  • Although it is known that there are personality characteristic variances in the sensitivity to environmental feedback, the trait individual difference has scarcely been explored in the context of recognition memory decision. The present study investigated this issue by examining the relationship between the feedback-based adaptive flexibility of recognition criterion positioning and personality differences in general sensitivity to non-laboratory outcomes. Experiment 1 demonstrated that veridical feedback itself had little effect on the recognition decision criterion whereas Experiment 2 demonstrated that biased feedback manipulations selectively restricted to high confidence errors, induced shifts even in the overall Old/New category criterion. Critically, individual differences in stable personality characteristic linked to reward seeking(Behavioral Activation System-BAS) and anxiety avoidance (Behavioral Inhibition System-BIS) has been shown to predict the sensitivity of subjects to this form of feedback-induced criterion learning. This data further support the idea that incremental reinforcement-based learning mechanism not often considered important during explicit recognition decisions may play a key role in criterion setting.

  • Video image processing systems(VIPS) offer numerous benefits to transportation models and applications, due to their ability to monitor traffic in real time. VIPS based on wide-area detection, i.e., multi-lane surveillance algorithm provide traffic parameters with single camera such as flow and velocity, as well as occupancy and density. However, most current commercial VIPS utilize a tripwire detection algorithm that examines image intensity changes in the detection regions to indicate vehicle presence and passage, i.e., they do not identify individual vehicles as unique targets. If VIPS are developed to track individual vehicles and thus trace vehicle trajectories, many existing transportation models will benefit from more detailed information of individual vehicles. Furthermore, additional information obtained from the vehicle trajectories will improve incident detection by identifying lane change maneuvers and acceleration/deceleration patterns. The objective of this research was to relate traffic safety to VIPS tracking and this paper has developed a computer vision system of monitoring individual vehicle trajectories based on image processing, and offer the detailed information, for example, volumes, speed, and occupancy rate as well as traffic information via tripwire image detectors. Also the developed system has been verified by comparing with commercial VIP detectors.

  • Monitoring for the physiological state of a solider is essential to the realization of individual combat system. Despite all efforts over the last decades, there is no report to point out the optimal location of the wearable biosensors considering both monitoring accuracy and operational robustness. In response, we quantitatively measure body temperature and heartrate from 34 body parts using 2 kinds of biosensor arrays, each of which consists of a thermocouple(TC) sensor and either a photoplethysmography(PPG) sensor or an electrocardiography(ECG) sensor. The optimal location is determined by scoring each body part in terms of signal intensity, convenience in use, placement durability, and activity impedance. The measurement leads to finding the optimal location of wearable biosensor arrays. Thumb and chest are identified as best body parts for TC/PPG sensors and TC/ECG sensors, respectively. The findings will contribute to the successful development of individual combat system.

  • Nowadays, most big hospitals have a computer system to manage their administration. For maxi mum effectiveness in managing the computer system, an analysis of the variables affecting its implementation is necessary from the beginning. This study was done to analyze the variables influencing the operation of a hospital information system (HIS). The theoretical base for this study considered the combined effects of user expectations of computerization, and computer-anxiety. The relationship between variables in the theoretical base were analyzed and the individual characteristics influencing each variable were also analyzed. This study was done in two steps. First, 344 nurses were given an initial questionnaire developed to evaluate the reliability of the items. Based on the results, a second revised questionnaire was administered to 88 nurses who had been working in the areas where HIS was applied. The results of the first and second steps of the study are as follows 1. The initial study was done with nurses who were trained on the computer system briefly before HIS was implemented. The individual characteristics influencing computer anxiety and expectation regarding computer system usage in that initial study included, length of career, type of degree or certification, previous experiences with a computer, training on a computer, desire for computer training, and level of acceptance of a computerized work environment. But in the second study with nurses working in areas of the hospital where HIS was introduced, the work site was the only influencing characteristics. There-fore, in applying a computer system, overcoming work-environment barriers will be more import-ant than any individual characteristics. 2. The computer anxiety of the nurses in both groups, before and after the computer system ap-plication, was below the average level but the expectation of the effects of computerization was above average. The nurses using the computer program showed an above average level of satis-faction with the computer system itself, and with its effect on their efficiency. Therefore, the ability of nurses operating HIS will be positively. predictive. 3. For the variables included in the theoretical framework of the study, all of the correlational coefficients were statistically significant in the analysis of variation correlation. Therefore, the theoretical base of the study, "expectation in con junction with computer anxiety" can be considered an model which can be evaluated. Accord-ing to our analysis, the higher the level of nurses' motivation to use the computer system and the lower the anxiety about computer usage, the higher the possibility of computer system acceptance by nurses. The results of this study showed that in applying a computer system in the hospital, the main characteristic influencing acceptance was where the individual worked rather than personal characteristics such as length of career, type of degree or certification, and previous experiences with a computer. Therefore, it is suggested that the first step in uncovering and eliminating hindrance factors in ap-plication of a computer system should be an analysis of working conditions in relation to the functional content of the computer system. The suitability of the theoretical model based on the hypothesis ap-plied in this study should be further tested.

  • Rapid design and production techniques are indispensable for the custom-made production systems. For manufacturing custom-made shoes, the shoelast should be designed rapidly from the individual foot model. In this paper, we develop an integrated system for rapid design and manufacturing of custom-tailored shoes. The foot shape measurement sub-system allows scanning a standard shoelast and an individual foot and then extracts the three-dimensional crosssectional data of the shoelast and the human foot shape from the captured image data. The shoelast design sub-system uses the scanned data to design new customized shoelast curves or surfaces with the heeling and mixing algorithms built in this system. The pattern design subsystem provides a method, which transforms a shoe-upper surface designed by a stylist into a flat-pattern that can be manufactured. We also export the surface model to an NC machine to manufacture the physical shoelast model.

  • In this paper, we introduce a system that detects all kinds of violations at a street intersection such as red light running, speed violation, stop line violation and lane violation by tracking individual vehicles. Two cameras are used for defecting violations. One is an analog camera for real-time tracking and the other is a digital camera for license plate reading. This system is connected to the traffic signal system controller and monitors the red, arrow, yellow and green phases of an approach. Two loops in the road are used to detect vehicle approach and speed. The system takes pictures of all vehicles passing a second loop and tracks the vehicles until they go out a street intersection...

  • Routing region modeling methods for PCB auto-routing system in Shape based type(non-grid method) used region process type and the shape located in memory as a individual element, and this element consumed small memory due to unique data size. In this paper we design PCB(Printed Circuit Board) auto-routing system using the auction algorithm method that 1) Could be reached by solving the shortest path from single original point to various destination, and 2) Shaped based type without any memory dissipation with the best speed. Also, the auto-routing system developed by Visual C++ in Window environment, and can be used in IBM Pentium computer or in various individual PC system.

  • We consider a two-phase queueing system with Bernoulli feedback. Customers arrive at the system according to a Poison process and receive batch service in the first phase followed by individual services in the second phase. Each customer who completes the individual service returns to the tail of the second phase service queue with probability 1 -$\sigma$. This type of queueing problem cad be easily found in computer and telecommunication systems. By deriving a relationship between the generating functions for system size at various embedded epochs, we obtain the system size distribution. The exhaustive and gated cases for the batch service are considered.

  • In conventional maglev system, the individual control system has been adopted. When this control system is applied, it is able to degrade the stability of levitation because of the interferance between magnet. And so, it is desiarable to be controled in global, collective control. In doing so, the dynamic suspension characteristics is improved. In this paper, collective control system using the equivalent inertia is examined and the dynamic characteristic are compared with that of individual control system.
