Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate any association between a single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in the patatin-like phospholipase domain containing 3 (PNPLA3) (rs738409, C>G) and the development and prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and Methods: Two hundred heathy controls and 388 HCC cases were included: 211 with HBV, 98 patients with HCV, 29 with alcoholic steatohepatitis (ASH) and 52 with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The SNP was determined by real-time PCR based on TaqMan assays. Results: The prevalence of rs738409 genotypes CC, CG and GG in controls was 91 (45.5%), 88 (44.0%), and 21 (10.5%), respectively, while the corresponding genotypes in all patients with HCC was 158 (40.7%), 178 (45.9%), and 52 (13.4%). The GG genotype had significantly higher distribution in patients with ASH/NASH-related HCC compared with controls (OR=2.34, 95% CI=1.16-4.71, P=0.018), and viral-related HCC cases (OR=2.15, 95% CI=1.13-4.08, P=0.020). However, the frequency of the GG genotype was similar between controls and patients with viral-related HCC. At initial diagnosis, HBV-related HCC were larger and at more advanced BCLC stage than the other HCC groups. There were no significant differences between the GG and non-GG groups regarding clinical characteristics, tumor stage and overall survival. Conclusions: These data suggest an influence of the PNPLA3 polymorphism on the occurrence of HCC in patients with ASH/NASH but not among those with chronic viral hepatitis. However, the polymorphism was not associated with the prognosis of HCC.
This thesis is about the result of conducting a specific experiment for the development of noncontact vibration displacement sensor for measuring the spindle vibration that is used for conditional monitoring of machinery. One should be careful when using the eddy current type displacement sensor because the sensitivity of it is different according to the quality of the material. While the probe used for nondestructive inspection adopts the effect of transmitting the material by using the high frequency domain, the eddy current type displacement sensor uses the lower frequency of around 1MHz. Also, while the nondestructive probe uses the method of enhancing output by using the resonance zone, the vibration displacement sensor utilizes the stable zone by avoiding the resonance zone. Since the oscillator of the converter uses the "L" element as Probe, its characteristic changes with the variation of a relevant impedance. In other words, if the length of Probe's Cable gets extended (Impedance increase), the sensitivity declines accordingly. The effect of surrounding temperature was small, but the influence of the quality of Sensor Coil used was high. Moreover, following an experimental demonstration of the phenomenon where the sensitivity decreases as the frequency of the tested material increases from a frequency response test, the maximum frequency that could be measured was approximately 1KHz. It was noted that the degree of precision could be maintained by using the gap of the probe in the linear zone at the installation site.

In railway tunnel environment, the reliability of a high-data-rate and real-time train-to-wayside communication should be maintained especially when high-speed train moves along the track. In China and Europe, the communication frequency around 900 MHz is widely used for railway applications. At this carrier frequency band, both of the solutions based on continuously laid leaky coaxial cable (LCX) and discretely installed base-station antennas (BSAs), are applied in tunnel radio coverage. Many available works have concentrated on the radio-wave propagation in tunnels by different kinds of prediction models. Most of them solve this problem as natural propagation in a relatively large hollow waveguide, by neglecting the transmitting/receiving (Tx/Rx) components. However, within such confined areas like railway tunnels especially loaded with train, the complex communication environment becomes an important factor that would affect the quality of the signal transmission. This paper will apply a full-wave numerical method to this case, for considering the BSA or LCX, train antennas and their interacted environments, such as the locomotive body, overhead line for power supply, locomotive pantograph, steel rails, ballastless track, tunnel walls, etc.. Involving finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method and uni-axial anisotropic perfectly matched layer (UPML) technique, the entire wireless RF downlinks of BSA and LCX to tunnel space to train antenna are precisely modeled (so-called integrative modeling technique, IMT). When exciting the BSA and LCX separately, the field distributions of some cross-sections in a rectangular tunnel are presented. It can be found that the influence of the locomotive body and other tunnel environments is very significant. The field coverage on the locomotive roof plane where the train antennas mounted, seems more homogenous when the side-laying position of the BSA or LCX is much higher. Also, much smoother field coverage solution is achieved by choosing LCX for its characteristic of more homogenous electromagnetic wave radiation.

An analytical closed-form solution for wave propagation velocity and damping in saturated porous media is presented in this paper The fully coupled field model with compressible solid Brains and pore water were used to derive this solution. An engineering approach for the analysis of fully saturated porous media was adopted and closed-form solutions for one dimensional wave propagation in a homogeneous domain were derived. The solution is highly versatile in that it considers compression of the solid grains, compression of the pore water, deformation of the porous skeleton, and spatial damping and can be used to compute wavespeeds of first and second kind and damping coefficients in various geologic materials. This solution provides a means of analyzing the influence of material property variations on wavespeed and attenuation. In Part 2 of this work the theoretical solution is incorporated into the numerical code and the code is used in a parametric study on wave propagation velocity and damping.

Brake system is indispensible functional part to the transportation machines such as railroad cars, and all of industrial machines. It is mechanical element to stop the movement or slow the speed, transforming kinetic energy of motion object into thermal energy through solid friction. According that recently the railroad cars have become high-speed, the technique in braking domain to secure the overall braking effort is making rapid progress. In particular, material development and manufacturing process are so important to secure friction performance, which is the core in braking performance of mechanical brake units. Wear of brake disk could mainly result in the diminishment of its life span due to thermal cracking, so the endurance against high temperature is required. On the other hand, in this case, the problem is that the side wear of pad, relative material is slightly increased because of enlargement of plastic deformation. It is necessary, therefore, to develop a disk material that will be used in the Tilting System mechanical brake units. The purpose of this paper is to make a study prior to developing brake disk of Tilting Train travelling at 200km/h and to propose the component of brake disk. Accordingly, I will conduct sufficient researches on technical documents of brake disk, that are basic documentations, analyze an impact on components, and further, considering braking degree of train, study for the basic proposal on brake disk's component of the train travelling at 200km/h, which has relatively minor influence of heat stress and maintains the friction. In this respect, I would like to investigate friction characteristics between disk and relative friction material via Test on some possible test segments, analyze and propose friction performance, temperature impact and so forth coming from the contact with pad, relative material to demonstrate the friction characteristics.
It is difficult to control children who exhibit negative behavior in dental clinics. Various methods are used for preventing pediatric dental patients from being afraid and for eliminating the factors that cause psychological anxiety. However, when it is difficult to apply this routine behavioral control technique, sedation therapy is used to provide quality treatment. When the sleep anesthesia treatment is performed at the dentist's clinic, it is challenging to identify emergencies using the current breath detection method. When a dentist treats a patient that is under the influence of an anesthetic, the patient is unconscious and cannot immediately respond, even if the airway is blocked, which can cause unstable breathing or even death in severe cases. During emergencies, respiratory instability is not easily detected with first aid using conventional methods owing to time lag or noise from medical devices. Therefore, abnormal breathing needs to be evaluated in real-time using an intuitive method. In this paper, we propose a method for identifying abnormal breathing in real-time using an intuitive method. Respiration signals were measured using a 3M Littman electronic stethoscope when the patient's posture was supine. The characteristics of the signals were analyzed by applying the signal processing theory to distinguish abnormal breathing from normal breathing. By applying a short-time Fourier transform to the respiratory signals, the frequency range for each patient was found to be different, and the frequency of abnormal breathing was distributed across a broader range than that of normal breathing. From the wavelet transform, time-frequency information could be identified simultaneously, and the change in the amplitude with the time could also be determined. When the difference between the amplitude of normal breathing and abnormal breathing in the time domain was very large, abnormal breathing could be identified.

This research extends a general theory of human cognition to an applied domain of piloting skills. We examined how fast and accurately pilots achieve and maintain situation awareness in flight by measuring their consistency judgment between a written statement describing a flight situation and a cockpit display showing a current state of an aircraft. The goal of this research is to determine whether situation awareness is influenced by expertise level as a Auction of two different kinds of flight situation variables. It was revealed that flight situation variables representing relations between flight elements had an effect on situation awareness. Working memory was found to play a critical role in integrating a variety of flight information form multiple sources. It was also revealed that flight situation variables representing the contents of flight elements had influence on situation awareness in flight. These results were explained in a theoretical framework of a construction-integration model to reveal the cognitive processes underlying situation awareness in flight.

Building structures generally have inherent low damping capability and hence are vulnerable to seismic excitations. Control devices therefore play a useful role in providing safety to building structures subject to seismic events. In recent years semi-active dampers have gained considerable attention as structural control devices in the building construction industry. Magneto-rheological (MR) damper, a type of semi-active damper has proven to be effective in seismic mitigation of building structures. MR dampers contain a controllable MR fluid whose rheological properties vary rapidly with the applied magnetic field. Although some research has been carried out on the use of MR dampers in building structures, optimal design of MR damper and combined use of MR and passive dampers for real scale buildings has hardly been investigated. This paper investigates the use of MR dampers and incorporating MR-passive damper combinations in building structures in order to achieve acceptable levels of seismic performance. In order to do so, it first develops the MR damper model by integrating control algorithms commonly used in MR damper modelling. The developed MR damper is then integrated in to the seismically excited structure as a time domain function. Linear and nonlinear structure models are evaluated in real time scenarios. Analyses are conducted to investigate the influence of location and number of devices on the seismic performance of the building structure. The findings of this paper provide information towards the design and construction of earthquake safe buildings with optimally employed MR dampers and MR-passive damper combinations.

Wall jet flow exists widely in engineering applications, including the simulation of thunderstorm downburst outflows, and has been investigated extensively by both experimental and numerical methods. Most previous studies focused on the scaling laws and self-similarity, while the effect of lip thickness and external stream height on mean velocity has not been examined in detail. The present work is a numerical study, using steady Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations at a Reynolds number of $3.5{\times}10^4$, of a turbulent plane wall jet with an external stream to investigate the influence of the wall jet domain on downstream development of the flow. The comparisons of flow characteristics simulated by the Reynolds stress turbulence model closure (Stress-omega, SWRSM) and experimental results indicate that this model may be considered reasonable for simulating the wall jet. The confined wall jet is further analyzed in a parametric study, with the results compared to the experimental data. The results indicate that the height and the width of the wind tunnel and the lip thickness of the jet nozzle have a great effect on the wall jet development. The top plate of the tunnel does not confine the development of the wall jet within 200b of the nozzle when the height of the tunnel is more than 40b (b is the height of jet nozzle). The features of the centerline flow in the mid plane of the 3D numerical model are close to those of the 2D simulated plane wall jet when the width of the tunnel is more than 20b.

Series system reliability analysis of non-reactive contaminant transport is performed in a two dimensional horizontal domain with two different limit state functions: (1) concentration threshold and (2) exposure time threshold. The transient source transport model is combined with the system reliability model to evaluate the probability that a specified maximum concentration at a node of interest would be exceeded or that a moderate concentration would exceed some exposure limit over a given period of time. The results give probabilities of exceedence greater than probability of each component and they tend to be dominanted by the component with larger probability. Transverse dispersivity turns out to be an important parameter in addition to hydraulic conductivity in a two-dimensional contaminant transport model with transient source. System sensitivity is found to reflect the corresponding sensitivity of both components, with the component with larger probability having a greater influence.
