  • With increasing needs for affective design, it became an essential part in a product development process to look up quantitative ergonomic data that reflects customers' preferences on design factors in various products. This study looked at wide LCD monitors and analyzed customers' affective preferences regarding monitor's bezel frame size and shape. The monitor's bezel frame depth, size and ratio were selected as independent variables among many design parameters. As dependent variables, customer's subjective preferences were measured. A statistical analysis revealed that monitor's bezel frame depth, size and ratio had significant effects on customer's preferences. Also, it was possible to find a different tendency on affective variables and their levels for 19" and 24" wide LCD monitors. In general, experiments revealed that customers reacted more sensitively in 24" wide LCD monitors to all variables. In 19" wide LCD monitors, only the lower frame bezel size had a significant effect, otherwise, lower, upper and side frame bezels appeared to be effective variables in 24" monitors. In order to reflect customer's affective preferences to new design of wide LCD monitors, this study is expected to provide quantitative ergonomic data and guidelines for the design of wide LCD monitor's bezel frame depth and size.

  • Human being recognizes emotion fusing information of the other speech signal, expression, gesture and bio-signal. Computer needs technologies that being recognized as human do using combined information. In this paper, we recognized five emotions (normal, happiness, anger, surprise, sadness) through speech signal and facial image, and we propose to method that fusing into emotion for emotion recognition result is applying to multimodal method. Speech signal and facial image does emotion recognition using Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method. And multimodal is fusing into emotion result applying fuzzy membership function. With our experiments, our average emotion recognition rate was 63% by using speech signals, and was 53.4% by using facial images. That is, we know that speech signal offers a better emotion recognition rate than the facial image. We proposed decision fusion method using S-type membership function to heighten the emotion recognition rate. Result of emotion recognition through proposed method, average recognized rate is 70.4%. We could know that decision fusion method offers a better emotion recognition rate than the facial image or speech signal.

  • Data Warehousing and OLAP (On-Line Analytical Processing) have turned into the key technology for comprehensive data analysis. Originally developed for the needs of decision support in business, data warehouses have proven to be an adequate solution for a variety of non-business applications and domains, such as government, research, and medicine. Analytical power of the OLAP technology comes from its underlying multidimensional data model, which allows users to see data from different perspectives. However, this model displays a number of deficiencies when applied to non-conventional scenarios and analysis tasks. This paper presents an attempt to systematically summarize various extensions of the original multidimensional data model that have been proposed by researchers and practitioners in the recent years. Presented concepts are arranged into a formal classification consisting of fact types, factual and fact-dimensional relationships, and dimension types, supplied with explanatory examples from real-world usage scenarios. Both the static elements of the model, such as types of fact and dimension hierarchy schemes, and dynamic features, such as support for advanced operators and derived elements. We also propose a semantically rich graphical notation called X-DFM that extends the popular Dimensional Fact Model by refining and modifying the set of constructs as to make it coherent with the formal model. An evaluation of our framework against a set of common modeling requirements summarizes the contribution.

  • This paper presents an idea and framework to automate a full cycle business process management and re-engineering by integrating traditional business process management systems, process mining, data mining, machine learning, and simulation. We build our framework on the cloud-based platform such that various data sources can be incorporated. We design our systems to be extensible so that not only beneficial for practitioners of BPM, but also for researchers. Our framework can be used as a test bed for researchers without the complication of system integration. The automation of redesigning phase and selecting a baseline process model for deployment are the two main contributions of this study. In the redesigning phase, we deal with both the analysis of the existing process model and what-if analysis on how to improve the process at the same time, Additionally, improving a business process can be applied in a case by case basis that needs a lot of trial and error and huge data. In selecting the baseline process model, we need to compare many probable routes of business execution and calculate the most efficient one in respect to production cost and execution time. We also discuss the challenges and limitation of the framework, including the systems adoptability, technical difficulties and human factors.

  • The case study looks into the case of the "extreme" market segmentation strategy of company L with its top luxury windows and door brand "Lonchel". Company L has long enjoyed a leading position in the Korean windows and doors mass market. However, it went against their already well-established flagship brand and created a completely new one called "Lonchel", pursuing an extreme market segmentation strategy focusing on the small niche market of highest-income customers exclusively. The strategy has turned out to be successful and the company has gained long-lasting competitive advantages. In this vein this study analyzes the market environment in which the top-tier brand "Lonchel" appeared, the concept of the extreme positioning and the smallest viable market, the characteristics of target customers, the company's analysis of and response to them, and the analysis of products to meet their needs. The brand operation plan and promotion will be also reviewed. Through this, we intend to draw implications related to the extreme positioning strategy that a company may pursue in a target market of small groups of people.
