  • The goal of this paper is to develop a system which provides infotainment services for the healthy life of the elderly. First, we define the infotainment services for the elderly, and then determine the infotainment contents and categories related to the infotainment service. In order to provide the infotainment service, we define several modules as follow: user representation, contents generation, contents personalization, provision and learning manager. Finally we develop a pilot system which is based on the proposed framework.

차량용 MOST 네트워크를 위한 POSIX 기반의 Network Service 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of MOST Network Service over POSIX)

  • The automotive industry tries to provide infotainment systems to emerging automobiles. Since the infotainment systems require various peripheral devices and network connectivity, legacy operating systems such as Linux and Windows can be much preferred due to its plentiful device drivers and multimedia applications while the operating systems following OSEK standard are used for automotive electronic control units. Thus it is highly desired that the system software supporting infotainment applications can be portable over different legacy operating systems providing unified programming interfaces. The majority of legacy operating systems support POSIX interfaces for application development. MOST is an automotive network standard for infotainment systems. Network Service defines the protocol stacks for MOST control data, which is essential to implement infotainment applications over MOST. In this paper, we suggest a POSIX-based Network Service so that we can utilize legacy device drivers and applications for automotive infotainment systems. We measure the performance of the POSIX-based Network Service and show that its overhead is not significant.

Multimodal Interface Based on Novel HMI UI/UX for In-Vehicle Infotainment System

  • We propose a novel HMI UI/UX for an in-vehicle infotainment system. Our proposed HMI UI comprises multimodal interfaces that allow a driver to safely and intuitively manipulate an infotainment system while driving. Our analysis of a touchscreen interface-based HMI UI/UX reveals that a driver's use of such an interface while driving can cause the driver to be seriously distracted. Our proposed HMI UI/UX is a novel manipulation mechanism for a vehicle infotainment service. It consists of several interfaces that incorporate a variety of modalities, such as speech recognition, a manipulating device, and hand gesture recognition. In addition, we provide an HMI UI framework designed to be manipulated using a simple method based on four directions and one selection motion. Extensive quantitative and qualitative in-vehicle experiments demonstrate that the proposed HMI UI/UX is an efficient mechanism through which to manipulate an infotainment system while driving.

VNDN 환경하에서 인포테인먼트 응용 이슈 (Issues on Infotainment Application in Vehicular NDN)

  • 최근 VANET에 Named Data Networking (NDN)을 코어 네트워크 기술로 접목시키기 위한 VNDN 기술 연구가 많이 이루어지고 있다. VNDN은 컨텐트 이름을 사용하여 다양한 인포테인먼트 응용 컨텐트 데이터를 이름 기반 포워딩을 통해 전달할 수 있다. VNDN을 커넥티드 차량의 인포테인먼트 응용을 위한 통신 기술로 활용할 시 데이터가 통신의 주체가 되는 데이터 중심 네트워킹 기술 실현이 가능하며, 차량 보안 공격 및 해킹, 장거리 데이터 전송 시 성능저하, 잦은 데이터 끊김 현상 등 현재의 호스트 중심 인터넷에 기반한 커넥티드 차량의 인포테인먼트 응용 서비스 기술이 갖는 한계를 극복할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 VNDN 기술이 제공하는 주요 기능에 대해 살펴보고, VNDN 환경하에서 커넥티드 차량들에게 인포테인먼트 응용 서비스를 실현하기 위해 필요한 이슈들에 대해 체계적으로 분석 정리하여 제시한다. 이를 토대로 VNDN 환경하에서 인포테인먼트 응용 요구사항을 정립하는데 필요한 기초 정보로 활용 되어질 수 있을 것이다.

Infotainment Services Based on Push-Mode Dissemination in an Integrated VANET and 3G Architecture

  • Given the bandwidth assignment for dedicated short range communications for use in vehicular ad-hoc network (VANET) and the expected introduction of equipment in the next few years, we elaborate on how VANET can support infotainment services. We define an architectural model for the integration of VANETs and cellular networks, according to a push mode paradigm where VANETs are used primarily to disseminate service announcements and general interest messages. Cooperation with cellular network is addressed by comparing architecture alternatives. A set of information dissemination protocols for VANETs is compared via simulations on a real urban map. Some results from a lab testbed based on IEEE 802.11p boards are presented along with an application developed for Android operating system to demonstrate the concept of the paper.

차량용 인포테인먼트 시스템의 주요 속성에 대한 이용자 선호 분석 (Analyzing consumer preferences by major attributes of in-vehicle infotainment systems)

  • 자율주행 환경이 도래함에 따라 자동차는 미디어를 향유할 수 있는 공간으로 진화하고 있다. 차량 내 인포테인먼트(IVI) 시스템의 성장은 운전자와 동승자에게 다양한 혜택과 가치를 제공할 수 있다. 이를 위한 사업자들의 기술 개발 및 관련 연구가 이루어지고 있지만, 이용자가 실제로 원하는 IVI 시스템이 어떤 모습인지에 대한 연구는 부족했다. 이에 본 연구는 IVI의 주요 속성별 이용자 선호를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 인포테인먼트 서비스를 이용한 경험이 있는 운전자를 대상으로 컨조인트 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과 응답자들은 IVI의 여러 속성 중 제공사업자, 시스템 구동 형태, 중심 서비스, 중점 콘텐츠의 순서로 중요하게 생각하는 것으로 나타났으며, 통신사 주도형, 탈부착이 가능한 형태, 정보 중심의 서비스와 기존에 소비하던 콘텐츠 위주로 제공되는 인포테인먼트 시스템을 가장 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 IVI 개발에 있어 사업자들이 참고할 수 있는 실무적 시사점, 특히 융합 관점에서의 시사점을 제공하며, 향후 전문가 조사에 기반한 연구가 이루어지면 의미 있으리라 기대한다.

The Design, Implementation, Demonstration of the Architecture, Service Framework, and Applications for a Connected Car

  • While the conventional vehicle's Head-Units played relatively simple roles (e.g., control of heating ventilation and air conditioning, the radio reception), they have been evolving into vehicle-driver interface with the advent of the concept of Connected Car on top of a rapid development of ICT technology. The Head-Unit is now successfully extended as an IVI (In Vehicle Infotainment) that can operate various functions on multimedia, navigation, information with regards to vehicle's parts (e.g. air pressure, oil gauge, etc.). In this paper, we propose a platform architecture for IVI devices required to achieve the goal as a connected car. Connected car platform (CoCaP) consists of vehicle selective gateway (VSG) for receiving and controlling data from major components of a vehicle, application framework including native and web APIs required to request VSG functionality from outside, and service framework for driver assistance. CoCaP is implemented using Tizen IVI and Android on hardware platforms manufactured for IVI such as Nexcom's VTC1010 and Freescale's i.MX6q/dl, respectively. For more practical verification, CoCaP platform was applied to an real-world finished vehicle. And it was confirmed the vehicle's main components could be controlled using various devices. In addition, by deriving several services for driver assistance and developing them based on CoCaP, this platform is expected to be available in various ways in connected car and ITS environments.

차량 인포테인먼트 아키텍처 분석 기반 향후 협력 지능형 교통 체계와 SDV 연동 방향성에 대한 고찰 (Consideration of Technical Direction of Software Defined Vehicle Integration with C-ITS based on the analysis of In-Vehicle Infotainments)

  • 기존 긴급 및 외부 통신이 주목적이었던 차량 인포테인먼트의 지능화와 고속화는 내비게이션, 자율주행 등 다양한 서비스 적용에 대한 가능성을 보여주고 있다. 특히 통신 및 네트워크의 진보로 인하여 외부 기기 및 인프라 연동에 대한 기능성이 강화되고 있는 바 이러한 경향하에 고도화된 차량 서비스 및 주행을 위한 협력 지능형 교통 체계 (C-ITS)와의 연동 방향에 대한 고민이 필요하다. 또한 자동차도 텔레매틱스 및 인포테인먼트 고도화를 넘어 전동화 경향에 맞춘 소프트웨어 정의 차량 (SDV) 라는 개념을 토대로 한 미래 차량 개발 개념을 정립하고 있는 바 이러한 SDV 연계에 대한 고려도 동시에 병행해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 차량 인포테인먼트 구조 분석을 토대로 한 향후 ITS와 SDV 연계 방향성에 대해서 고찰한다. 우선 이를 위해서 현존하는 차량 인포테인먼트 구조 및 아키텍처 분석을 진행하며 이와 연계된 SDV에 대한 구조도 같이 제시한다. 이를 토대로 하여 표준 기반의 C-ITS 서비스와 SDV 기기 적용 및 연동 가능성에 대한 고려사항을 도출한다.

Cooperation-Aware VANET Clouds: Providing Secure Cloud Services to Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks

  • Over the last couple of years, traditional VANET (Vehicular Ad Hoc NETwork) evolved into VANET-based clouds. From the VANET standpoint, applications became richer by virtue of the boom in automotive telematics and infotainment technologies. Nevertheless, the research community and industries are concerned about the under-utilization of rich computation, communication, and storage resources in middle and high-end vehicles. This phenomenon became the driving force for the birth of VANET-based clouds. In this paper, we envision a novel application layer of VANET-based clouds based on the cooperation of the moving cars on the road, called CaaS (Cooperation as a Service). CaaS is divided into TIaaS (Traffic Information as a Service), WaaS (Warning as a Service), and IfaaS (Infotainment as a Service). Note, however, that this work focuses only on TIaaS and WaaS. TIaaS provides vehicular nodes, more precisely subscribers, with the fine-grained traffic information constructed by CDM (Cloud Decision Module) as a result of the cooperation of the vehicles on the roads in the form of mobility vectors. On the other hand, WaaS provides subscribers with potential warning messages in case of hazard situations on the road. Communication between the cloud infrastructure and the vehicles is done through GTs (Gateway Terminals), whereas GTs are physically realized through RSUs (Road-Side Units) and vehicles with 4G Internet access. These GTs forward the coarse-grained cooperation from vehicles to cloud and fine-grained traffic information and warnings from cloud to vehicles (subscribers) in a secure, privacy-aware fashion. In our proposed scheme, privacy is conditionally preserved wherein the location and the identity of the cooperators are preserved by leveraging the modified location-based encryption and, in case of any dispute, the node is subject to revocation. To the best of our knowledge, our proposed scheme is the first effort to offshore the extended traffic view construction function and warning messages dissemination function to the cloud.

상황인지 기반 최적화가 가능한 개인화된 모바일 웹서비스 구축을 위한 다중에이전트 접근법에 관한 연구 (A Multi-Agent Approach to Context-Aware Optimization for Personalized Mobile Web Service)

  • Recently the usage of mobile devices which enable the accessibility to Internet has been dramatically increased. Most of the mobile services, however, so far tend to be simple such as infotainment service. In order to fully taking advantage of wireless network and corresponding technology, personalized web service based on user's context could be needed. Meanwhile, optimization techniques have been vitally incorporated for optimizing the development and administration of electronic commerce. However, applying context-aware optimization mechanism to personalized mobile services is still very few. Hence, the purpose of this paper is to propose a methodology to incorporate optimization techniques into personalization services. Multi agent-based web service approach is considered to realize the methodology. To show the feasibility of the methodology proposed in this paper, a prototype system, CAMA-myOPt(Context-Aware Multi-Agent system for my Optimization), was implemented and adopted in mobile comparative shopping.
