  • We present HST NIC3 photometry of metal-rich globular clusters Palomar 6, Liller 1 and 47 Tuc (NGC 104). We discuss the interstellar reddening law for the HST NICMOS F110W/F160W photometric system which depends on the temperature of the source. The distance moduli and interstellar reddening values for Palomar 6 and Liller 1 are estimated by comparing the magnitudes and colors of RHB stars in the clusters with those of 47 Tuc. We obtain $(m-M)_0=14.48$mag and E(B-V)=1.34mag for Palomar 6 and $(m-M)_0=15.17$mag and E(B-V)=2.50 mag for Liller 1.

  • NGC 6716 is an intermediate-age open cluster in Sagittarius. In this paper, we present the new UBV CCD photometry of the stars in the cluster, which is deeper than previous ones. From the color-color diagram and the color-magnitude diagram, we derived a reddening $E_{B- V} = 0.17\pm0.03$ and a distance modulus of the cluster, $(V - Mv)_o = 9.2\pm0.1$. An age of the cluster is estimated as $8\pm10^7 yrs$ from the latest isochrone. Luminosity function and mass function of the cluster are derived. The gradient of the mass function of bright stars is a bit steep, $\Gamma = -1.85\pm0.05$, and there is no distinct bump and dip in the mass function.

  • We presents a study of interactions between galaxies in the low-redshift group known as the NGC 4065 group. Imaging data were taken using the 2.4 meter telescope at the Thai National Observatory (TNO) for B, V and $R_c$ broadband filters and [$S\small{II}$] and Red-continuum narrowband filters. There are 21 galaxies in our sample. The results show that most early type galaxies (ETGs) with equivalent width EW($H{\alpha}$) < $10{\AA}$ are gas-deficient galaxies, while late type galaxies (LTGs) show more EW($H{\alpha}$) and are bluer than the ETGs. This means that star formation activity in the LTGs could be triggered by tidal interactions between galaxy members due to dense environmental effects in the compact group.

  • This work aims to study the evolution of galaxies, located in the dense environment of the NGC 4095 compact group, which have recession velocities 6,000 < v ($km\;s^{-1}$) < 8,000. Imaging observations for BV $R_c$ broad-band, and [$S\small{II}$] and red-continuum narrow-band were carried out with the 2.4 m Thai National Telescope (TNT) at Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai, Thailand. The sample contains 13 galaxies, consisting of 8 spirals, 4 ellipticals and 1 irregular morphological type. Late type galaxies tend to be bluer than early type galaxies. The results show that most of the late type galaxies have ongoing star formation activity, which could be triggered by galaxy-galaxy or tidal interactions, and that young massive stars in these galaxies cause their colors to be bluer than the early type galaxies.

  • This is the second paper on a systematic search for variable stars in Cyg OB3 region. In this paper we present the observational properties of 46 variable stars found in the region. Among them, 27 are eclipsing binaries and others are semi-long periodic or slow irregular variables. Only 5 are known variables and the rest are newly discovered ones. We have obtained the period and amplitude of 20 eclipsing binaries using the phase fitting method, and present the light curves of 46 variable stars.

  • We investigated the circumnuclear region of the Seyfert 2 galaxy NGC 5728, using the CFHT 3.6 m OASIS $[S_{II}]$, $[O_{III}]$ & $H\beta$ spectral images complemented with the IUE spectra. The physical condition of the circumnuclear zone has been derived: the gas density (indicated by $[S_{II}]$6716/31 ratio) around the C core is generally similar to that around the NW core, i.e., $\sim500cm^{-3}$. However, there appears to be evidence of a higher density shell in front of the NW core, $\sim10^4cm^{-3}$ at -250 km $s^-1$. The IUE $Si_{III}$]1892/$C_{III}$]1909 ratio implies a possible presence of a broad emission region of gas densities of $\sim10^{10}cm^{-3}$. The SE cone and surrounding area show several prominent features, while the NW cone does not show any particular structure: we identified three prominent blobs in the SE cone and one possible candidate in the NW cone. The outflow activities exist within the relatively large conic opening angle. We discussed the possibility of inflow or outflow activities of blobs found in the circumnuclear region of NGC 5728. The gas around two cores, two cones, and several blobs, is likely to be excited by the AGN hot source(s).

  • We investigated the high dispersion spectra that had been secured at the center of the planetary nebula NGC 7027 with the Bohyunsan Optical Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) on October, 20, 2009. We analyzed the forbidden lines of [OI], [SII], [OII], [NII], [ClIII], [ArIII], [OIII], [ArIV], [NeIII], [ArV], and [CaV] in the $3770-9225{\AA}$ wavelength region. The expansion velocities were derived from double Gaussian line profiles of the emission lines, after eliminating the subsidiary line broadening effects. The radial variations of the expansion velocities were obtained by projecting the derived expansion velocities: $19.56-31.93kms^{-1}$ onto the equatorial shell elements of the inner and the outer boundaries of the main shell of 2.5(2.1)" and 3.8(3.6)", according to the ionization potential of each ion. Analysis of equatorial shell spectra indicated that the equatorial shell generally expands in an accelerated velocity mode, but the expansion pattern deviates from a linear velocity growth with radial distance. NGC 7027, of which age is about 1000 years or less, might be still at its early stage. During the first few hundred years, plausibly in its early stage, the main shell of PN expands very slowly and, later, it gradually gain its normal expansion speed.

  • We present UBV I photometry of the old open cluster NGC 1193. Color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of this cluster show a well defined main sequence and a sparse red giant branch. For the inner region of r < 50", three blue straggler candidates are newly found in addition to the objects Kaluzny (1988) already found. The color-color diagrams show that the reddening value toward NGC 1193 is E(B - V ) = $0.19{\pm}0.04$. From the ultraviolet excess measurement, we derived the metallicity to be [Fe/H]= $-0.45{\pm}0.12$. A distance modulus of ${(m\;-\;M)}_0$ = $13.3{\pm}0.15$ is obtained from zero age main sequence fitting with the empirically calibrated Hyades isochrone of Pinsonneault et al. (2004). CMD comparison with the Padova isochrones by Bertelli et al. (1994) gives an age of log t = $9.7{\pm}0.1$.

  • NGC 1333 is a nearby star forming region, and IRAS 4A and IRAS 4BI are low-mass Class 0 protostars. IRAS 4A is a protobinary system. The NGC 1333 IRAS 4 region was observed in the 22 GHz water maser with a high resolution (0.08") using the Very Large Array. Two groups of masers were detected: one near A2 and the other near BI. Most of the masers associated with A2 are located very close (< 100 AU) to the radio continuum source. They may be associated with the circumstellar disk. Since no maser was detected near AI, the A2 disk is relatively more active than the Al disk. Most of the masers in the BI region are distributed along a straight line, and they are probably related with the outflow. As in many other water maser sources, the IRAS 4 water masers seem to trace selectively either the disk or the outflow. Considering the outflow lifetimes, the disk-outflow dichotomy is probably unrelated with the evolutionary stage of protostars. A possible explanation may be that both the outflow-maser and the disk-maser are rare phenomena and that detecting both kinds of maser around a single protostar may be even rarer.

  • In this paper, we investigate the correlation between the radial ultraviolet color distribution and the shapes of the ultraviolet isophote for elliptical galaxies (M32, NGC 1399) and spiral bulges (of M31, M81) by using their archival UIT images. For M31, M81, and NGC 1399, the radial ultraviolet color distributions show a two-component trend; as the distance from the galactic center increase the color becomes redder in the inner region while it becomes bluer in the outer region. On the other hand, the color of M32 continues to become bluer with the increasing galactocentric distance. We also find, unlike the optical/IR images, significant variations of the position angle and the ellipticity in the ultraviolet isophotes of M31, M81, and NGC 1399 through the inner regions. For M32, the variation is significant in the outer region. Since these variation implies the triaxiality of their intrinsic shapes, we suggest that the early-type galaxies and spiral bulges with a radial color gradient in ultraviolet tend to have a triaxiality. On the other hand, the shape parameter characterized by the fourth order cosine Fourier coefficient of the isophote, a(4)/a, indicates that the systematic deviations of the ultraviolet isophotes of the four galaxies are smaller than $\~0.2\%$ in units of the semi-major axis. The latter result implies that the ultraviolet isophotes of the galaxies have a pure elliptical shape rather than the boxy or disky shapes. Therefore, there is no clear evidence of correlation between the radial ultra-violet color gradient and the boxy/disky shapes of isophotes.
