  • This study, through biomechanical analysis, conducts a risk assessment of injury occurrence in ballet dancers while they perform running and jumping movements. The participants were nine female collegiate students majoring in ballet(age: $20.89{\pm}1.17years$; height: $160.89{\pm}7.01cm$; mass: $48.89{\pm}3.26$). Descriptive data were expressed as $mean{\pm}standard$ deviation(SD) for all variables. An independent t-test was conducted to determine how the following variables differed: duration time, position of the center of gravity, angle of the hip, torque of the hip, and muscle activity. All comparisons were made at the p<0.05 significance level. The results show that the jump time was two times longer than the run time in the duration time. The jump length was also longer than the run. The angle of the hip and the torque at the hip were higher in the right. The vastus medialis muscle was most frequently used. These findings demonstrate that participants' jumps may require more biomechanical variables for performance of better and more correct $jet{\acute{e}}$.

  • A habitat model was developed to delineate potential habitat of the leopard cat (Prionailurus bengalensis) in a mountainous region of Kangwon Province, Korea. Between 1997 and 2005, 224 leopard cat presence sites were recorded in the province in the Nationwide Survey on Natural Environments. Fifty percent of the sites were used to develop a habitat model, and the remaining sites were used to test the model. Fourteen environmental variables related to topographic features, water resources, vegetation and human disturbance were quantified for 112 of the leopard cat presence sites and an equal number of randomly selected sites. Statistical analyses (e.g., t-tests, and Pearson correlation analysis) showed that elevation, ridges, plains, % water cover, distance to water source, vegetated area, deciduous forest, coniferous forest, and distance to paved road differed significantly (P < 0.01) between presence and random sites. Stepwise logistic regression was used to develop a habitat model. Landform type (e.g., ridges vs. plains) is the major topographic factor affecting leopard cat presence. The species also appears to prefer deciduous forests and areas far from paved roads. The habitat map derived from the model correctly classified 93.75% of data from an independent sample of leopard cat presence sites, and the map at a regional scale showed that the cat's habitats are highly fragmented. Protection and restoration of connectivity of critical habitats should be implemented to preserve the leopard cat in mountainous regions of Korea.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate variations in velar shape according to age, sex, and race using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Materials and Methods: The study sample consisted of 170 participants (85 children, 85 adults) between 4 and 34 years of age. Velar morphology was visually classified using midsagittal MRI scans for each participant by 2 independent raters. Inter- and intra-rater reliability was assessed. Statistical analyses were performed to identify correlations of velar shape with sex, age, and race. Results: The most frequent velar shape was "butt" for both adults(41%) and children (58%) in this study. The least common shapes for adults were "leaf" and "S." The children did not exhibit any "leaf" or "straight" velar shapes. A statistically significant difference was noted for age with respect to velar shape (P=0.014). Sex and race were found to have no significant impact on velar shape in this study. Conclusion: When using MRI to evaluate velar morphology, the "butt" shape was most common in both children and adults. Velar shape varied significantly with age, while race and sex did not have a significant impact.

  • This study examined the use of Facebook in United Arab Emirates. There were two objectives of this study. The first purpose was to identify the motive for the use of Facebook among people in U.A.E. This study conducted the survey using both qualitative and quantitative methods. One hundred eighty-three working people were used from the survey. Thirty-five questions identified from the interviews were used for the questionnaire design in quantitative method. Factor analysis showed six factors namely usefulness, usage, reliability, making new friends, ethical issue and openness of information. The total variance explained by all the factors was fifty-two percent. This study also examined the demographic variables whether they would play an important role in using the social network site. The study included two more variables, income and married status, which were not frequently examined by previous studies. MANOVA showed statistical significant differences (p < .01) across six factors. ANOVA results showed that gender variable affected only the factor of openness of information. Males were more likely to share their information compared to females. Income variable affected all the factors except the openness of information. The results showed that high-income people had the highest meanscores on three factors (usage, reliability, making new friends) while low-income people had the highest means on usefulness and ethical factors.Marital status had significant effects on usefulness, reliability, and ethical factors. Married people had the low scores on reliability and ethical factors. Lastly, education variable had no effect on all the factors examined.

  • In the present investigation twelve indigenous medicinal plants have been screened for their antiimplantation activity in albino rats. The plant material was subjected for soxhlation successively and separately from non-polar solvents to polar solvents i.e., petroleum ether benzene and ethanol. Out of these three extracts the petroleum ether extract of seeds of Citrus medica, aerial part of Oxalis corniculata and Tinospora cardifolia have showed maximum antiimplantation activity. Ethanol extract of leaves of Cardiospermum helicacabum, roots of Echinops echinatus, leaves of Melia azedarach, seeds of Momordica charantia and bark of Terminalia bellirica have shown maximum antiimplantation activity amongst the three extracts of each plant material screened. Though all the three extracts of seeds of Annona squamosa and leaves of Zizyphus jujube screened for antiimplantation activity, no extract has showed any loss in implantation. The details of the results obtained are discussed.

  • Let {$Y_i$,-$\infty$ < i < $\infty$} be a doubly infinite sequence of i.i.d. random variables with E|$Y_1$| < $\infty$, {$a_{ni}$,-$\infty$ < i < $\infty$ n $\geq$ 1} an array of real numbers. Under some conditions on {$a_{ni}$}, we obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for $\sum\;_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{1}{n}P(|\sum\;_{i=-\infty}^{\infty}a_{ni}(Y_i-EY_i)|$>$n{\epsilon})$<{\infty}$. We examine whether the result of Spitzer [11] holds for the moving average process, and give a partial solution.

  • In this paper, a novel post processing using Wiener filtering technique is proposed to p rm further interference reduction in FDICA. Using the proposed method, the target signal components are remained with little attenuation while the interference components are drastically suppressed. The results of experiments show that the proposed method achieves a reduction of the residual crosstalk. Compared to the NLMS method, the proposed method has slightly better separation performance in SIR, and even requires much less computational complexity.

  • In this paper a comprehensive study for the structural control of Jacket platform with Magneto-Rheological (MR) damper is presented. The control is implemented as a closed loop feedback of the applied voltage in the MR Damper using fuzzy logic. Nine cases of combinations with MR damper are presented to complete the work. The selection of the MR damper (RD 1005-3) is based on the operating parameters (i.e., the range of frequency and displacement). Bingham model is used to obtain the control forces. The damping co-efficient of the model is obtained using empirical relationship between the voltage in the MR damper and input velocity from the structural members. The force acting on the structure is obtained from Morison equation using P-M spectrum. The results show that the reliable control was obtained when there was a continuous connection of multiple MR dampers with the lower levels of the structure. Independent MR dampers at different levels provided control within a range, while the MR dampers placed at alternate positions gave very high control.

  • In this paper it is concerned to develop control method using jar-test results in order to predict the optimum dosage of coaglant, PAC(PoliAluminum Chloride). Considering the relations with the reactions with the reaction of coagulation and flocculation, the five independent variables ( e, g, turbidity of raw water, water turbidity in flocculators, temperature, pH, and alkalynity) are selected out of parameters and they are put into calculation to develop a neural network model for PAC dosing process in water purification system. This model is utilized to predict optimum dosage of PAC. That is, the optimum dosage of PAC is searched in neural network model for PAC dosing process to minimize the water turbidity in flocculators. This searching is implemented by means of expert heuristics. The efficacy of the proposed contorl schemem and feasibility of acquired neural network model for PAC dosing contorl in water purification system is evaluated by means of computer simulation.

  • Let ${X_n : n = 1,2,\cdots}$ be a sequence of pairwise independent identically distributed random vectors taking values in a separable Hilbert space H such that $E \Vert X_1 \Vert = \infty$. Let $S_n = X_1 + X_2 + \cdots + X_n$ and for any real $\alpha$ with $0 < \alpha < 1$ define a sequence ${\gamma_n(\alpha)}$ as $\gamma_n(\alpha) = inf {r : P(\Vert S_n \Vert \leq r) \geq \alpha}$. Then $$ lim_{n \to \infty} sup \Vert S_n \Vert/\gamma_n(\alpha) = \infty $$ holds. This is a generalization of Vvedenskaya[2].
