Indoor Positioning System for Moving Objects on an Indoor for Blind or Visually Impaired Playing Various Sports

  • We have proposed an indoor positioning system for moving objects and/for the blind or visually impaired to play various sports. [ for a blind or visually impaired playing various sports.] This system consists of a wireless heart rate monitor, wireless sensor network and / 4 ultrasound satellites [ configuration with four ultrasound satellite modules) at the corners of the room. This system provides / the real-time measurement of the location and heart rate of the person in the room[ non-invasive measurement method of the heart rate and the location of a person in real time ], and will help the [a] blind or visually impaired enjoy sports more easily.

  • According to the ubiquitous trend, the needs for the context based application service have been increased. These services take on Location Based Service which is based on the current location of users. It is widely used that localization techniques use GPS or ground wave and more efficient and accurate methods have been studied. Recently, not only services which targeted outdoor but also services which targeted indoor, for example home services and facility guidance of the building come into the spotlight. In case of the outdoor positioning area, COTH (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) has been released and used but relatively it doesn't produce an outcome in the indoor positioning area. Therefore, this paper Proposes the indoor positioning technique using wireless LAN (Local Area Network) which is one of the widely used wireless communication technique. It analyzes the typical WLAN location positioning methodology has been studied and their advantage and disadvantage also suggests how to design and implement the specific WLAN positioning system. In addition, it suggests new methods that progress the accuracy of the existing systems and improve the efficient computation.

  • Rapid developments in wireless sensor networks have extended many applications, hence, many studies have developed wireless sensor network positioning systems for indoor environments. Among those systems, the Global Position System (GPS) is unsuitable for indoor environments due to Line-Of-Sight (LOS) limitations, while the wireless sensor network is more suitable, given its advantages of low cost, easy installation, and low energy consumption. Due to the complex settings of indoor environments and the high demands for precision, the implementation of an indoor positioning system is difficult to construct. This study adopts a low-cost positioning method that does not require additional hardware, and uses the received signal strength (RSS) values from the receiver node to estimate the distance between the test objects. Since many objects in indoor environments would attenuate the radio signals and cause errors in estimation distances, knowing the path loss exponent (PLE) in an environment is crucial. However, most studies preset a fixed PLE, and then substitute it into a radio propagation loss model to estimate the distance between the test points; such method would lead to serious errors. To address this problem, this study proposes a Path Loss Exponent Estimation Algorithm, which uses only four beacon nodes to construct a radio propagation loss model for an indoor environment, and is able to provide enhanced positioning precision, accurate positioning services, low cost, and high efficiency.

  • For providing personalized intelligent services to users, 3 dimensional indoor positioning technology to recognize the position of person and equipment becomes important. In this paper, the acoustic signal generated from the proliferated smart phone is received from the 5 microphones equipped in the front panel of 3D positioning system, and the two proposed methods estimate the 3D coordinate of the smart phone, and finally it is verified using the implemented experimental system.

  • With the development of ICT(Information and Communication Technology), the number of smart devices is rapidly increasing. LBS(Location Based Service) applications that provide user's location based service are used in various fields. There is also a growing demand for indoor precision positioning technology to provide seamless services. In this paper, we propose an indoor positioning system that estimates the location of a smartphone user. The proposed algorithm determines whether the received signal is LOS(Line-of-Sight) or NLOS(Non-Line of-Sight) in order to decrease multipath effect by the indoor environment. The proposed positioning algorithm is very simple and requires only the AP(Access Point) coordinates. In addition, it requires only two APs for estimating the location of a smartphone user. The proposed algorithm is a practically applicable technology without any additional hardware and kernel modification in the smartphone. In the experiment results, the reliability of the positioning system was found to be within 0.83 m.

  • LBS (Location Based Service) services are very useful to our daily life and it should be available inside a building: a huge building, a shopping mall, a large scale underground shopping center, and so on where GPS (Global Positioning System) signal is not available. An LBS which is provided inside a building is called an ILBS (Indoor Location Based Service). One of the most important techniques for ILBS development is indoor positioning. Among the indoor positioning techniques, APs (access points) of WLAN based ones are most economical because WLAN is available almost everywhere. Meanwhile, the web service has been proved to be an excellent practice of software reuse. Therefore, if indoor positioning is provided in the form of web service to programmers then development of ILBS would be greatly accelerated. This paper introduces the AP based trilateration and K-NN indoor positioning and RFID based indoor positioning web services we have developed.

  • The positioning technology that measures the position of a person or object is a key technology to deal with the location of the real coordinate system or converge the real and virtual worlds, such as digital twins, augmented reality, virtual reality, and autonomous driving. In estimating the location of a person or object at an indoor construction site, there are restrictions that it is impossible to receive location information from the outside, the communication infrastructure is insufficient, and it is difficult to install additional devices. Therefore, this study tested the direct sparse odometry algorithm, one of the visual Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (vSLAM) that estimate the current location and surrounding map using only image information, at an indoor construction site and analyzed its applicability as an indoor positioning technology. As a result, it was found that it is possible to properly estimate the surrounding map and the current location even in the indoor construction site, which has relatively few feature points. The results of this study can be used as reference data for researchers related to indoor positioning technology for construction sites in the future.

  • In the recent year, along with the rapid development of LED technology, many applications using LEDs have been researched and indoor positioning is one of them. In particular, previous indoor positioning systems based on visible light communication combine triangulation manner such as AoA, ToA TDoA. But most of them needs transmitting unique ID of each LED panel. In this paper, we propose an non LED-ID based indoor positioning system in which the visible light radiated from LEDs is used to locate the position of receiver. Compared to current indoor positioning systems using LED light, our system has the advantages of simple implementation, low cost and high accuracy. Through the computer simulation, our system can achieve a high estimation accuracy of 3.6cm in average in the $5{\times}5{\times}3m^3$ room.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze the positioning technique using TH-PPM ultra wideband for indoor environment. We employed AWGN and IEEE 802.15.3a channel as a simulation environment and used to TDOA algorithm. Positioning technique using ultra wideband has high accuracy in indoor environment. From the simulation results, it is analyzed the probability of error and positioning performance for channel effects and confirmed usefulness of the proposed scheme.
