Instead of testing split air conditioners, an empirically based calculation procedure may be used to estimate the Energy Efficiency Ratio at ARI A test conditions. Typically, the system involving the indoor unit well sold and the given outdoor unit is called the matched system. All other systems involving a given outdoor unit and other indoor units are called the mixed systems. To estimate the EER(A) for the mixed systems, EER(A) for the matched system must be known, Generally, the EER(A) for the matched system is known. This procedure relies on independent measurements and calculations made on an outdoor unit in conjunction with a matched indoor and a mixed indoor coil. A heat pump simulation model was used to quantify the effects of individual system components on the system performance. The procedure is applicable to all air-conditioning units having rated cooling capacities less than 19,000W and charged with refrigerant 22.
While cognition about an environment pollution becomes important recently, the intense pollution measures about an indoor air environment is required. In the case of building indoor environment, over 80% of modem people is living in building and these days an interest of building interior materials which becomes a reason for indoor environmental pollution in public house, office, is increasing. An experimental measurement method of this study is as follows. (1) American EPA TO-17, ASTMD5116-97, measurement method in VOCs experiment of Japanese closet industrial association (2) 2.4-DNPH cartridge method in HCHO experiment, based on American EPA TO-11 and measurement method of Japanese closet industrial association (3) standard compound is analyzed by using HPLC after solvent extraction process (4) paint and furniture are selected as measurement objects (5) we also made small chamber to grasp an emission characteristic of HCHO and VOCs and to get an environment-amicable forecast model through it, then we developed the model which can forecast emission rate by chamber experiment.
Management of indoor air quality of underground subway station is an important issue since the limited natural ventilation, limited sunshine incoming, and highly moistured atmosphere. The improvement in IAQ of platform is expected because most stations were installed with platform screen door currently, however, the poor air quality in tunnel might be affecting subway cabin indoor. In this study, we developed the air quality assessment model based on computational fluid dynamics. The geometry of air ventilation unit, seat, LCD monitors, and passengers were modeled using commercial software (Design Modeler) and fluid pattern and pollutants trajectories were analyzed by using CFX. We predicted the thermal comfort by predicted mean vote (PMV), distribution of CO2 and PM10 concentration. It is expected that this model can be used for the performance test of air cleaners which are under development.

It has been reported that a ship sailing in shallow water possesses better straight-line stability due to the change of fluid flow around the ship. This tendency affects manoeuvring characteristics of the ship. To investigate this phenomenon, indoor free running model test(FRMT) on KVLCC2 was carried out in three water depth conditions(H/T = 1.2, 1.5 & 2.0). Turning circle tests(± 35° ) and zigzag tests(± 20° /5° and ± 20° /10° ) were conducted with newly developed indoor FRMT system, and the manoeuvring results were compared with test results from other institutes. As the water depth decreased, the yaw rate of the ship decreased, and the distances of circular trajectories at the same heading angle increased in the turning circle tests. The first overshoot angles of the zigzag tests decreased. From both tests, the time for course change increased as the water depth decreased. These manoeuvring characteristics show that KVLCC2 in shallow water becomes more stable in terms of straight-line stability.
Before occupation of an apartment housing, the builders are required to inform the test result of IAQ to the public. However, there is no simplified method to predict IAQ before measurement of pollutant concentration. In this study, a simplified way of predicting IAQ based on the distribution of indoor pollutant concentration is proposed. 7 different cases of air change rate have been simulated through CFD analysis to get the distribution ratio of each pollutant material and then simplified functions were used with CRIAQ1 values derived from CFD simulation to evaluate by comparing the influence of each material in the indoor pollutant concentration. Again, a lot of efforts which can improve the indoor air quality have been performed. Materials used in indoor space are labeled with their pollutant emission level. Installation of ventilation system in residential buildings will be regulated by a building codes sooner or later. But it is important to understand the fact that layout of walls, location or size of openings will influence the indoor air flow and pollutant concentration. And location of emitting material influences to indoor air pollutants distribution. But until now there is few recognition and consideration of these factors. Therefore, in this paper the effects of these factors is proved and some kind of guideline is made for designers after a comparison of typical apartment floor plan and a new type plan with their average pollutant concentration and its distribution of each room. CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) program was used to show the indoor air flow and pollutant concentration distribution. For this purpose, a typical $100m^2$ apartment floor plan was chosen as a case study model and several alternatives were reviewed to improve the IAQ performance. The simulation took place in the condition of natural ventilation through windows.

In this paper, a new strategy for estimating building temperature based on the modified resistance capacitance (R - C) network thermal dynamic model is proposed. The proposed method gives accurate indoor temperature estimation using minimum variance finite impulse response filter. Our study is clarified by the experimental validation of the proposed indoor temperature estimation method. This experiment scenario environment is composed of a demand response (DR) server and home energy management system (HEMS) in a test bed.

Outdoors we can easily acquire our accurate location by GPS. However, the GPS signal can't be acquired indoors because of its weak signal power level. Adequate positioning method is demanded for many indoor positioning applications. At present, wireless local area network (WLAN) is widely installed in various areas such as airport, campus, and park. This paper proposes a positioning algorithm using WLAN signal strength to provide the position of the WLAN user indoors. There are two methods for WLAN based positioning, the signal propagation method uses signal strength model over space and the empirical method uses RF power propagation database. The proposed method uses the probability distribution of the power propagation and the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) algorithm based on power strength DB. Test results show that the proposed method can provide reasonably accurate position information.
Air quality of indoor space environment is affected by various pollutants like as particles and chemical stuffs. The indoor air pollution affects directly the human respiration organs to cause consequently unpleasant mental status. The $CO_2$ concentration level is one of the harmful components of air pollutants. Major factor to increase the $CO_2$ concentration level is the people's breath amount in indoor. The car exhaust gas diffused from the around road also has strong affect on $CO_2$ concentration. There are some other reasons to affect the $CO_2$ concentration change, such as, real-time change of the population movement, closeness to the indoor air flow inlet window and changes in road car traffic amount. A remote monitoring system to measure environmental indoor air pollution concerning on the $CO_2$ concentration was studied and installed realized set-up model. Zigbee network configuration was applied for this system and the $CO_2$ concentration data were collected through USN network. A software program was developed to assure systematic analysis and to display real-time data on web pages. For the experimental test various condition was set up, like as, window opening, stopping air condition operation and adjusting fan heater work, etc. The analysis result showed the relation of various environmental conditions to $CO_2$ concentration changes. The causes to increase $CO_2$ concentration were experimentally defined as windows closing, the stopping air condition system, fan heater operation. To keep the $CO_2$ concentration under the legally required ppm level in public access indoor space, the developed remote measurement system will be usefully applied.

Recently, the numerical analysis using person shape model for CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamic) has been researched widely for the thermal comfort and inhaled air quality of human body in the indoor environments. The purpose of this research is to examine the characteristic of airflow and thermal environment around human body by the experiment of displacement ventilation that assumes the indoor environment of natural convection. In this study, thermal manikin was used instead of real human body. The Airflow characteristic around human body was measured in precision by PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry). This experimental result will be used as data for CFD benchmark test using person shape model.
