Design-based and model-based Inferences in Survey Sampling (표본조사에서 설계기반추론과 모형기반추론)

  • We investigate both the design-based and model-based inferences, which are usual inferential methods in survey sampling. While the design-based inference is on the basis of randomization principle, The motel-based inference is based on likelihood principle as well as conditionality principle. There have been some disputes between two inferences for a long time and those have not yet been determined. In this paper we reviewed some issues on two inferences and compared their advantages and disadvantages in some viewpoints.

  • The important field of research on ship operation is related to the high efficiency of transportation, the convenience of maneuvering ships and the safety of navigation. As a way of practical application for a smart ship based on network system, this paper proposes the intelligent support system for ship steering control system based on TCP/IP and desires to testify the validity of the proposal by applying the fuzzy control model to the steering control system. As the specific study methods, the fuzzy inference was adopted to build the maneuvering models of steersman, and then the network system was implemented using the TCP/IP socket-based programming. Lastly, the miniature model steering control system combined with LIBL (Linguistic Instruction-based Learning) was designed to testify for its effectiveness.

  • This paper presents a new identification method which utilizes fuzzy inference in parameter identification. The proposed system has an additional control loop where a real plant is replaced by a plant model. The control system to be designed is to satisfy the following specifications: 1) It has zero steady-state error. 2) It has adequate damping characteristics. 3) 1),2) satisfied, it has a shortest rise-time. Fuzzy rules describe the relationship between comparison results of the features and magnitude of modification in the model parameter values. This method is effective in auto-tuning because the response of the closed loop is verified. The proposed method is tested in simulation for several plants with first- order lags and dead-times. The results show that the proposed method is effective in practical use.

Design of a machine learning based mobile application with GPS, mobile sensors, public GIS: real time prediction on personal daily routes

  • Since the global positioning system (GPS) has been included in mobile devices (e.g., for car navigation, in smartphones, and in smart watches), the impact of personal GPS log data on daily life has been unprecedented. For example, such log data have been used to solve public problems, such as mass transit traffic patterns, finding optimum travelers' routes, and determining prospective business zones. However, a real-time analysis technique for GPS log data has been unattainable due to theoretical limitations. We introduced a machine learning model in order to resolve the limitation. In this paper presents a new, three-stage real-time prediction model for a person's daily route activity. In the first stage, a machine learning-based clustering algorithm is adopted for place detection. The training data set was a personal GPS tracking history. In the second stage, prediction of a new person's transient mode is studied. In the third stage, to represent the person's activity on those daily routes, inference rules are applied.

  • The classical HMM is defined by a parameter triple �� = (��, A, B), where each parameter represents a collection of probability distributions: initial state, state transition and output distributions in order. This paper proposes a new stationary parameter e = (e1, e2, …, eN) where N is the number of states and et = P(|xt = i, y) for describing how an input pattern y ends in state xt = i at time t followed by nothing. It is often said that all is well that ends well. We argue here that all should end well. The paper sets the framework for the theory and presents an efficient inference and training algorithms based on dynamic programming and expectation-maximization. The proposed model is applicable to analyzing any sequential data with two or more finite segmental patterns are concatenated, each forming a context to its neighbors. Experiments on online Hangul handwriting characters have proven the effect of the proposed augmentation in terms of highly intuitive segmentation as well as recognition performance and 13.2% error rate reduction.

  • In order to monitior machine tool condition and diagnose alarm states due to electrical and mechanical faults, and expert system using diagnostic parameters of NC machine tools was developed. A model-based knowledge base was constructed via searching and comparing procedures of diagnostic parameters and state parameters of the machine tool. Diagnostic monitoring results generate through a successive type inference engine were graphically displayed on the screen of the console. The validity and reliability of the expert system was rcrified on a vertical machining center equipped with FANUC OMC through a series of experiments.

  • Properties of stochastic regression imputation are discussed under the uniform within-cell response model. Variance estimator is proposed and its asymptotic properties are discussed. A limited simulation is also presented.

  • An algorithm for a hybrid controller consists of a sliding mode control part and a fuzzy logic part which ar purposely for nonlinear systems. The sliding mode part of the solution is based on "eigenvalue/vector"-type controller is used as the backstepping approach for tracking errors. The fuzzy logic part is a Mamdani fuzzy model. This is designed by applying sliding mode control (SMC) method to the dynamic model. The main objective is to keep the update dynamics in a stable region by used SMC. After that the plant behavior is presented to train procedure of adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems (ANFIS). ANFIS architecture is determined and the relevant formulation for the approach is given. Using the error (e) and rate of error (de), occur due to the difference between the desired output value (yd) and the actual output value (y) of the system. A dynamic adaptation law is proposed and proved the particularly chosen form of the adaptation strategy. Subsequently VSC creates a sliding mode in the plant behavior while the parameters of the controller are also in a sliding mode (stable trainer). This study considers the ANFIS structure with first order Sugeno model containing nine rules. Bell shaped membership functions with product inference rule are used at the fuzzification level. Finally the Mamdani fuzzy logic which is depends on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference systems structure designed. At the transferable stage from ANFIS to Mamdani fuzzy model is adjusted for the membership function of the input value (e, de) and the actual output value (y) of the system could be changed to trapezoidal and triangular functions through tuning the parameters of the membership functions and rules base. These help adjust the contributions of both fuzzy control and variable structure control to the entire control value. The application example, control of a mass-damper system is considered. The simulation has been done using MATLAB. Three cases of the controller will be considered: for backstepping sliding-mode controller, for hybrid controller, and for adaptive backstepping sliding-mode controller. A numerical example is simulated to verify the performances of the proposed control strategy, and the simulation results show that the controller designed is more effective than the adaptive backstepping sliding mode controller.

  • Since the damage from the torrential rain increases recently due to climate change and global warming, the significance of flood forecasting and warning becomes important in medium and small streams as well as large river. Through the preprocess and main processes for estimating runoff, diverse errors occur and are accumulated, so that the outcome contains the errors in the existing flood forecasting and warning method. And estimating the parameters needed for runoff models requires a lot of data and the processes contain various uncertainty. In order to overcome the difficulties of the existing flood forecasting and warning system and the uncertainty problem, ANFIS(Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System) technique has been presented in this study. ANFIS, a data driven model using the fuzzy inference theory with neural network, can forecast stream level only by using the precipitation and stream level data in catchment without using a lot of physical data that are necessary in existing physical model. Time series data for precipitation and stream level are used as input, and stream levels for t+1, t+2, and t+3 are forecasted with this model. The applicability and the appropriateness of the model is examined by actual rainfall and stream level data from 2003 to 2005 in the Tancheon catchment area. The results of applying ANFIS to the Tancheon catchment area for the actual data show that the stream level can be simulated without large error.
