  • The analysis of characteristics of water use evaluation and nighttime domestic flow evaluation was performed by using result from flow monitoring and surveying water supply records and nighttime domestic flow for a year. The analysis of correlations showed that, for both sites, the infiltration ratio and wastewater flow have shown a good relationship with high correlation factor and that the calculation of wastewater flow was highly affected by monthly rainfall depth as well as number of rain days. From this result, it was concluded that the measurement of infiltration should be performed when the rainfall does not significantly affect the sewer flow. Also, it is notable that each value of calculated using method for infiltration evaluation are not comparable to each other, but independent methods. In selecting of evaluation method for infiltration, therefore, a great emphasis should be imposed to the character of area and the seasonal factor in order to select optimal one. It is desirable way for evaluating infiltration and reduction ratio using result from an optimal method.

  • This study was to estimate the reduction effect of nonpoint source pollutants according to the rainfall intensity and drainage of infiltration grate inlet. Soil infiltration flow was measured on-site and SS load by the filter part was calculated by the experimental data in laboratory reactor test. Soil infiltration flow was measured to be about $1m^3/hr$ in soil condition saturated with water. The filter part of the infiltration grate inlet was a hydraulic equipment unhindered by soil infiltration on the bottom of the storage tank, because the infiltration flow was measured to be about $3m^3/hr$ continuously in the closing infiltration hole condition. Infiltration flow and SS load were over about $1m^3/hr$ and 1.71 kg according to laboratory results by the filter part using the artifical sample. Therefore, the above values could be presented as the limitted value to start the reduction of filtration effect. Reduction efficiencies of SS load by the filter part for the rainfall intensity were about 87 % at 5 mm/hr and about 61 % at 10 mm/hr in consideration of one infiltration grate inlet got the drainage area about $200m^2$. The reduction efficiency of nonpoint source pollutants was very effective in the first flush rainfall. However, the reduction efficiency by rainfall density was higher than by flow.

  • Pearson's correlation was used to determine relations between infiltration and affecting factors using flow monitoring data measured in 24 areas with different characteristics. Factors showed relatively high correlations than others were indexed to determine infiltration rates of the study area. Among 8 factors(service area, sewer length, sewer diameter, multiplier of sewer length and diameter, number of manholes, population, number of properties, number of households) tested, the multiplier of sewer length and diameter, the number of population and the number of household in each service area indicated higher correlation coefficient(>0.8) than others. The goodness of fitness of linear regressions between infiltration and the factors followed the order: sewer length and diameter(0.68)> population(0.65)> number of household(0.60). Infiltration rates calculated by the multiplier of sewer length and diameter, the number of population and the number of household in each service area were 0.046~1.0396 $m^{3}/d{\cdot}mm-km$, 0.0917~1.7355 $m^{3}/capita{\cdot}d$, 0.196~4.529 $m^{3}/household {\cdot}d$ respectively. After sewerage rehabilitation work of the area, the infiltration rates calculated by above factors with high correlations are expected to be used for comparing effectiveness of the work once they are estimated under the same flow measuring conditions.

  • The infiltration of ceramics by liquid metals to fabricate ceramic-metal composites is discussed. In particular, the complexity of infiltrating ceramics by liquid metals at high temperatures due to interfacial reactions, metal oxidation, pore modulation and closure, and transient capillary forces has been highlighted. The role of these factors is discussed in the context of reactive infiltration with examples from ceramic/metal composites of practical interest. In addition to flow through porous ceramics, reactive penetration of dense ceramics via chemical dissolution and reaction is also discussed.

  • It is a research that free floating larva of Ruditapes philippinarum in compliance with infiltration flow of tidal accumulation and bottom-clinging system in high density also, It is a precondition this for the continuous augmentation of Ruditapes philippinarum resources. So in flow field of tidal the free floating larva produced the infiltration water tank that can possibly bottom-clinging and experiment the water tank which uses free floating larva, It evaluates that the acceleration effect of free floating larva by infiltration in objective. As a result, 1) The experiment on free floating larva's bottom sediment grain diameter came to be high recording as bottom-clinging rate at the static water field and even biologically it selects bottom-clinging substrate it will be able to confirm. 2) About occurrence of infiltration flow field is in case of that: the drift of a current 10cm/s, bottom sediment grain 1.21mm infiltration flow 0.3cm/s increase of 3~5 times was confirmed. 3) From free floating larva of Ruditapes philippinarum the choice of bottom sediment grain diameter depends in the biological factor and form the flow field the bottom-clinging acceleration effect was controled over physical stable condition. 4) In case of density of Ruditapes philippinarum free floating larva of sea area, bottom sediment grain diameter, flow condition which are very cleanly in the research that possibly could conjecture the free floating larva's bottom-clinging rate.

  • As the water-cycle is transformed by increasing of the impermeable area in process of urbanization, decentralized rainwater management facilities(infiltration, harvesting and retention facilities) as source control are considered to be a method of restoring water-cycle of urban and reducing runoff. SWMM model was used to analyse the change of water-cycle structure before and after development in A new town watershed. Modified SWMM code was developed to apply infiltration facilities. The modified SWMM was used to analyse the change of water-cycle before and after infiltration trench setup in AJ subcatchment. Changes of the impervious area by development and consequent increase in runoff were analyzed. These analyses were performed by a day rainfall during ten years from 1998 to 2007. According to the results, surface runoff increased from 51.85% to 65.25 %, and total infiltration volume decreased from 34.15 % to 21.08 % in A newtown watershed. If more than 80 infiltration trenches are constructed in AJ subcatchment, the low flow and the drought flow increases by around 47%, 44%, separately. The results of this study, infiltration trench is interpreted to be an effective infiltration facility to restore water-cycle in new town.

  • Return flow rate of irrigation water was estimated by water balance method. Daepyeong pumping district to irrigate 75.8 ha of rice paddy in the Geum river basin was selected to install gauging instruments to collect data such as weather, water levels, infiltration rate and evapotranspiration during irrigation season (May 27 to Sept. 20) in 2003 and 2004. Irrigation and drainage discharge were calculated from the rating curve and evapotranspiration was estimated both by the modified Penman formula and by the lysimeter. The results were as followed : 1. Total amounts of pumping water during irrigation season were $1,076,000\;m^3$ in 2003 and $1,848,000\;m^3$ in 2004. Total amounts of rainfall were 1336.0mm and 1003.0mm respectively during the irrigation season in 2003 and 2004. 2. It was surveyed that the amount of infiltration was 196.5 mm (2.2 mm/day). The gauged evapotranspiration was 311.0 mm (3.5 mm/day) and the calculated evapotranspiration was 346.0 mm (3.9 mm/day) during irrigation period in 2003. It was surveyed that the amount of infiltration was 169.9 mm (2.4 mm/day). The amount of gauged evapotranspiration was 377.3 mm (5.3 mm/day) and the calculated evapotranspiration was 454.5 mm (6.6 mm/day) during irrigation period in 2004. 3. The rates of quick and delayed return flow were 52.4 % and 17.7 % respectively, and so return flow rate was 70.1 % in 2003. The rates of quick and delayed return flow were 45.4 % and 16.1 % respectively, and so return flow rate was 61.5 % in 2004. It means that average return flow rate in the Daepyeong pumping district was assumed to be 65 %.

  • The Green-Ampt equation for infiltration has been intensively investigated by many researchers because of its simplicity and adequacy for fitting experimental data to theoretical one. The infiltration equation derived from the theory of two phase flow coincides with the Green-Ampt equation except the viscouse resistance correction factor. This approach clearly defines variables in the Green-Ampt equation and also encounters the effect of viscosity of two fluids. A new equation for infiltration into multilayered soil is derived from the theory of two phase flow and compared with conventional equation. The new equation shows lower infiltration rate than that of conventional one and it is believed that this caused from the inclusion of viscosity in the derivation.

  • Stability analysis based on the limit equilibrium method combined with the result of infiltration analysis is commonly used to evaluate the effect of rainfall infiltration on the slope stability. Soil is a three-phase mixture composed of solid particle, water and air. Therefore, a fully coupled mixture theories of stress-deformation behavior and the flow of water and air should be used to accurately analyze the process of rainfall infiltration through soil slope. The purpose of this study is to study the effect of interaction of air and water flow on the mechanical stability of slope. In this study, stability analyses based on the coupled hydro-mechanical model of three-phases were conducted for slope of weathered granite soil widespread in Korea. During the process of hydro-mechanical analysis strength reduction technique was applied to evaluate the effect of rainfall infiltration on the slope stability. The results showed an increase of air pressure during infiltration because rain water continuously displaced the air in the unsaturated zone. Such water-air interaction in the pore space of soil affects the stress-deformation behavior of slope. Therefore, the results from the three-phase model showed different behavior from the solid-water model that ignores the transport effect of air in the pores.
