  • Problem-based learning (PBL) is applied to various subjects for the sake of learners' creative thinking, problem-solving skills, presentation skills, confidence, self-directed learning, cooperation, and for the communication skills required in a rapidly changing society. Among them, the English language-an official language-is invested in 2.3 times more than other subjects, according to the English education company Yoon's Teacher. Therefore, PBL is an important learning method. However, the reality is that teacher-centered instruction, acquiring knowledge of the best answers only, and traditional evaluations are the main subjects. In order to supplement these weak points, this study designed a learning model for English subjects based on Barrows & Myers (2002) and the analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate (ADDIE) model. As a result of a PBL English class based on the ADDIE model, the learners were able to improve their presentation skills by 86%, their interest in learning by 86%, their understanding of learning by 86%, and cooperation by 100%. As such, studies on designing the learning model should be carried out continuously to achieve the purpose of 21st century English education, which is to improve learners' communication skills and information processing skills.

  • Purpose - Prior research has suggested that consumers typically prefer to have a larger number of options. However, preference of assortment size may depend on how depleted resources in consumers' mind are. Reduced capacity for self-regulation by resource depletion makes people rely on more intuitive and less effortful decision processing. When they are mentally depleted, people are likely to focus on the choice difficulty from large assortment, which leads to preference for the small assortment when they make a decision. It could be an important question potentially how being in a depleted mode through effortful self-regulation will influence on the evaluation of assortment size. To answer this questioner, we hypothesized that being engaged in self-regulation, as compared with not being engaged in self-regulation, will influence on the evaluation of product assortment size such as attractiveness, difficulty of choice, and anticipated regret. Research design, data, and methodology - In this study, we first manipulated self-regulatory resource availability using a self-regulation task (i.e., instructing participants to solve Sudoku puzzle vs. to solve diagram cube by filling any diagrams that they prefer into cube instead of number) and asked to indicate the difficulty of the tasks available to them ("How much difficulty did you feel when you complete the task?") Next, participants were asked to imagine that they were planning to buy a laptop at one of the two stores (small assortment: 6 options vs. large assortment: 30 options), both offering good quality of products. After reading the product descriptions, participants were instructed to consider all the information and choose a store that they would like to shop. Finally we measured the choice difficulty, evaluation of product assortments, and anticipated regret on a 7-point scale. We conducted two-way ANOVA in testing the main hypothesis that depleted consumers will show poorer subsequent self-control than non-depleted consumers when they make a decision in large assortment. Results - Compared with non-depleted participants, depleted participants showed the bigger difference from the degree of choice difficulty and product attractiveness between large and small assortments, but the result revealed only a significant interaction effect of resource depletion and assortment size on choice difficulty. Also depleted participants showed the smaller difference from the degree of anticipated regret between large and small assortments than non-depleted participants. Conclusion - Depleted individuals by a prior task are relatively effortless and intuitive form of choosing products so that they try to avoid making effortful trade-offs among choice difficulty such as large assortment, compare with non-depleted individuals. However, for anticipated regret, non-depleted individuals in small assortment anticipate more regret by excluding or at least restricting the possibility of buying attractive items or another kind of potential items than depleted individuals, regardless less choice difficulty in small option. To sum up, it is important to note that individuals are influenced by self-regulatory resources and their self-regulatory conditions contribute to the overall positive or negative impact of product assortment on choice.

  • Dam reservoirs play a particularly crucial role in processing the allochthonous and the autochthonous dissolved (DOC) and the particulate (POC) organic carbon and in the budget of global carbon cycle. However, the complex physical and biogeochemical processes make it difficult to capture the temporal and spatial dynamics of the DOC and the POC in reservoirs. The purpose of this study was to simulate the dynamics of the DOC and the POC in Daecheong Reservoir using the 3-D hydrodynamics and water quality model (AEM3D), and to quantify the mass balance through the source and sink fluxes analysis. The AEM3D model was calibrated using field data collected in 2017 and showed reasonable performance in the water temperature and the water quality simulations. The results showed that the allochthonous and autochthonous proportions of the annual total organic carbon (TOC) loads in the reservoir were 55.5% and 44.5%, respectively. In season, the allochthonous loading was the highest (72.7%) in summer, while in autumn, the autochthonous loading was the majority (77.1%) because of the basal metabolism of the phytoplankton. The amount of the DOC discharged to downstream of the dam was similar to the allochthonous load into the reservoir. However, the POC was removed by approximately 96.6% in the reservoir mainly by the sedimentation. The POC sedimentation flux was 36.21 g-C/㎡/yr. In terms of space, the contribution rate of the autochthonous organic carbon loading was high in order of the riverine zone, the transitional zone, and the lacustrine zone. The results of the study provide important information on the TOC management in the watersheds with extensive stagnant water, such as dam reservoirs and weir pools.

  • IoT(Internet of Things) can enable networking and computing using any devices is rapidly proliferated. In the existing IoT environment, bottlenecks and service delays can occur because it processes data and provides services to users using central processing based on Cloud. For this reason, Edge Computing processes data directly in IoT nodes and networks to provide the services to the users has attracted attention. Also, numerous researchers have been attracted to intelligent service efficiently based on Edge Computing. In this paper, expert system-based context awareness scheme for Edge Computing in IoT environment is proposed. The proposed scheme can provide customized services to the users using context awareness and process data in real-time using the expert system based on efficient cooperations of resource limited IoT nodes. The context awareness services can be modified by the users according to the usage purpose. The three service modes in the security system based on smart home are used to test the proposed scheme and the stability of the proposed scheme is proven by a comparison of the resource consumptions of the servers between the proposed scheme and the PC-based expert system.

  • CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) is one representative deep learning algorithm, which can extract high-level spatial and spectral features, and has been applied for hyperspectral image classification. However, one significant drawback behind the application of CNNs in hyperspectral images is the high dimensionality of the data, which increases the training time and processing complexity. To address this problem, several CNN based hyperspectral image classification studies have exploited PCA (Principal Component Analysis) for dimensionality reduction. One limitation to this is that the spectral information of the original image can be lost through PCA. Although it is clear that the use of PCA affects the accuracy and the CNN training time, the impact of PCA for CNN based hyperspectral image classification has been understudied. The purpose of this study is to analyze the quantitative effect of PCA in CNN for hyperspectral image classification. The hyperspectral images were first transformed through PCA and applied into the CNN model by varying the size of the reduced dimensionality. In addition, 2D-CNN and 3D-CNN frameworks were applied to analyze the sensitivity of the PCA with respect to the convolution kernel in the model. Experimental results were evaluated based on classification accuracy, learning time, variance ratio, and training process. The size of the reduced dimensionality was the most efficient when the explained variance ratio recorded 99.7%~99.8%. Since the 3D kernel had higher classification accuracy in the original-CNN than the PCA-CNN in comparison to the 2D-CNN, the results revealed that the dimensionality reduction was relatively less effective in 3D kernel.

  • The article herein suggested a compound repository and a descriptive method to develop a compound knowledge process. A data target saved in a compound knowledge repository suggested in this article includes all compound knowledge meta data and digital resources, which can be divided into the three following factors according to the purpose: user roles, functional elements, and service ranges. The three factors are basic components to describe abstract models of repository. In this article, meta data of compound knowledge are defined by being classified into the two factors. A component stands for the property about a main agent, activity unit or resource that use and create knowledge, and a context presents the context in which knowledge object are included. An agent of the compound knowledge process performs classification, registration, and pattern information management of composite knowledge, and serves as data flow and processing between compound knowledge repository and user. The agent of the compound knowledge process consists of the following functions: warning to inform data search and extraction, data collection and output for data exchange in an distributed environment, storage and registration for data, request and transmission to call for physical material wanted after search of meta data. In this article, the construction of a compound knowledge repository for recommendation system to be developed can serve a role to enhance learning productivity through real-time visualization of timely knowledge by presenting well-put various contents to users in the field of industry to occur work and learning at the same time.

  • Due to the limitation of data modeling power and the view update ambiguity, relational view is limitedly used for engineering applications. On the contrary, object-oriented database view would playa vital role in defining custom interface for engineering applications because the above two limitations of the relational view are overcome by the object-oriented view. Above all, engineering application data interface should fully support updates. More specifically, updates against the data interface needs to be unambiguously defined and its semantic behavior should be equal to base schema updates'. For this purpose, we define the notion of update semantic preserving which means that view updates displays the same semantics as base schema. Besides, in order to show the feasibility of this characteristics, specific and concrete algorithms for update preserving updates are presented for a CAD specialized object-oriented database view - MultiView. This paper finds that in order that virtual classes coudld form a schema with 'isa' relationships rather than just a group of classes, the update semantics on the virtual classes should be defined such that the implied meaning of 'isa' relationships between classes are not to be violated. Besides, as its sufficiency conditions, we derived the update semantics and schema constituable conditions of the virtual classes that make view schemas look like base schemas. To my best knowledge, this is the first research that presents the sufficiency conditions by which we could defined object-oriented views as integrated schemas rather than as separate classes.

  • WEB or Internet has given mankind an unprecedented experience in indefinite sharing of online content by original means of digitalized information, but it comes to face an empirical issue of unreasonable informational superfluity as well as a practical issue of collapsed dot.com bubble economy in 2001. Instead, a latest networking concept called 'WEB 2.0' or 'Semantic WEB' becomes embodied as a new approach to entities such as end users and content. The concept of WEB 2.0 for creating a platform on the basis of openness and collaboration has made such a technological setting that we can effectively resolve and manage unreasonable data maintenance and interface inherent in Creative Group Thinking System (CGTS), a WEB-based computer-aided idea generation system developed in 2003. Concerning decreased usability and difficulties with data maintenance due to certain issues of CGTS as a part of WEB R&D platform, such as complex display composition and inefficient data processing system, this study seeks to simplify and streamline data structure by means of AJAX and DOM as WEB2.0-based technologies, and integrate interface structure of WEB platform to focus on end users, so that it can improve interface of conventional CGTS for the purpose of realizing end user's participation through improving usability.
