Development of Two Types of Radar Vehicle Detectors (두 기능을 갖는 차량검지 레이다)

  • In this paper, two types of radar vehicle detectors compatible with currently being used ILD(Inductive Loop Detector) without any modification has been developed. With these vehicle detectors based on FMCW altimeter and Doppler speedometer techniques at 24 GHz, the length and speed of a vehicle can be detected. For signal processing part, we have used DAQ board and programmed with LabView. For compatibility with traffic information network connected with existing ILD's, traffic information has been sent to VDS by using RS-232C standard interface. This development has improved approximately 10% in accuracy in terms of the speed and length information compared with that of the installed ILD in the test field.

A Study on the Application Impacts on Korean Power System by Introducing SFCL

  • As power systems grow more complex and power demands increase, the fault current tends to gradually increase. In the near future, the fault current will exceed a circuit breaker rating for some substations, which is an especially important issue in the Seoul metropolitan area because of its highly meshed configuration. Currently, the Korean power system is regulated by changing the 154 ㎸ system configuration from a loop connection to a radial system, by splitting the bus where load balance can be achieved, and by upgrading the circuit breaker rating. A development project applying 154 ㎸ Superconducting Fault Current Limiter(SFCL) to 154 ㎸ transmission systems is proceeding with implementation slated for after 2010. In this paper, the resistive and inductive SFCLs are applied to re-duce the fault current in Korean power system and their technical and economic impacts are evaluated. The results show that the application of SFCL can eliminate the need to upgrade the circuit breaker rat-ing and the economic potential of SFCL is evaluated positively.

Stability Analysis of Grid-Connected Inverters with an LCL Filter Considering Grid Impedance

  • Under high grid impedance conditions, it is difficult to guarantee the stability of grid-connected inverters with an LCL filter designed based on ideal grid conditions. In this paper, the theoretical basis for output impedance calculation is introduced. Based on the small-signal model, the d-d channel closed-loop output impedance models adopting the converter-side current control method and the grid-side current control method are derived, respectively. Specifically, this paper shows how to simplify the stability analysis which is usually complemented based on the generalized Nyquist stability criterion (GNC). The stability of each current-controlled grid-connected system is analyzed via the proposed simplified method. Moreover, the influence of the LCL parameters on the stability margin of grid-connected inverter controlled with converter-side current is studied. It is shown that the stability of grid-connected systems is fully determined by the d-d channel output admittance of the grid-connected inverter and the inductive component of the grid impedance. Experimental results validate the proposed theoretical stability analysis.

  • Electrolytic in-process dressing (ELID) grinding is a new technique for achieving a nanoscale surface finish on hard and brittle materials such as optical glass and ceramics. This process applies an electrochemical dressing on the metal-bonded diamond wheels to ensure constant protrusion of sharp cutting grits throughout the grinding cycle. In conventional ELID grinding, a constant source of pulsed DC power is supplied to the ELID cell, but a feedback mechanism is necessary to control the dressing power and obtain better performance. In this study, we propose a new closed-loop wheel dressing technique for grinding wheel truing that addresses the efficient correction of eccentric wheel rotation and the nonuniformity in the grinding wheel profile. The technique relies on an iterative control algorithm for the ELID power supply. An inductive sensor is used to measure the wheel profile based on the gap between the sensor head and wheel edge, and this is used as the feedback signal to control the pulse width of the power supply. We discuss the detailed mathematical design of the control algorithm and provide simulation results that were confirmed experimentally.

  • This paper presents the information transmission between on-board and ground-site in MAGLEV. considering safety and high speed operation and density operation, information transmission between them is necessary. Therefore it is necessary for transmission system to ensure high speed transmission, low error rate, massive information, and reliability of information. To provide above conditions, 1.1km signal line assembly was constructed and Frequency Shift Keying(FSK) modulation and Open System Interconnection(OSI) based high-level data link control(HDLC) protocol are applied. To modulate digital signal for transmission from ground-site to on-board, carrier frequency of 70kHz is used and 90khz is used for transmission from on-board to ground-site. Transmission speed is 2400bps for consideration of train speed, quantity of information, and data error rate. And this paper introduces information monitoring considering user interface and presents the method for an effective data transmission in MAGLEV which is now being tested and intends to provide for an intelligent train operation system in future.

  • In this study, Urban maglev is applied to inductive-loop speed and position detection system for the top-level classification system for the entire system, and performed functional analysis On-board signal equipment, Wayside-signal equipment divided by the reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety through analysis of the proposed formula. RDB and by applying a system service for each device was calculated to availability, safety analysis. The PHA, FMEA, HAZOP over the Top Event of the FTA is performed by presenting the results. This also shows approach methods and relative activities for project to accomplish and ensure the system requirements.

Learning Algorithm using a LVQ and ADALINE (LVQ와 ADALINE을 이용한 학습 알고리듬)

  • We propose a parallel neural network model in which patterns are clustered and patterns in a cluster are studied in a parallel neural network. The learning algorithm used in this paper is based on LVQ algorithm of Kohonen(1990) for clustering and ADALINE(Adaptive Linear Neuron) network of Widrow and Hoff(1990) for parallel learning. The proposed algorithm consists of two parts. First, N patterns to be learned are categorized into C clusters by LVQ clustering algorithm. Second, C patterns that was selected from each cluster of C are learned as input pattern of ADALINE(Adaptive Linear Neuron). Data used in this paper consists of 250 patterns of ASCII characters normalized into $8\times16$ and 1124. The proposed algorithm consists of two parts. First, N patterns to be learned are categorized into C clusters by LVQ clustering algorithm. Second, C patterns that was selected from each cluster of C are learned as input pattern of ADALINE(Adaptive Linear Neuron). Data used in this paper consists 250 patterns of ASCII characters normalized into $8\times16$ and 1124 samples acquired from signals generated from 9 car models that passed Inductive Loop Detector(ILD) at 10 points. In ASCII character experiment, 191(179) out of 250 patterns are recognized with 3%(5%) noise and with 1124 car model data. 807 car models were recognized showing 71.8% recognition ratio. This result is 10.2% improvement over backpropagation algorithm.

Numerical analysis about current non-uniformity in superconducting CICC (cable-in-conduit conductor) joint (초전도 관내연선도체 접합부에서의 전류 불균일에 대한 수치적 분석)

  • This paper presents transport current non-uniformity in a joint for superconducting multistage cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) and relaxation in the CICC. The joint is considered to have a current loop linked to an external magnetic field so that it becomes an emf voltage source. It is numerically analyzed using an electrical transmission line model. The inductive current in a resistive joint is compared to that of a non-resistive joint when the ramping field is applied vertically to the joints. Regarding the parameter values of the model. a full scale $Nb_3Sn$ CICC and a strand-to-strand (STS) joint for the toroidal field magnet of the KSTAR (Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research) device are referenced to. It is found that the resistive joint prevents the current from rising too much and enhances decaying the current when the ramping stops. The 'flattop' current is found to be proportional to the ramp rate of the field (dB/dt). The relaxation length, which is defined as the length within which the maximum induced current falls by 1/e. is found to saturate within 0.27m.

  • Seoul metropolitan government has been operating traffic signal control system with the name of COSMOS since 2001. COSMOS uses the degrees of saturation and congestion which are calculated by installing loop detectors. At present, inductive loop detector is generally used for detecting vehicles but it is inconvenient and costly for maintenance since it is buried on the road. In addition, the estimated queue length might be influenced in case of error occurred in measuring speed, because it only uses the speed of vehicles passing by the detector. A traffic signal control algorithm which enables smooth traffic flow at intersection is proposed. The proposed algorithm assigns vehicles to the group of each lane and calculates traffic volume and congestion degree using traffic information of each group using VANETs(Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks) inter-vehicle communication. It does not demand additional devices installation such as cameras, sensors or image processing units. In this paper, the algorithm we suggest is verified for AJWT(Average Junction Waiting Time) and TQL(Total Queue Length) under single intersection model based on GLD(Green Light District) Simulator. And the result is better than Random control method and Best first control method. In case real-time control method with VANETs is generalized, this research that suggests the technology of traffic control in signalized intersections using wireless communication will be highly useful.

Development of A Multi-sensor Fusion-based Traffic Information Acquisition System with Robust to Environmental Changes using Mono Camera, Radar and Infrared Range Finder (환경변화에 강인한 단안카메라 레이더 적외선거리계 센서 융합 기반 교통정보 수집 시스템 개발)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop a multi-sensor fusion-based traffic information acquisition system with robust to environmental changes. it combines the characteristics of each sensor and is more robust to the environmental changes than the video detector. Moreover, it is not affected by the time of day and night, and has less maintenance cost than the inductive-loop traffic detector. This is accomplished by synthesizing object tracking informations based on a radar, vehicle classification informations based on a video detector and reliable object detections of a infrared range finder. To prove the effectiveness of the proposed system, I conducted experiments for 6 hours over 5 days of the daytime and early evening on the pedestrian - accessible road. According to the experimental results, it has 88.7% classification accuracy and 95.5% vehicle detection rate. If the parameters of this system is optimized to adapt to the experimental environment changes, it is expected that it will contribute to the advancement of ITS.
