyhock, wild barley, and tallfescue showed significant decreases in viability of 34.2%, 73.4%, 36.5%, 30.0%, 40.2%, 71.3%, 80.0%, 65.9%, 45.5%, 51.4%, 53.0%, and 33.5%, respectively. Gardenpea, soybean, perilla, onion, wild rice, Italian-ryegrass, and pepper showed a 15-30% decline in viability, while the viability of morningglory, adzukibean, maize, and Capsicum sp. decreased by 15% to 5%. Chicory, radish, Chinese-cabbage, bottlegourd, watermelon, cucumber, pumpkin, Cucurbita sp., groundnut, kidneybean, clubwheat, sesame, wheat, Triticum sp., rice, barley, orchardgrass, buckwheat, and wild tomato showed changes in viability of <5%. The changes in storage viability also varied within families. The wild types of rice and barley showed rapid viability loss and presented different aspects from cultivars. Since seed viability of species, classified as index 1 or 2, showed germination losses >15% after ten years of storage, a viability test should be conducted with five year intervals, while species with germination loss of <15% (in index 3 or 4) can be retested at ten year intervals.

Effect of Pre-sowing Treatments on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth of Canarium resiniferum, A Rare Native Tree of Bangladesh

  • Dhup (Canarium resiniferum) is an economically and aesthetically important rare native tree species of Bangladesh. In natural condition 78.5-98.7% seeds do not germinate due to inhibition by hard seed coat, seed predation and unfavorable environmental conditions. A study was conducted in the Seed Research Laboratory and nursery of Institute of Forestry and Environmental Sciences, Chittagong University, Bangladesh in 2013 to find out appropriate pre-sowing treatments for maximizing germination and initial seedling growth. Eleven pre-sowing treatments were provided in both the seeds sown in polybags and seeds sown in propagator house. Results revealed that, germination started at first (after 20 days of seed sown) in seeds immersed in water at room temperature for 24 hours and germination completed within 38 days. Significantly higher (p<0.05) germination percentage (33%), germination energy (16.7%), plant percent (33%) and germination value (0.4) was found with seeds immersed in water at room temperature for 24 hours. Seedling height measured at three, four and five months after the seed germination in case of seeds treated by immersion in water for 24 hours was also greater than others. Therefore, pre-sowing treatment by immersion in water at room temperature for 24 hours was more effective in germination and production of quality vigor seedlings of Dhup.

생태복원용 식물매트 개발에 관한 기초연구 (A Basic Study on the Development of the Plant-Mat for Ecological Restoration)

  • This study was conducted to develop the plant-mat for ecological restoration which was formed as the thin multi-layers of woven nets, soil media, seeds, etc. The experimental site was selected at a slope of 240$m^2$ at the rear of Design College of Sangmyung University and divided into 8 sub-experimental plots (20$m^2$ each) according to mat types. (forest-type and grass-type mats with and without seed attachment, respectively) Also, the existing vegetation plot and the no-treatment plot were included in this experiment for comparison. The experiment construction was conducted on September 3, 2002. Mat covered plots regardless of seed attachment showed nearly no signs of erosion even if rainy season in summer compared to the no-treatment plot. Vegetation monitoring result showed that germination rates were somewhat high in both forest and grass-type mats without seed attachment in the initial germination stage. Although germination rates of seed attached mats were somewhat slower than non-seed attached mats in the germination stage, but over time, it showed a good rooting and shooting environment for germinated tree and grass species because of soil media existence within the mat. This indicates that while non seed-attached mats require follow-up maintenance, seed-attached mats does not require maintenance after rooting and germination.

Effects of Salt Treatment on Seed Germination and Plant Growth of Korean Native Apocynum lancifolium Russanov

  • This research was carried out to investigate seed germination and growth of the perennial plant Apocynum lancifolium under different NaCl concentrations, with a view for future cultivation on reclaimed land. Initial characterization revealed that the average length and weight of A. lancifolium seed pods was 133.6 mm and 0.23 g, respectively, and the thousand-grain weight was 0.59 g. Upon examining the effects of light on seed germination, we found germination to be 1.7% higher under light conditions (90%) than under dark conditions (88.3%). In terms of the response to salt stress, we found that 90% of seeds germinated in the 0.00%, 0.25%, and 0.50% salt treatment groups. Although salt treatment up to a concentration of 0.5% was found to have little effect on seed germination, the rate of germination decreased at higher concentrations and was completely inhibited in the 2% treatment. We also established that germination rates were higher in seeds sown in horticultural topsoil than in the coarse sandy soil found in the plant's natural habitats. Although the growth of A. lancifolium tends to decrease with an increase in salt concentration, we found that the stem thickness, fresh weight, and dry weight of A. lancifolium seedlings subjected to 0.25%-1.0% salt were comparable to those of the control seedling that were not exposed to salt. Furthermore, in contrast to those plants subjected to 2.0% salt, these plants continued to grow and remained viable.

Studies on Milk Allantoin and Uric Acid in Relation to Feeding Regimens and Production Performance in Buffaloes

  • Allantoin and uric acid were estimated in milk to study the association between the levels of these purine derivatives and milk production per day under given feeding regimens. Keeping the stage of lactation, parity and initial milk yield in view thirty lactating buffaloes were randomly selected from early lactating group. All the animals were fed 30 kg green, 2 kg straw and 5 kg concentrate mixture on per animal/day basis at basal level up to 8 1 produce. 1 kg concentrate mixture, soaked cotton seed and boiled cotton seed was fed for every 2 I milk, respectively in Group I (control), Group II and Group III animals. Average milk Allantoin and Uric acid levels were $120{\pm}11.7g/ml$ and $4.03{\pm}0.63g/ml$, respectively in milk. Cotton seed feeding enhanced the milk production significantly (p<0.01) in comparison to concentrate mixture fed control group animals. A significant difference (p<0.01) in milk allantoin levels was found over the different feeding management at higher level of production group animals. Study also revealed a significant negative correlation between the milk allantoin and production per day r=-0.43 (p<0.05).

  • 대규모 데이터에 대한 특성에 따라 몇 개의 클러스터로 군집화하는 클러스터링 기법은 계층적 클러스터링이나 분할 클러스터링 등 다양한 기법이 있는데 그 중에서 K-Means 알고리즘은 구현이 쉬우나 할당-재계산에 소요되는 시간이 증가하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 초기 클러스터 중심들 간의 거리가 최대가 되도록 하여 초기 클러스터 중심들이 고르게 분포되도록 함으로써 할당-재계산 횟수를 줄이고 전체 클러스터링 시간을 감소시키고자 한다.

현지외 보존을 위한 죽절초 종자의 건조 내성과 저장성 평가 (Desiccation Tolerance and Storage Behavior of Sarcandra glabra Seeds for Use in ex-situ Conservation)

  • 본 연구는 죽절초의 현지외 보존 전략 수립을 위해 종자의 건조 내성과 저장성에 관한 정보를 얻고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 죽절초 종자의 기본적인 발아 특성을 조사하고, 종자 함수율을 수준별로 조절하여 발아 특성 및 종자 침출수를 분석하였으며, 저장성 평가를 위해 저장 기간별 발아 특성을 조사하였다. 죽절초 종자의 탈종 직후 함수율은 32.8%였으며, 채취 직후의 종자는 함수율 4.8% 수준에서도 발아율 81.0%로 종자 활력과 종자세를 유지하였으나, 함수율 2.3%, 2.2%에서는 발아율이 각각 55.0%, 30.0%로 감소하였다. 반면, 저장된 종자는 함수율 18.6%에서 발아율이 93.3%로 높은 활력과 종자세를 유지하였으나, 함수율 5% 미만에서는 발아율이 20%이하로 활력과 종자세가 크게 감소하였다. 또한, 수준별로 건조한 종자의 침출수를 분석한 결과, 건조에 의해 발아 활력이 저하된 종자는 침출수의 전기전도도가 높게 나타났고, 침출수 내 K, Ca와 같은 무기질의 농도도 증가하였다. 결론적으로, 죽절초 종자는 난저장성 종자와 중간저장성 종자 사이의 건조 내성을 가지나, 노화 정도에 따라 건조 내성에 차이가 있고, 저장 수명이 짧은 단명종자로 판단된다.

유방 초음파 볼륨영상에서의 율왜곡 기반 종양영역 분할 (Rate-Distortion Based Segmentation of Tumor Region in an Breast Ultrasound Volume Image)

  • 본 논문에서는 유방 초음파 볼륨영상에서 진단하고자 하는 종양 영역을 율왜곡 기반(rate-distortion based) 시드영역 확장 법으로 분할하는 알고리듬을 제안한다. 제안된 분할법에서는 율은 윤곽의 거친 정도를 나타내고 왜곡은 영역의 동질성 정도를 나타내는데, 흉부 종양 볼륨으로부터 획득한 2차원 단면 영상에서 설정된 초기 시드영역에서 시작하여 이러한 율과 왜곡을 동시에 최소화하는 주위영역 중 하나씩 시드영역으로 병합한다. 이러한 병합은 시드영역의 윤곽 화소당 평균 율왜곡 비용이 최대가 될 때까지 반복적으로 수행한다. 이렇게 함으로써 최종 시드영역은 동질성이 잘 유지되고 부드러운 윤곽을 갖게 된다. 마지막으로 모든 단면 영상에 있는 최종 시드영역의 윤곽들을 이용하여 3차원 흉부 종양을 추출한다. 실험 결과, 제안한 방법이 초음파 데이터에 대하여 평균 에러율이 약 4% 미만으로 나타났다.

Mass Propagation of Plug Seedling using Stem Cutting and Their Tuber Yield in Potato

  • For the mass production of plug seedlings in cultivar ‘Dejima’ potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) the optimal apical cutting diameter for rooting and rapid multiplication of stem cuttings in hydroponics were determined. In addition, the best planting date was predicted to increase tuber yield of plug seedlings at fall cropping in Cheju-Do, Korea. Days to initial rooting decreased as the cutting diameter was reduced. Plant height, leaf number, root length and root weight per plant were favorable as the cutting diameter was small. The ideal cutting diameter was 1-2 mm in this experiment. In the hydroponic cultures, the Japanese standard (JS) nutrient solution was the most effective for multiplication of stem cuttings. It was able to propagate more than 20 times a month from a single mother plant. Viability of plants, which were derived from plug seedlings using stem cuttings, was excellent when transplanted to the field. The number of tubers and tuber yield in both of the plug seedlings and seed potato planting plots were high when planted on 25 August. The number and yield were reduced when planted on 15 August, 5 September and 15 September. The degree of decrease of tuber yield in the plug seedling planting plot however, was lower than that of seed potatoes when the planting date was late. In the case of small tubers (under 30 g), the number of tubers and tuber yield were evidently increased in the seed potato tuber planting plot; the yield of large tuber (over 80g) in the plug seedling planting plot was higher than that of the seed potato. The total tuber yield per plant in the plug seedling planting plot was less than that of the seed potato; therefore, in order to increase tuber yield it was necessary to increase field plant density.
