  • The purpose of this study was to investigate clinical characteristics and the attribution of children having play therapy by developmental, behavioral, and emotional disorders. Subjects of this study were 118 3- to 9-year-old children randomly selected from children who were receiving or who already finished play therapy at one of the child and family counseling centers in Cheong-Ju City. Results showed that children with developmental disorders had lower levels of relationship during play, and their relationships were more disorganized or separated than children with emotional or with behavioral disorders. This study has significance by providing psychological information on play characteristics of children by type of disorder.

  • Based on the popular 4-transistor SRAM cell, an analytical expression of the minimum cell ratio was derived by modeling the static read operation. By analyzing the relatively simple expression for the minimum cell ratio, which was derived assuming the ideal transistor characteristics, effects of the changes in supply voltage and process parameters on the minimum cell ratio was predicted, and the minimum power supply voltage for read operation was determined. The results were verified by simulations utilizing the suggested simulation method, which is suitable for monitoring the lower limit of supply voltage for proper cell operation. From the analysis, it was shown that the worst condition for cell operation is low temperature and low supply voltage, and that the operation margin can be effectively improved by reducing the threshold voltage of the cell transistors.

  • This paper proposes an analytic method that can estimate delay time considering crosstalk noise at an arbitrary node of RC-class interconnects under saturated ramp input using a simple closed-form expression. In the case of single interconnects, algebraic expression presented in existent research can estimate delay time under ramp input using delay time under step input, and we applied it to estimate delay time considering crosstalk noise. As the result, we can provide a intuitive analysis about signal integrity of circuits that include crosstalk noise reducing computational complexity significantly.

  • Studies on cellular pathways and networks are now one of the most actively researched topics in all fields of biomedicine ranging from developmental biology to etiology. Many databases have been developed and quantitative simulation models have been proposed. One of the eventual goals of pathway/network studies is to integrate different types of pathway/network models and databases to simulate overall cellular responses. A bottleneck to this goal is modeling gene expression since the mechanism of this process is not yet fully unveiled. We are developing a small scale computer program called CiRMU (Cis-Regulatory Machinery Unit model) for describing, viewing, analyzing, and modeling the process of gene expression. A prototype system is being designed and implemented for analyzing functions of nuclear receptors.

  • This paper investigates the active damping of grid-connected LCL filter resonance using high-pass filter (HPF) of the grid current. An expression for such HPF is derived in terms of the filter components. This expression facilitates a general study of the actively damped filter behavior in the discrete time domain. Limits for the HPF parameters are derived to avoid the excitation of unstable open loop poles since such excitation can reduce both the damping performance and the system robustness. Based on this study, straightforward co-design steps for the active damping loop along with the fundamental current regulator are proposed. A numerical example along with simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the theoretical analyses.

  • The CYP1A gene is one of Cytochrome P450 drug-metabolizing enzymes with dose-dependant manner of gene expression and is useful to get the information of alterations on gene expression upon environmental contaminants as well as the biomarker of environmental contamination at the specific places. In this report, we further discuss the usefulness of CYP1A gene in relation to aquatic environmental contamination at several aspects.

  • The diversity of RNA functions ranges from storage and propagation of genetic information to enzymatic activity during RNA processing and protein synthesis. This diversity of functions requires an equally diverse arrays of structures, and, very often, the formation of functional RNA-protein complexes. Recognition of specific RNA signals by RNA-binding proteins is central to all aspects of post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. We will describe how NMR is being used to understand at the atomic level how these important biological processes occur.

  • 4-Aminobutyrate aminotransferase plays an essential role in the 4-aminobutyric acid shunt, converting 4-aminobutyrate to succinic semi aldehyde. We isolated and sequenced' a fish cDNA fragment that encodes 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase. A brain cDNA library from flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) was constructed using the ZAP- III XR vector and screened for the fish 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase gene using a probe derived from the conserved sequences of known mammalian 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferases. A partial cDNA for 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase was cloned and found to be 700 bp in length corresponding to 66 amino acids. Nucleotide sequence of the clone was aligned with NCBI (National Center for Biotechnology Information) DNA sequence data base. The result showed high sequence identity with previously reported mammalian 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferases. The transcriptional level of flounder 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase was detected with the presence of mRNA at different flounder tissues by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The expression of flounder 4-aminobutyrate aminotransferase was also tested and detected from the flounder tissues of the brain, liver, kidney and pancreas.
