  • Web provides a rich learning environment for learners mainly due to the hypertext technology and the high interactivity. It provides a learner-centered learning environment. In this environment, students are to develop their own paths in non-sequential and flexible ways according to their needs and their demands. However, in many cases students who use this environment are easily exposed to difficulties in their choices of learning paths, disorientation, and cognitive overload in the cyberspace. Consequently, they have trouble in maintaining their motivation and interest in their learning. This study presents the design and the use of 3D-based space navigation system in order to maintain student's interest in educational web contents.

Design and Performance Analysis of FSC Receiver for Improvement of D2D Communication in Cellular Network (셀룰러 네트워크에서 D2D 통신 향상을 위한 FSC 수신기 설계 및 성능 분석)

  • Cellular Network assisted device-to-device (D2D) communication has been growing to reduce the overload of eNodeB and mitigate the frequency shortage. However, by sharing the uplink frequency resource with the cellular network, the interference between cellular and D2D is increased. In this paper, we propose an advanced receiver for full suppression cancellation (FSC) to reduce the interference between cellular and D2D. The proposed receiver can suppress and cancel the interference by integrating the interference rejection combining (IRC) technique with successive interference cancellation (SIC). We perform a system level simulation based on the 20-MHz bandwidth of the 3GPP LTE-A system. Simulation results show that the proposed receiver can improve SINR, throughput and spectral efficiency compared to conventional receivers.

  • Fast rendering speed is one of key functions to provide realistic scenes in flight simulator. However, since flight simulator mostly operates with high volume terrain data, rendering speed is reduced and changed very rapidly when it handles file containing too much vertexs. So, previous schemes make use of Level of Details (LOD) scheme to prevent this problem. But, since LOD is applied after the large number of vertexs are detected, transition between scenes is not completely smooth. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a new dynamic LOD scheme which controls LOD level in advance through prediction of vertex overload. To verify the proposed scheme, we implement the proposed scheme in our flight simulation through OpenSceneGraph(OSG) and identify the reduced number of vertexs and enhanced Frame Per Second (FPS) by comparing real data with predicted one.

  • Network traffic demand is increasing explosively because of various smart equipment and services on smart era. It causes of traffic overload for wireless and wired network. Network management system is very important to control the explosion of data traffic. It uses SNMP to communicate with various network resources for management functions and creates lots of management traffic. Those are can be serious traffic congestion on a network. I propose an improving function of SNMP to minimize unnecessary traffics between manager and agent for collecting the Trend Analysis Information which is mainly used to monitor and accumulate for a specific time period in this paper. The results of test show it has compatibility with the existing SNMP and greatly decreases the amount of network traffic and response time.

  • IPTV contents are based on MPEG2-TS(Moving Picture Expert Group-2 Transport Stream). The Created content is delivered to each home's Set-Top box through the Internet service network, which will be visible on television through the decoding process. The using and spending of content expanding were quite limited in the other existing lines' devices. For this end, provided methods are to convert MPEG2-TS to other format and then transmit it. These methods are causing not only an overload to the system but also its increasing the hardware resource requirements. In this paper, the MPEG2-TS of IPTV's content using RTP(Real time Transport Protocol) provided by the applicable variety of devices and environmental system, was designed and implemented. Through this paper, the existing MPEG2-TS is providing other devices for distribution and consumption that can give better content to the consumers which means that the QoS(Quality of Service) was enhanced. And, the increased consumption and use of content will help the IPTV business to get more development and activation.

  • With fast deployment of high-speed networks and various online services, the demand for massive content distribution is also growing fast. An approach that is increasingly visible in communication research community and in industry domain is peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. The P2P swarming technique enables a content distribution system to achieve higher throughput, avoid server or network overload, and be more resilient to failure and traffic fluctuation. Moreover, as a P2P-based architecture pushed the computing and bandwidth cost toward the network edge, it allows scalability to support a large number of subscribers on a global scale, while imposing little demand for equipment on the content providers. However, the P2P swarming burdens message exchange overheads on the system. In this paper, we propose a new protocol which provides confidentiality, authentication, integrity, and access control to P2P swarming. We implemented a prototype of our protocol on Android smart phone platform. We believe our approach can be straightforwardly adapted to existing commercial P2P content distribution systems with modest modifications to current implementations.

  • In this paper, We assume that the closed computer system model composed of multiprocessor system is analyzed by BCMP queueing network theory with priority levels. In this system that contains terminals, processors and I/O devices, We show maximum throughput and the number of active terminals in the optimum multiprogramming levels. It is compared the performance with the other. In the result, it is obtained the optimum number of processors and active terminals. Therefore, the system model consisted of the optimum number of processor and multiprogramming level m is analyzed by the servers with a priority level. Each server is applied to the type of server which is characterized terminal, processor I/O device etc.. This model is analyzed by the server with a probability ditribution. Ideal state is proposed by the modeling for priority levels. Finally, we try to increase the performance in overload system.

A Push-Caching and a Transmission Scheme of Continuous Media for NOD Service on the Internet (인테넷상에서 NOD 서비스를 위한 연속미디어 전송 및 푸쉬-캐싱 기법)

  • In multimedia new service on the internet, there are problems such as server overload, network congestion and initial latency. To overcome these problems, we propose a proxy push-caching scheme that stores a portion of continuous media stream or entire stream, and a transmission scheme of NOD continuous media, RTP-RR and RTP-nR to exploit push-caching scheme. With the proposed push-caching scheme, NOD server pushes fixed portion of stream to a proxy when new data is generated, and the cached size of each stream changes dynamically according to the caching utility value of each stream. As a result, the initial latency of client side could be reduced and the amount of data transmitted fro ma proxy server to client could be increased. Moreover, we estimate a caching utility value of each stream using correlation between disk space occupied by the stream and the amount of data stream requested by client. And we applied the caching utility value ot replacement policies. The performance of the proxy push-caching and continuous media transmission schemes proposed were compared with other schemes using simulations. In the simulation, these schemes show better results than other schemes in terms of BHR (Byte Hit Rate), initial latency, the number of replacement and packet loss rate.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation details of a distributed transactional workflow monitoring system. There have been prevalent research and development trends in the workflow literature - workflow systems tend to be completely distributed architectures to support very large-scale workflow applications on object-oriented and internet-based infrastructures. That is, the active (object), distributed (architecture), system-oriented (transaction), and large-scale (application) workflow systems are the key targets in terms of the research and development aspects. While the passive, centralized, human-oriented, and small/medium scale workflow systems are the typical instances of the traditional workflow systems. Unlike in the traditional (the client-server architecture) workflow systems, the workflow monitoring features should not be easily supported in the recent (the fully distributed architecture) workflow systems. At the same time, they need a set of additional monitoring features, such as gathering and displaying statistical (or overload status) information of the workflow architectural components dispersed on the internet. We, in this paper, introduce the additional workflow monitoring features that are necessarily required for the recent workflow systems, and show how to embed those features into a web-based distributed workflow system.

  • As volumes of electronic commerce increase rapidly, customers are faced with information overload, and it becomes difficult for them to find necessary information and select what they need. In this situation, recommender systems can help the customers search and select the products and services they need more conveniently. These days, the recommender systems play important roles in customer relationship management. In this research, we develop a recommender system that recommends the books to the customers of Internet bookstore. In previous researches on recommender systems, collaborative filtering technique has been often employed. For the collaborative filtering technique to be used, the rating scores on books given by previous purchasers have to be collected. However, the collection of rating scores is not an easy task in reality. Therefore, in this research, we employed case-based reasoning technique that can work only with the book purchase history of customers. The accuracy of recommendation of the resulting book recommender system was about 40% on the level 3 classification code.
