  • The solutions of orbital maneuver problem using the sliding mode control in the presence of the erath gravitational perturbations is obtained. Especially, the optimization of consuming fuel for maneuver is performed. The impulsive solution to Lambert's problem using the combined equation method to minimize total ${\Delta}V is used for the desired orbit and the maneuver times. Two-step sliding mode control method is introduced for satisfying the boundary conditions of finite-thrust rendezvous problem at the end of maneuver time. Using the new approach to the orbit maneuver problem, two-step sliding mode control, orbit maneuvers are processed. The solutions to a rendezvous using the optimal control are obtained, and they are compared to the results by two-step sliding control.According to the new approach for orbit maneuver, the thrust-coast-thrust type controller is obtained to make satellite to track desired Lambert's orbit, and the total ${\Delta}V$ required for maneuver is resonable in comparison with the impulsive solution to Lambert's problem. The final state variables, also are close to the boundary conditions at the end of maneuver times.

  • A novel locomotion using the pneumatic impulsive actuator was proposed for robotic colonoscope. This locomotion showed good moving performance in the environment of rigid pipe, however, the displacement per one impact(step displacement) is greatly reduced due to the low stiffness and high damping characteristics of the colon. Therefore, the modeling technique based on spring and damping system is studied to predict the step displacement and some parametric studies are carried out to investigate main parameters that influence the step displacement of locomotion. Based on simulation result, a new locomotion to control the resistance force is suggested and fabricated. Through the experiment on the colon, the usefulness of modeling technique is confirmed and successful improvement of moving characteristics is achieved.

  • In this study, the dynamic absorbing system using MR damper for the multiple structure system with high-level-impact force has been investigated. Based on the experiment and analysis of short recoil system, the dynamic absorbing system has been constructed by using MR damper and stroke-dependent variable damper. Through a series of experimental works with the devised test bench, the absorbing system with MR damper using reverse control is effective for reduction of the transmitted force, furthermore, for implementation to the multi-structure impulsive force system.

  • In this research, we propose a new efficient iterative method for fixed point problems of generalized α-nonexpansive mappings. We show the weak and strong convergence analysis of the proposed method under some mild assumptions on the control parameters. We consider the application of the new method to some real world problems such as convex minimization problems, image restoration problems and impulsive fractional differential equations. We carryout a numerical experiment to show the computational advantage of our method over some well known existing methods.

  • When a high-speed train enters a tunnel, a compression wave is generated. This wave subsequently emerges from the exit portal of the tunnel, which causes an impulsive noise called 'Sonic boom' or 'micro-pressure wave'. In the present study, new method is presented for prediction of sonic boom noise, especially focusing on the effect of the nose shape of the train on the resultant noise. Acoustic theory for monopole source is used to represent a nose shape of the train in wave equation. Compression wave propagation in tunnel considering tunnel track condition and emission of sonic boom was calculated. The predicted compression waves and impulsive sound waves are compared with recent measurements, and show reasonable agreements.

  • In order to elucidate the biological etiology and the relationship between the ontogenesis of serotonin system and psychopathology in ADHD, plasma serotonin(5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid(5-HIAA) were measured and the correlation between the plasma levels of 5-HT and 5-HIAA and age were evaluated in 46 ADHD patients and 18 control subjects. The ADHD patients were composed of 16 combined type, 10 inattentive type, and 20 hyperactive-impulsive type and the control subjects were communication disorders. The results are summarized as follows:1) There was significant difference in plasma 5-HT levels among combined, inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive and control subjects(ANOVA F=4.33, df 3, 60, p<0.05), and post-hoc test using Scheffe method showed significant difference between the combined type and control group. But, post-hoc tests showed no significant differences between combined and inattentive, combined and hyperactive-impulsive, hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive and control and inattentive and control groups. 2) There was no significant differences in plasma 5-HIAA levels among the combined, hyperactive- impulsive, inattentive and control groups(ANOVA F=2.08, df 3, 60, p>0.05). 3) Significant difference in 5-HT level was found between the whole ADHD group(N=46) and the control group(N=18)(T=3.10, df 62, p<0.05). But no significant difference in 5-HIAA level was found between the whole ADHD group and the control group(T=1.90, df 62, p>0.05). 4) Plasma 5-HT and 5-HIAA levels showed no significant correlation with TOVA findings(5-HT:omission pearson correlation 0.10, commision 0.23, reaction time 0.01, variability in attention 0.11, all p>0.05, 5-HIAA:omission 0.21, commision 0.15, reaction time 0.09, variability in attention 0.15, all p>0.05). 5) Plasma 5-HT and 5-HIAA levels showed no significant correlation with attention, hyperactivity and impulsivity based on DSM-IV criteria. 6) Plasma 5-HT and 5-HIAA levels showed no significant correlation with age both in ADHD and control group. These findings show that decreased plasma 5-HT level may play a role in the genesis of ADHD, but this finding has no significant correlation with the psychopathology of ADHD. And we could not find any significant differences in ontogenetic processes in 5-HT. Future studies should be focused on the drug effects, family history and prognosis based on the biochemical subtypes(high and low 5-HT group).

  • Some of manufacturing tasks such as sawing task often requires continuous impulsive motion. In case of sawing task, such impulsive motions can be observed between the teeth of the saw and the object. The amount of the external impulse exerted on the object has been treated as an important control parameter. The purpose of this work is to introduce a new concept of an effective mass in sawing task and to suggest an external impulse model in sawing task. A normalized impulse ellipsoid reflecting the velocity direction is employed to visualize the impact geometry. Experiments are performed for soft and hard workpieces to justify the external impulse model in the sawing task. It is demonstrated through simulation and experiment that the proposed external impulse model is effective to characterize the impact property.

  • The entry compression wave, which forms at the entrance of a high-speed railway tunnel, is closely related to the pressure transients in the train/tunnel systems as well as an impulsive noise appearing at the exit of the tunnel. In order to alleviate such undesirable phenomena, some control strategies have been applied to the compression wave propagating inside the tunnel. The objective of the current work is to investigate the effect of tunnel entrance hoods on the entry compression wave at the vicinity of the tunnel entrance. Three types of entrance hoods were tested by the numerical method using the characteristics of method for a wide range of train speeds. The results show that the maximum pressure gradient of compression wave can be considerably reduced by the tunnel entrance hood. Optimum hood shape necessary to reduce the pressure transients and impulsive noise was found to be of an abrupt type hood with its cross-sectional area 2.5 times the tunnel area. It is believed that the current results are highly useful in predicting the effects of entrance hoods and in choosing the shape of proper hood.

  • Accurate estimation of the first arrival travel time is an essential task to obtain a high resolution velocity tomogram. Accuracy of the travel time estimation may be influenced by two factors; geological and mechanical. A serious mechanical factor is the source firing control problems. We found the control problems in the records generated by tome impulsive borehole sources. The problems are; irregular firing control and uncertainty in estimation of the absolute firing-times shown in records. Definitely, the time difference will introduce an error to the first arrival times, and accordingly; it will cause some distortion in the resulting velocity tomogram. A method to determine the firing time is suggested here. The method determines the optimum onset time by comparing the horizontal and the NMO velocity with various amount of delay time adjustment.

  • Objective: This study aimed to find out whether concern for children mediates the impact of parenting competence on the anger expression of mothers with young children. Methods: Subjects consisted of 219 mothers with children aged 3 to 6 years old attending kindergartens and daycare centers. The motehrs were given 3 rating scales about parenting competence, concerns about their children, and anger expression. The Parental Anger Scales measuring anger expression consisted of sub-factors such as situational anger, impulsive behavior, and difficulty of anger control. Results: Using the data collected, correlation analysis and the regression analysis procedure by Baron & Kenny(1968) were conducted; the significance of the mediating effects was verified by the Sobel test. First, the study found that there were significant positive correlations between mother's parenting competence, concern about children, and anger expression. Second, mothers' concern about their children had partial mediating effects on the relationships between parenting competence and overall anger expression, situational anger and impulsive behavior, and a complete mediating effect on the relationship between parenting competence and difficulty with anger control. Conclusion/Implications: These results were discussed in terms of the approach and content of parent education to help parents with young children control their anger.
