The purposes of this study were investigated physical compensation for gait on induced knee stiffness in normal subjects. Ten subjects were participated in the experiment(age: $26.0{\pm}6.3$ yrs, height: $175.5{\pm}5.3$ cm, weight: $69.1{\pm}6.1$ kg). The study method adopted 3D analysis with five cameras and ground reaction force with two force-plate. Induced knee stiffness level were classified as gait pattern on ROM of knee(free level, $30^{\circ}$ restriction level, fix level). The results were as follows; In angular displacement of hip joint, left hip joint was the more extended in mid-stance on induced right knee stiffness. In angular displacement of knee joint, there was no physical compensation on induced right knee stiffness, but free knee level gait was more flexed in swing phase of right knee joint. In angular displacement of ankle joint, right ankle joint was the more dorsiflexed on induced right knee stiffness, and $30^{\circ}$ restriction level and fix level gait were less plantarflexed in TO2. In trunk tilt, free and $30^{\circ}$ restriction level gait was more backward tilt on induced right knee stiffness. In ROM of each joint, right knee joint was more larger and trunk tilt was more lower on induced right knee stiffness. In GRF, Fx was more bigger lateral force in free and $30^{\circ}$ restriction level gait, and was more bigger medial force in fix level gait. Fy was more bigger propulsion force in free level gait, and was was more bigger braking force in $30^{\circ}$ restriction level gait. Left braking force in $30^{\circ}$ restriction level gait was more bigger. Fz was no significant.
Electroconvulsive shock (ECS) increases the activity of acetylchohnesterase and decreases in brain acetylcholine levels. A large amount of free fatty acids accumulated in the brain tissue affects cerebral blood flow, brain edema and inflammation and results in brain injury. The present study examined the effect of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and D,L-pyroglutamic acid (D,L-PCA) on the learning and memory deficit using the passive avoidance failure technique and on the change of acetylcholine and choline level in the cerebral cortex of ECS-induced mice. The application of ECS (25mA, 0.5sec) induced a significant decrease in memory function for 30 min. ECS-induced a significant decrease in cortical acetylcholine and choline levels 1 min following the ECS application, which were almost recovered to ECS control level after 30 min. DHA (20 mg/kg, i.p.). administered 24 hr before shock. prevented the ECS-induced passive avoidance failure and the decrease of acetylcholine level 1 min following the ECS application. DHA failed to elicit a change in cortical choline level. DHA did not affect memory function and the cortical Ach and choline level of normal mice. The administration of D,L-PCA (500 mg/kg, i.p.) increased the effect of DHA on memory function and the change of cortical acetylcholine level of ECS induced mice. These results suggest that DHA treatment may be contributed to the prevention against memory deficit, and to the activation of cholinergic system in the ECS induced mice.
The influences of diazepam and naloxone on the increase of plasma corticosterone level induced by morphine, pentazocine, ACTH, or picrotoxin were investigated in male mice. The results obtained were summarized as follows: 1) The increase induced by morphine or pentazocine of plasma corticosterone level was not affected by naloxone pretreatment but markedly suppressed by diazepam pretreatment. 2) The increase induced by ACTH of plasma corticosterone level was not affected by diazepam or naloxone pretreatment. 3) The picrotoxin markedly increased plasma corticosterone level, and the inceease was not affected by diazepam or naloxone pretreatment. This above results suggest that the increase induced by opioids of plasma corticosterone level seems to be rather related with other than opiate- or GABArerecptor.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of demographical variables(gender and age) and alienation on adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation. The subjects were 389 middle and high school students who lived in Keoungbok. The data were analyzed by t-test, one-way ANOVA and stepwise multiple regression(using SPSS 12.1). Major findings were as follows: 1) There was difference in adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation according to gender, age, and level of alienation. Adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation tended to be higher when adolescent were girl students, or high school students or in higher level of alienation. 2) Alienation was the stronger predictor of adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation than gender and age. 3) There was difference in boy adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation according to age and level of alienation. But there was difference in girl adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation only according to level of alienation. 4) For boy, alienation was the stronger predictor of adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation than age. But for girl alienation was only significant predictor of adolescent's negative emotion-induced eating motivation.
Marc et al. reported that diazepam increased plasma corticosterone level and Dasgupta et al. suggested that chlordiazepoxide(CDP) supressed the adrenal response to ACTH. In this paper, the influence of CDP on the changes of blood sugar and plasma corticosterone level induced by ACTH and picrotoxin were investigated in male mice. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1) The blood sugar and plasma corticosterone level were increased by CDP, ACTH, and picrotoxin, respectively. 2) The hyperglycemia induced by ACTH and picrotoxin were not affected by the CDP pretreatment. 3) The increase of plasma corticosterone level induced by ACTH was inhibited by the CDP pretreatment. 4) The increase of plasma corticosterone level appeared 30 minutes after picrotoxin injection was slightly enhanced, but the level of 120 minutes after picrotoxin injection was significantly inhibited by the CDP pretreatment.
Hypoglycemic efficacy of natural functional mixture(FM) and level of the diabete related hormones in streptozotocin(STZ)-induced diabetic rats were investigated. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups (normal, diabetic fed diets with/without FM). Supplement of FM did not affect the body weight and feed intake of STZ-induced diabetic rats. The increase in the weight of liver of STZ-induced diabetic rats was weakened by supplement of FM, whereas the weight of kidney and heart was not affected. Blood glucose level was slightly, and glucose tolerance of post-feeding was significantly improved by functional mixture. The mixture significantly reduced the elevated HbA1C level of diabetic rats by 15%, and it increased the level of insulin and C-peptide in blood and decreased glucagon level. Therefore, we conclude that FM in this study has a potency of prevention and treatment of diabetes mellitus.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Brousson etiae fructus (BF) on the urethral nitrite level and the urethral nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity in streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic rats. In vitro, the urethral NOS activity was not noted in the level of Dose of extract prepared from BF. In vivo, the urethral NOS activity was increased in normal rats and STZ induced diabetic rats by dose and term of extract prerared from BF. The the NOS activity decreased in STZ induced diabetic rats was increased as highly as norma1 group by the extract of BF The level of urethral nitrite and glutathione was increased too. But the level of urethral lipid peroxide increased in STZ induced diabetic rats was decreased as lowly as normal group by the extract of BF. In conclusion, the extract of BF can restore erectile dysfunction of STZ induced diabetic rats.
This research was conducted to study the effects of the supplementation of multi-extracts of mori folium (MF) and of exercise on plasma insulin and glucose levels in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Eight male Sprague-Dawley rats, 4 weeks old, were assigned to each experimental group and were raised in the laboratory for 10 weeks. The animal groups consisted of a normal-control group, a STZ-control group, 3 STZ-induced diabetic groups supplemented ad libitum with various amounts of MF extracts (MF-720, MF-360, and MF-180 groups), and a STZ-induced diabetic group supplemented with MF-360 along with exercise. In the normal-control group, glucose tolerance tests resulted in the peak blood glucose level being achieved in 15 minutes and a fasting blood glucose level being achieved in 60 minutes. In the STZ-control group, the peak blood glucose level was reached after 60 minutes and, even after 90 minutes, blood glucose shown at a significantly higher level compared to the fasting levels. In the groups supplemented with MF extracts, the blood glucose level peaked after 30 minutes of glucose challenge, and returned to the fasting level after 90 minutes; the MF-360 and MF-360+exercise groups showed the best levels of glucose tolerance. Blood glucose levels in the STZ-induced diabetic groups were significantly higher compared to the normal-control group. However, after 7 weeks of supplementation with MF extracts, a significant lowering of blood glucose levels was observed in all groups supplemented with the MF extract. The best effect was observed in the group given MF extract combined with exercise. Compared to the normal-control group, blood insulin levels were significantly lower in all STZ-induced diabetic groups; however, a significantly higher level of insulin was observed in the groups given MF extracts compared to the STZ-control group. This study shows that the supplementation of MF extracts in STZ-induced diabetic rats resulted in increased blood insulin levels and lower blood glucose levels.
In this paper, we have analyzed the effects from the change of separation distance between grounding equipment at end of telecommunication line and the inducting facilities in power inducting situation. In the result of measurement, we can see that as the separation distance between grounding equipment ant end of telecommunication line and the inducting facility become longer, the induced noise level and PIF level is decreased. From the another experiment results about the effect of changing the impedance size in both ends of telecommunication line, however, we already knew that as the ground impedance at either end of the telecommunication line become grower, the noise level is increased, and as the ground impedance at either end of the telecommunication line become smaller, the noise level is decreased. Hence we can not define the relationship exactly between separation distance from inducting facility to inducted facility and the induced noise level because when the grounding equipment is moved, its impedance size is changed too. In conclusion, changing the separation distance between grounding equipment at end of telecommunication line and the inducting facilities have not influence on the induced noise level.
In a preliminary screening of plant extracts for the antigastritic and antiulcer actions in rats, the methanol extracts of Taheebo showed positive activity in HCI . ethanol-induced gastric lesion. Among the systematic fractions of hexane, chloroform, butanol and water, the most potent $H_2O$ fraction reduced significantly HCI . ethanol-induced gastric lesion at the oral dose of 300 mg/kg. In pylorus ligated rats chloroform and butanol fraction showed decreases in the volume of gastric secretion and acid output of which effects were stronger in chloroform fraction. Further assays with hexane butanol and $H_2O$ fraction disclosed that it significantly suppressed the aspirin-induced ulcer. The butanol fraction reduced significantly acetic acid induced ulcer at the dose of 400 mg/kg. The butanol and $H_2O$ fraction reduced the malondialdehyde level in HCI . ethanol-induced gastric lesion. In pylorus ligated rats, chloroform and butanol fraction reduced the malondialdehyde level and in aspirin-induced ulcer, chloroform fraction reduced that levle. These results might suggest that the butanol and $H_2O$ fraction of Taheebo had inhibitory action in gastric lesion and ulceration through inhibition of gastric acid secretion and the decrease malondialdehyde level.
