  • It was investigated that two rods of aluminium can be welded by hot extru-pressure welding method with stepped welding dies, and that the welding pressure on the welding surface were analyzed by computer simulation according to the stepped shapes of welding dies. It was known by computer simulation that welding pressure on the welding section of rods welded using stepped welding dies without eccentricity is lowerer than the welding pressure of rods welded using stepped welding dies with eccentricity of welding surface, and that the welding pressure on the welding section of rods using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies is higher than the welding pressure of rods using stepped welding dies without eccentricity. And it was known by experiments that two rods of aluminium can be welded on the end sections by hot pressure welding method using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies without relative rotational movement of contacted aluminium rods needed for the purpose of friction heating and pressure.

  • It was studied the phenomena of transient freezing of an inclined water-saturated enclosure. One side of the test section was cooled and the other sides were insulated. The effects of the initial temperature, the inclination angle on the temperature field and the shape of the ice-water interface were observed. In the beginning of freezing, with increasing the inclination angle the freezing rate was increased and in the stable density layer centered $4^{\circ}C$, the freezing was fast as the convective fluid flow became small. When the initial temperature was above the $4^{\circ}C$, the frozen thickness in the upper part of inclined surface was thinner than that in the lower part, but with time the frozen thickness of upper part was thicker than that of lower part, below the $4^{\circ}C$, the frozen thickness in the upper part was thicker than that of lower part from the begining, and above the $8^{\circ}C$ in the beginning upper part was thinner with concave, but with time thicker the upper part, vanishing concave.

  • The Directed Energy Deposition (DED) is a representative metal additive manufacturing method. Owing to its strong point of repairment, its application is gradually spreading in aerospace applications, power generation, military components, and mold making. 5-axis cladding is needed to repair damage, such as wear and scratches on cylindrical surfaces to circular-shaped parts, including sleeves and liners. Furthermore, the condition of cladding on inclined parts must also be considered to prevent interference between the nozzle and the part. In this study, the effects of changes in scanning speed due to the 5-axis control system and differences from the height of laser beam irradiation due to inclination are evaluated among the items that should be additionally considered in 5-axis cladding compared to 3-axis cladding. Moreover, the trends of the width and height of the clad are identified by different tilting angles via single line cladding. Lastly, cladding methods on cylindrical surfaces at various angles are proposed to enhance the clad quality and post-processing efficacy. These results can be applied with 5-axis cladding on inclined surfaces, including cylindrical surfaces.

  • When an under-expanded supersonic jet impinges on an inclined flat surface, a complex flow structure is established due to the intersection between the flat surface and the shock system of the free jet. This study reports on an experimental results of flows due to under-expanded axisymmetric sonic jets impinging on flat plate. Plate inclination from $60^{\cire}$~$90^{\cire}$ were investigated by means of detailed measurements of the surface pressure and schlieren photograph and surface flow visualization. The schlieren photograph are consistent with the pressure distribution and the surface flow visualization pictures are clearly related to the pressure distributions. The maximum wall pressure is found to be large on the inclined plate than on the perpendicular plate.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of shot peening angle on residual stress distribution. From the residual stress analysis of perpendicular shot peening, it could be known that the residual stress in the case of high velocity is larger than low velocity, but the amount of shot size has little effect on the magnitude of compressive residual stress. The centroidal residual stress is not greatly affected by the inclined shot peening but mainly related to the unstable conditions of surface residual stress field. Therefore, this tendency may lead to reduce fatigue life of treated material.

  • This paper presents the contact thermal behaviors of mechanical seals depending on the contacting face geometry. Using the finite element analysis, the temperature distribution, thermal distortion and leakage have been analyzed as functions of sealing gap and rotating speed of the seal ring shaft. The FE results indicate that the inclined contacting face may be more effective and stable based on the results of thermal characteristic analysis if the seal ring has been designed with a same thermal capacity between conventional rectangular sealing faces and inclined seating surface of seal rings.

  • The three-dimensional profile of a solder fillet is predicted by minimizing the surface tension and gravity energies of the solder joint using finite element modeling. Geometric complexity stemming from the inclined plane of the gullwing lead is resolved by employing three element types. These element types are used to describe the joint profile formed on the vertical, inclined and interfacial planes. The predicted solder joint profiles show good agreements with the experimental data provided that the solder volume is adjusted considering the wicking effects. Effects of the pad length, inclined lead angle and solder volume on joint profiles are also investigated.

  • In this study, we show the maximum cavity radius prediction model that a droplet impacts an inclined bath. Surface tensions, viscosities, inclination angles of a bottom substrate, droplet diameters, falling heights of the droplet are varied for the experiment. We experimentally observe that the cavity grows in hemispherical shape like the cavity formed in a deep bath although the depth of the bath is non-uniform due to an inclined bottom substrate. We derive two theoretical models to predict the experimental results of the fully developed cavity. Although each model has error, we observe that qualitatively theoretical model predicts the trend of experiment results well.

  • The objective of this paper is to study the effect of frequency in a two-dimensional orthotropic thermoelastic rotating solid with fractional order heat transfer in generalized thermoelasticity with two-temperature due to inclined load. As an application the bounding surface is subjected to uniformly and linearly distributed loads (mechanical and thermal source). The problem is solved with the help of Fourier transform. Assuming the disturbances to be harmonically time dependent, the expressions for displacement components, stress components, conductive temperature and temperature change are derived in frequency domain. Numerical inversion technique has been used to determine the results in physical domain. The results are depicted graphically to show the effect of frequency on various components. Some particular cases are also discussed in the present research.

  • In this study, numerical analysis and experiments were performed to analyze the viscous damping effect according to the shape of the chamber skirt of the breakwater-linked inclined oscillating water column wave energy converter. Experiments were conducted using a two-dimensional mini wave tank and verified by comparing the results of a computational fluid dynamics numerical analysis. Pointed and rounded skirts were modeled to compare the effect of viscous damping when incident waves enter the chamber, and the difference in the displacement of the water surface in the chamber was compared according to the wave period for the two skirt shapes. The wave elevation in the chamber in the rounded-skirt condition was larger than the pointed-skirt condition in all wave periods, which was approximately 47% greater at 0.9 s of the incident wave period. Therefore, extracting the maximum energy through the optimal orifice is possible while minimizing the energy attenuation in the rounded-skirt condition.
