복지 사육환경에서 산란계 및 육계의 사양지침 변화 (Changes in the Feeding Regimen for Chicken Under Welfare-bestowed Environment)

  • Poultry welfare has recently appeared as worldwide concern as well as Korea. The recent action plan for farm animal welfare introduced by the European Commission intends to expand the body of regulatory standards. In this context, many countries and/or organization are on the verge of establishing the most optimum poultry welfare standards. To establish the most optimum standards, comparative analysis of feeding regimen before and after welfare-bestowed environment need to be preceded. Most guidelines or standards for poultry welfare do not suggest the nutritional requirements and feeding system in detail, although it is deterimental especially for the farmer. This review intends to find scientific base to establish detailed welfare feeding guidelines. However, only limited research has been conducted in the view of actual poultry welfare. The results indicated the incidence of SDS, ascites, skeletal dysfunctions caused by fast growth rate in broiler, feather pecking and cannibalism in laying hen, and feed restriction in broiler breeder could be reduced by changing nutritional regimen and feeding strategies or both. The regimen and feeding strategies are certainly near to the direction that the poultry welfare ought to be in the right track. In this article, feeding and drinking guidelines in many standards as well as welfare feeding experiments have been reviewed and compared In the view of chicken productivity, welfare physiology and poultry health.

Study on the transient flow induced by the windbreak transition regions in a railway subject to crosswinds

  • Due to the complex terrain around high-speed railways, the windbreaks were established along different landforms, resulting in irregular windbreak transition regions between different subgrade infrastructures (flat ground, cutting, embankment, etc). In this paper, the effect of a windbreak transition on the wind flow around railways subjected to crosswinds was studied. Wind tunnel testing was conducted to study the wind speed change around a windbreak transition on flat ground with a uniform wind speed inflow, and the collected data were used to validate a numerical simulation based on a detached eddy simulation method. The validated numerical method was then used to investigate the effect of the windbreak transition from the flat ground to cutting (the "cutting" is a railway subgrade type formed by digging down from the original ground) for three different wind incidence angles of 90°, 75°, and 105°. The deterioration mechanism of the flow fields and the reasons behind the occurrence of the peak wind velocities were explained in detail. The results showed that for the windbreak transition on flat ground, the impact was small. For the transition from the flat ground to the cutting, the influence was relatively large. The significant increase in the wind speeds was due to the right-angle structure of the windbreak transition, which resulted in sudden changes of the wind velocity as well as the direction. In addition, the height mismatch in the transition region worsened the protective effect of a typical windbreak.

Comparative evaluation of obesity-related parameters in junior sumo wrestlers and children with obesity

  • [Purpose] Exercise is a key factor in preventing obesity and metabolic syndrome. Sumo wrestlers increase their body size from childhood for athletic advantage; however, the risk of metabolic syndrome in junior sumo wrestlers is undetermined. Preventive measures against pediatric obesity should be initiated during childhood to prevent obesity in adulthood, considering its high global incidence. We comparatively evaluated the risk factors for metabolic syndrome in junior sumo wrestlers and children with obesity. [Methods] We enrolled 70 male children (age 9-17 years [sumo group, n = 14] and 9-14 years [other sports and non-exercise groups, n = 28 each]) and evaluated their anthropometric parameters (height, weight, body mass index z-score, obesity rate, waist circumference, waist to height ratio) and hematological parameters (total, low-density, high-density, and non-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol; triglycerides; plasma glucose, and glycated hemoglobin levels). [Results] The BMI z-score, obesity rate, waist circumference (p < 0.05, along with the non-exercise group), and systolic blood pressure were significantly higher and the high-density cholesterol level was lower in the sumo group than in the other sports group (p < 0.05). The waist to height ratio was significantly higher in the non-exercise group than in the other sports group (p < 0.05). No significant difference was found in other blood lipid, plasma glucose (significantly lower level than the reference range in the sumo group, p < 0.05), and glycated hemoglobin (within the reference range in all groups) levels among the three groups. [Conclusion] Junior sumo wrestlers had a larger body size and higher blood pressure than children with obesity who exercised regularly. This provides direction for future research into targeted preventive interventions against metabolic syndrome for junior sumo wrestlers with large body size.

중수로형 핵연료 피복관의 자동초음파탐상장치 개발 (Development of the Automated Ultrasonic Flaw Detection System for HWR Nuclear Fuel Cladding Tubes)

  • 중수로형 핵연료의 피복재로 사용되는 Zircaloy-4관의 결함검사를 위한 자동초음파 탐상 장치가 개발되었다. 이 장치에는 중심진동수가 14 MHz이고 대역폭이 11MHz인 집속 초음파 펄스를 사용한 수침 펄스-에코우 탐상기술과 특별히 고안된 시험수조 이송식 초음파주사 기술이 적용되었다 같은 크기와 방향을 갖는 관내외면 결함들을 같은 높이의 초음파 신호로 검출하기 위한 초음파 빔의 최적입사각은 26도이었다. Zircaloy-4피복관의 최대 허용 결함인, 깊이가 관두께의 10%인 0.04 mm이고, 길이가 0.76 mm인 축방향 및 길이가 0.38 mm인 원주방향 V형 인공결함들이 관내외면에 개재된 표준시험관을 사용하여 이 장치의 성능시험을 수행하였다. 그 결과 인공 표준시험관내의 모든 결함들을 매우 우수한 재현성을 갖고 분당 약 1m의 속도로 검출할 수 있었으며 이때의 신호 대 잡음 비는 축방향 결함에 대해서는 20 dB, 원주방향 결함에 대해서는 12 dB 이상이었다.

Effects of Pretreatment for Controlling Internal Water Transport Direction on Moisture Content Profile and Drying Defects in Large-Cross-Section Red Pine Round Timber during Kiln Drying

  • Round timber materials of 600 mm length, cut from large-cross-section round timber of red pine (Pinus densiflora S. et Z.) of 450 mm width and 4.2 m length, were prepared as the target of kiln drying in this study. After treating the target materials through end sealing (ES), end sealing - kerfing (ES-K), lateral sealing - end sealing - boring (LS-ES-B), or lateral sealing - partial end sealing (LS-PES), the effects of the treatment on the incidence of drying defects were determined. The target materials with exposed lateral surface and sealed cross surface were steamed at the initial temperature of 65℃ above the official pest control temperature of 56℃, followed by kiln drying toward the final temperature of 75℃. The target materials with sealed lateral surfaces, on the other hand, were dried at the initial temperature of 90℃ at almost the maximum temperature of conventional kiln drying, as there is no risk of early check formation caused by surface moisture evaporation. The final temperature was set at approximately 100℃. The drying time, taken for the target materials with initial moisture content of 70%-80% to reach the target moisture content of 19%, varied across treatment conditions. The measured drying time was 1,146 hours (approximately 48 days) for the timber with sealed cross surface and 745 hours (approximately 31 days) for the timber with sealed lateral surface, until the moisture content reached the target level. The formation of surface checks could not be prevented in the control and ES groups, but a definite preventive effect was obtained for the LS-ES-B and LS-PES groups.

도라지 재배환경 및 토양 형태학적 특성 (Survey on Cultural Environment and Soil Morphological Characteristics of Platycodon grangiflorus)

  • 토양 이화학적 성질에 따른 도라지 재배적지를 경남 진주 6, 김해 7, 고성 3, 함안 6, 거창 4개소 강원도 홍천 6개소 등 32개소를 대상으로 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 기온은 발병율과 $Y=3.07X^2-87.16X+649.26(R^2=0.947^{**})$, 수량과 $Y=-478.68X^2+13403X-90836(R^2=0.763^*)$의 유의성 있는 상관이 있었다. 재배년수는 진주 8.0년으로 다년생이었고 홍천 1.30ha로 가장 넓었으며 김해가 0.08ha로 좁았다. 평균 퇴비시용량은 홍천이 $108Mg\;ha^{-1}$로 과다시용하는 경향이었고 김해지역이 $4.96Mg\;ha^{-1}$로 적게 시용하였다. 경사는 고성이 35.0%로 급경지였고 거창은 28%로 구릉지이며 진주, 김해, 홍천은 경사가 11.7 11.0, 7.5%로 기복지를 나타냈다. 배수상태는 거창, 김해, 진주, 고성지역이 양호한 반면 홍천, 함안은 불량한 편이었고 농가재배지의 포장방향은 거창, 진주, 고성이 동남향이었으며 김해, 함안, 홍천지역은 북서방향이었다. 재배년수가 긴 진주지역이 근경 4.20cm, 주당 근중 57g으로 수량이 $36.17Mg\;ha^{-1}$로 높게 나타났다. 발병율은 함안, 홍천지역이 각각 56.8, 52.5%로 높게 나타났고 고성 진주지역이 30.0. 32.2%로 낮게 나타났다. 발병율은 배수등급과 Y=19.1X-5.26($R^2=0.592{***}$)지형과는 Y=9.68X+10.77($R^2=0.205^{**}$)의 고도의 유의성 있는 정의상관을 나타냈고, 수량은 배수등급과 Y=-10X+42($R^2=0.348^{**}$), 지형과는 Y=-5.34X+34.5 ($R^2=0.134^*$)의 부의상관을 나타냈다.

소규모 항만 구조물 주변에서 불규칙파에 대한 SWASH 모형의 반사 및 회절 (Characteristic of Wave Diffraction and Reflection for Irregular Waves in SWASH Model Around Small Port Structures)

  • 불규칙파에 의한 정온도 평가 시 주로 사용하는 Boussinesq 근사의 수치모형은 항의 개구부 폭이 약 30 m 내외의 좁은 마리나와 같은 소규모 항만에서는 격자 크기의 적용성 한계가 있고, 항 내로 진행하는 파의 회절에 대한 평가 시 정확한 정온도 평가가 어려울 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 정수면의 비정수압 항이 고려되어 해수면과 바닥층에서의 유속으로 계산하는 비선형 천수방정식 모형인 SWASH 모형(Zijlema and Stelling, 2005)을 사용하여 좁은 항의 개구부에서 정온도 평가의 적용성을 검토하였다. SWASH 모형은 구조물 및 지형에 입사하는 반사파 적용 시 수심과 공극율 계수 및 구조물 크기에 따라 부분 반사를 제어한다. 본 연구에서는 실제 구조물 단면 형태에 따른 구조물 전면에서의 반사파의 평가와 단면의 형태 및 구조물의 형태에 따라 반사율 적용성을 검토하였다. 항 내에 진입하는 회절 파랑에 의한 모델의 재현성을 평가하기 위해 구조물 직각 및 경사로 입사하는 영역을 구성하여 기존의 Goda et al.(1978)가 제시한 회절도 이론값과 비교하였다. 수심평균으로 계산된 단면 구조물 반사율 실험 결과는 Stelling and Ahrens(1981)이 제시한 반사율의 개략치와 유사한 반사율을 나타내며, 경계에서의 반사파의 제어와 구조물의 형상 및 지형에 따라 반사파가 잘 재현되는 것으로 판단된다. 회절도 검토 결과 파랑 진입 각도 및 회절파의 형태가 계산치가 이론값과 아주 유사하게 나타나지만, 경사 입사 및 직각 입사 모두 방향 집중도가 작은 경우 파고비가 0.5~0.6인 일부 구간에서 회절도가 저평가되는 것으로 나타났다.

인공위성 합성개구레이더 영상 자료의 해양 활용 - 해상풍 산출을 중심으로 - (Oceanic Application of Satellite Synthetic Aperture Radar - Focused on Sea Surface Wind Retrieval -)

  • 해상풍은 해양 현상을 이해하고, 지구 온난화에 의한 지구 환경의 변화를 분석하기 위한 필수 요소이다. 전세계 연구 기관은 해상풍을 정확하고 지속적으로 관측하기 위해 산란계(scatterometer)를 개발하여 운영해오고 있으며, 정확도는 풍향이 ${\pm}20^{\circ}$, 풍속이 ${\pm}2m\;s^{-1}$ 안팎이다. 하지만, 산란계의 해상도는 12.5-25.0 km로, 해안선이 복잡하고 섬이 많은 한반도 근해에서는 자료의 결측이 빈번하게 발생하여 활용도가 감소한다. 그에 반해, Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR, 합성개구레이더)는 마이크로파를 활용하는 전천후 센서로, 1 km 이하의 고해상도 해상풍이 산출이 가능하여 산란계의 단점 보완이 가능하다. 본 연구에서는 일반적으로 활용되는 SAR 자료 기반 해상풍 산출 알고리즘인 Geophysical Model Function (GMF, 지구 물리 모델 함수)를 밴드별로 분류하여 조사하였다. 상대 풍향, 입사각, 풍속에 따른 후방산란계수를 L-band Model (LMOD, L 밴드 모델), C-band Model (CMOD, C 밴드 모델), X-band Model (XMOD, X 밴드 모델)에 적용하여 모의하였고, 각 GMF의 특성을 분석하였다. 이러한 GMF를 SAR 탑재 인공위성 자료에 적용하여 산출한 해상풍의 정확도 검증 연구에 대해 조사하였다. SAR 자료 기반 해상풍의 정확도는 영상 관측 모드, 적용한 GMF의 종류, 정확도 비교 기준 자료, SAR 자료 전처리 방법, 상대 풍향 정보 산출 방법 등에 따라 변하는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 국내 연구자들의 SAR 자료 기반 해상풍 산출 방법에 대한 접근성이 향상되고, 고해상도 해상풍 자료를 활용한 한반도 근해 분석에 이바지할 것으로 기대된다.

두 가지 축구 골킥 동작의 운동역학적 비교 분석 (Biomechanical Comparative Analysis of Two Goal-kick Motion in Soccer)

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the effects of two different kicks, the drop kick and the punt kick, into the kicking motion, through the kinetic comparative analysis of the kicking motion, which is conducted when one kicks a soccer goal. To grasp kinetic changing factors, which is performed by individual's each body segment, I connected kicking motions, which were analyzed by a two dimension co-ordination, into the personal computer to concrete the digits of it and smoothed by 10Hz. Using the smoothed data, I found a needed kinematical data by inputting an analytical program into the computer. The result of comparative analysis of two kicking motions can be summarized as below. 1. There was not a big difference between the time of the loading phase and the time of the swing phase, which can affect the exact impact and the angle of balls aviation direction. 2. The two kicks were not affected the timing and the velocity of the kicking leg's segment. 3. In the goal kick motion, the maximum velocity timing of the kicking leg's lower segment showed the following orders: the thigh(-0.06sec), the lower leg(-0.05sec), the foot(-0.018sec) in the drop kick, and the thigh(-0.06sec), the lower leg(-0.05sec), the foot(-0.015sec) in the punt kick. It showed that whipping motion increases the velocity of the foot at the time of impact. 4. At the time of impact, there was not a significant difference in the supporting leg's knee and ankle. When one does the punt kick, the subject spreads out his hip joint more at the time of impact. 5. When the impact performed, kicking leg's every segment was similar. Because the height of the ball is higher in the punt kick than in the drop kick, the subject has to stretch the knees more when he kicks a ball, so there is a significant affect on the angle and the distance of the ball's flying. 6. When one performs the drop kick, the stride is 0.02m shorter than the punt kick, and the ratio of height of the drop kick is 0.05 smaller than the punt kick. This difference greatly affects the center of the ball, the supporting leg's location, and the location of the center of gravity with the center of the ball at the time of impact. 7. Right before the moment of the impact, the center of gravity was located from the center of the ball, the height of the drop kick was 0.67m ratio of height was 0.37, and the height of the punt kick was 0.65m ratio of height was 0.36. The drop kick was located more to the back 0.21m ratio of height was 0.12, the punt kick was located more to the back 0.28m ratio of height was 0.16. 8. There was not a significant difference in the absolute angle of incidence and the maximum distance, but the absolute velocity of incidence showed a significant difference. This difference is caused from that whether players have the time to perform of not; the drop kick is used when the players have time to perform, and punt kick is used when the players launch a shifting attack. 9. The surface reaction force of the supporting leg had some relation with the approaching angle. Vertical reaction force (Fz) showed some differences in the two movements(p<0.05). The maximum force of the right and left surface reaction force (Fx) didn't have much differences (p<0.05), but it showed the tendency that the maximum force occurs before the peak force of the front and back surface (Fy) occurs.

Identification of LEF1 as a Susceptibility Locus for Kawasaki Disease in Patients Younger than 6 Months of Age

  • Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute febrile vasculitis predominately affecting infants and children. The dominant incidence age of KD is from 6 months to 5 years of age, and the incidence is unusual in those younger than 6 months and older than 5 years of age. We tried to identify genetic variants specifically associated with KD in patients younger than 6 months or older than 5 years of age. We performed an age-stratified genome-wide association study using the Illumina HumanOmni1-Quad BeadChip data (296 cases vs. 1,000 controls) and a replication study (1,360 cases vs. 3,553 controls) in the Korean population. Among 26 candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) tested in replication study, only a rare nonsynonymous SNP (rs4365796: c.1106C>T, p.Thr369Met) in the lymphoid enhancer binding factor 1 (LEF1) gene was very significantly associated with KD in patients younger than 6 months of age (odds ratio [OR], 3.07; $p_{combined}=1.10{\times}10^{-5}$), whereas no association of the same SNP was observed in any other age group of KD patients. The same SNP (rs4365796) in the LEF1 gene showed the same direction of risk effect in Japanese KD patients younger than 6 months of age, although the effect was not statistically significant (OR, 1.42; p = 0.397). This result indicates that the LEF1 gene may play an important role as a susceptibility gene specifically affecting KD patients younger than 6 months of age.
