  • Busan port, which had ranked at 3rd busiest port following Singapore and Hong Kong in 2002, has been nudged out of 5th place. Growth of China ports threatens Korea ports to be a hub port in Far East Asia. Therefore, Korea ports are needed to establish competitive strategies to overcome a crisis of local ports. In this paper, the question, 'Who is my competitor?' is examined There is a different aspect between this work and many studies that has been done before, because the fore studies focused on the competitive factors or port efficiencies. Above all, the meaning of competition among ports has been summarized through existing literatures. Next. the competition structure among ports is researched, based 0/1 import-export traffic of five local ports including Busan.

  • Rapid and accurate detection methods for Colletotrichum coccodes, an anthracnose pathogen of pepper and tomato, were developed using PCR. A specific primer set, coccoTef-F/coccoTef-R, which was constructed by analyzing tef-$1{\alpha}$ genes from 13 species and 22 strains of Colletotrichum, could specifically detect C. coccodes at a level of 10 ng by conventional PCR method and at 10 pg by real-time PCR. The PCR-based methods were also capable of detecting C. coccodes in pepper and tomato seeds artificially infected with the pathogen. The developed PCR methods can be applied for rapid and accurate inspection of C. coccodes in the seeds intended for export or import.

  • Compared to other North African countries, Tunisia has reached a significant level of fish consumption. The only relevant historical dimension of aquaculture in Tunisia are traditional lagoon management (80,000 ha of lagoon and coastal lakes) and culture of shellfish. Semi-intensive and intensive cultures are relatively new concepts in Tunisia and only recently also the public sector is involved. The Tunisian fishing industry has expanded over the last 20 years and annual catches at present are more than four times those registered in mid-fifties. Production of the year 2007 reached 105 thousand tons against 111 thousand tons during the same period of 2006 thus recording a fall of 5%. Unfavorable weather conditions mainly during the last quarter year had the effect to reduce the number of days out at sea. Exports reached 24.3 thousand tons for one value 240.5 MD against respectively 22.2 thousand tons and 234.1 thus recording MD at the end of the past year a rise of 9% in volume and from 3% in value. Commercial value such as shellfish - consequence of one regression of the production - with in parallel raises blue fish exports. The imports were stabilized in volume of 39.1 thousand tons and increased from 6% in value with respectively 67.4 MD in 2007 against 63.7 MD at the end of 2006. The importation in larger quantities of intended fish to the fattening of tuna in floating cages explains partly this rise. Nevertheless, the pay of balance import/export of produced fishing remains positive with a surplus of 173.1 MD against 170.4 MD in 2006.

  • The Manifestation Consolidation System(MFCS) has made a peat contribution to effective improvement of distribution industry. To save distribution expenses and the time needed to record reports, more simplified system is being used for which overlapped or unnecessary transmitted items in taking care of goods are decreased. To become a center of Asian distribution information, our country has to prepare for the base of the MFCS and use it effectively Therefore, for an effective management of the MFCS, this study examines a procedure that takes care of goods in the MFCS, presents a future-model of the MFCS, and analyses classification of tasks relating to export and import and titles of electronic documents. In conclusion, this study aims at presenting an interpretative base of the MFCS in a practical viewpoint rather than presenting its technical direction.

  • In this paper, using the gravity model, I examined that the port traffic in the port of Pusan have been influenced by GDP of South Korea, GDP of trading countries, an agreement on maritime transport, maritime transport charge and the local economic integration, etc. In view of the policy implication based on the result of analysis by the gravity model, the port traffic and the transshipment in the port of Pusan is positively influenced by GDP of South Korea, GDP of trading countries and countries on the way of main sea route(LINE). But it is negatively influenced by maritime transport charge. Especially, when a maritime transport charge goes up 1 percentage point, it is estimated that a transshipment decreases about 0.586-0.895 percentage point. So, a maritime transport charge was found to have more effect on a transshipment than a port traffic(except transshipment).

  • The purpose of this paper is to verify the two problems(normalization for the different inputs and outputs data, translation invariant for the negative data) which will be occurred in measuring the seaport DEA(data envelopment analysis) efficiency. The main result is as follow: Normalization and translation invariant in the BCC model for measuring the seaport efficiency by using 26 Korean seaport data in 1995 with two inputs(berthing capacity, cargo handling capacity) and three outputs(import cargo throughput, export cargo throughput, number of ship calls) was verified. The main policy implication of this paper is that the port management authority should collect the more specific data and publish these data on the inputs and outputs in the seaports with consideration of negative(ex. accident numbers in each seaport) and positive value for analyzing the efficiency by the scholars, because normalization and translation invariant in the data was verified.

  • To support cross potential array and direct potential array, the array for leakage detection of all kinds of water facilities is proposed and it is named as the D-Lux array. The D-Lux array data are arranged to a coloured matrix and it is called the D-Lux view. Low potential difference of anomalous zone shown in D-Lux view implies the indication of leakage zone. Furthermore, for an intuitive interpretation of D-Lux array, equipotential distribution map is made by using D-Lux and direct potential array data. Equipotential distribution map makes us possible to predict import point, export point and the path of water leakage that we could have not anticipated in D-Lux view and the graphs. The water tank experiment and numerical analysis were carried out as preparatory experiment and the field explorations were conducted at a concrete weir and a fill dam. As a result, effective and specific detection of leakage path was possible for the concrete weir and the fill dam.

  • The major factors that threaten port operation are diversie. Coronavirus disease-19, (COVID-19), which has recently disrupted operations worldwide, is one of them. Port operation was completely stopped due to a confirmed coronavirus involving a Russian sailor in Gamcheon Port, Busan, Korea in 2020, resulting port closure due to the infectious disease outbreak. The port is a national infrastructure facility that controls most of Korea's import and export logistics, and it is absolutely necessary to secure resilience against threats such as infectious diseases. However, due to insufficient data, this study was undertaken to determine a cause-effect relationship of infectious diseases during the container port operation using system dynamics. In addition, the port's resilience against infectious diseases was measured in terms of productivity and cargo volume through simulation. The model built via simulation analysis can actually be used to measure the resilience of a port. In the event of an infectious disease outbreak at a port, a quarantine policy scenario can be implemented and the effect compared, thereby improving the resilience.

  • While major alliance container carriers in the post-corona era are enjoying the largest boom in history with their fleet reduction strategy, shippers companies are in a state of deteriorating import and export price competitiveness due to increased logistics costs, and forwarders who act for shipping companies' logistics services are also experiencing the burden of rising freight rates It is in a state of overheated competition and worsening profits for attracting shippers. For this purpose, research data, literature studies, statistical data and data from overseas specialized networks were used as prior research. Online surveys and telephone interviews were conducted, and as a result, four areas of cold chain (including perishable cargo), project logistics, UN procurement logistics, and dangerous goods logistics, which were found to be particularly in high demand, were analyzed to suggest entry strategies.
