Design of adaptive array antenna utilizing modified on-off algorithm and its real-time implementation on a general-purpose DSP (개선된 On-Off 앨고리듬을 이용한 적응 배열 안테나의 설계와 범용 DSP를 이용한 실시간 구현)

  • This paper presents a modified on-off algorithm based on the gradient method for providing the phase of each antenna element more accurately and simply compared to the conventional on-off algorithm. The sup4erisority of theproposed method is due to the fact that the proposed method finds the increase and decrease of the array output power more accurately by utilizing the gradient of array output power with respect to the instantaneous phase of array element. The array antenna adopting to the proposed method formsmaximum beam-pattern along the direction of the desired signal by aligning the phase of every antenna enement. The proposed method is applied to both linear and two-dimentional aray for analyzing the result. The capability of the real-time processing of the proposed technique is confirmed by implementing the proposed algorithm with TMS320C30 Evaluation Module. Since the computational load required to form the beam-pattern per snapshot is small, the proposed method is suitable for the mobile communication system of which the response must be fast. By the results obtained from the application of the proposed method to the CDMA mobile communication environment, it is vreified that the performance of the received signal is consideralbly improved.

A Study to Guarantee Minimum Bandwidth to TCP Traffic over ATM-GFR Service (ATM-GFR 서비스에서 TCP 트래픽의 최소 대역폭 보장에 관한 연구)

  • Guaranteed frame rate (GFR) service has been defied to provide minimum cell rate (MCR) guarantees for virtual connections (VCs) carrying Internet traffic in ATM networks and allow them to fairly share residual bandwidth. The simplest switch implementation mechanism to support the GFR service in ATM networks consists of the frame-based generic cell rate algorithm (F-GCRA) frame classifier and the early packet discard (EPD)-like buffer acceptance algorithm in a single FIFO buffer. This mechanism is simple, but has foiled to guarantee the same bandwidth as an MCR to a VC that has reserved a relatively large MCR. This paper applies the packet spacing scheme to TCP traffic to alleviate its burstness, so as to guarantee a larger MCR to a VC. In addition, the random early detection (RED) scheme is added to the buffer acceptance algorithm in order to improve fairness in use of residual bandwidth. Simulation results show that the applied two schemes improve a quality of service (QoS) in the GFR service for the TCP traffic.

  • A shot change detection technique is an important technique for effective management of video data, thus it requires an adaptive algorithm for various video sequences to detect an accurate shot change frames. In this paper, we propose an adaptive shot change detection algorithm using histogram mean of frames within extension sliding window. Our algorithm calculates a frame feature value using histogram and defines an adaptive threshold using an average of histogram mean of frames within the extension sliding window and determines a shot change by comparing the feature value and the threshold. We obtained better detection rate than the conventional methods maximally by 15% in the experiment with the same test sequence. We verified real-time operation of shot change detection in the hardware platform with low performance by implementing it on TVUS HM-900 PLUS model of Homecast. The Proposed algorithm can be useful in the hardware platform such as portable multimedia player(PMP) or cellular phone with low CPU performance.

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate a validity of control signal through a design of Exoskeleton Robot Arm's capable of intelligent recognition as a human arm's motion by using realtime processed data of generated EMG signals. By an intelligent algorithm, the EMG output value of human biceps and triceps muscles contraction can be recognized and used for the control over exoskeleton arm corresponding to human's recognition and judgement. The EMG sensing data of muscles contraction and relaxation are used as the input signal from human's body to operate the Exoskeleton Robot Arm thus copying human arm motion. An intelligent control of Exoskeleton Robot Arm is to design the analog control circuit which processes the input data, and then to manufacture an integrated control board. And then abstracted signal is passed by DSP signal processing, Fuzzy logic algorithm is designed for a accurate prediction of weight or load through the intelligent algorithm, and design an Exoskeleton Robot Arm to express a human's intention.

  • In this paper, an embedded system for face authentication, which exploits high-dimensional local binary pattern (LBP) descriptor and joint Bayesian algorithm, is proposed. We also present a feasible embedded system for the proposed algorithm implemented with a Raspberry Pi 3 model B. Computer simulation for performance evaluation of the presented face authentication algorithm is carried out using a face database of 500 persons. The face data of a person consist of 2 images, one for training and the other for test. As performance measures, we exploit score distribution and face authentication time with respect to the dimensions of principal component analysis (PCA). As a result, it is confirmed that an embedded system having a good face authentication performance can be implemented with a relatively low cost under an optimized embedded environment.

  • Enen though several GA-based optimization algorithms have been successfully applied to complex optimization problems in various engineering fields, GA-based optimization methods are computationally too expensive for practical use in the field of structural optimization, particularly for large- scale problems. Furthermore, a successful implementation of GA-based optimization algorithm requires a cumbersome and trial-and-error routine related to setting of parameters dependent on a optimization problem. Therefore, to overcome these disadvantages, a high-performance GA is developed in the form of distributed hybrid genetic algorithm for structural optimization on a cluster of personal computers. The distributed hybrid genetic algorithm proposed in this paper consist of a simple GA running on a master computer and multiple μ-GAs running on slave computers. The algorithm is implemented on a PC cluster and applied to the minimum weight design of steel structures. The results show that the computational time required for structural optimization process can be drastically reduced and the dependency on the parameters can be avoided.

  • Since Korea joined the ranks of the developed countries, the interests in people with disabilities are rising. In particular, as disabled people become more active, to improve the transportation vulnerable's the right of movement have been required more strongly. Thus each municipality has been various efforts to do this. In this study we provide a understanding of each local government authority status which associated with operation of special transport systems, a call-taxi for transportation vulnerable and investigate the implementation status of mobility support system for traffic vulnerable which provided with automatic vehicle delivery. Also, with identification of automatic vehicle delivery problems the system, we design and implement a best-effort automatic vehicle delivery algorithm to improve these problems. Algorithm proposed in this study actually applied to commercial system of local governments to resolve the existing problems and to check to operate normally. The results are expected to provide to more exact and faster automatic vehicle delivery to transportation vulnerable and to improve the convenience of transportation vulnerable's movement.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented path search system using GPS information in photo. The system extracts EXIF information included in a photo to get path information and performs path search by applying the shortest path algorithm with the use of GPS information out of information, which was extracted in this way. And then it shows the obtained path information on web by utilizing Yahoo Map API. For this, the system is designed using a method of extracting location information in a photo and path sorting through applying the shortest path algorithm. UI(User Interface) was implemented using Yahoo Map API. Based on that, we implemented path search service using photo file that is included GPS information.

  • The contention resolution algorithm with the limited packet delay time as well stable distribution as the packet delay time is proposed and implementes for improving the mean packet delay time in the network employing CSMA/CD as the access method. The implementation of node controller is based on IEEE 802.2 standard logical link control(LLC) and IEEE 802.3 standard medium access control(MAC). Some portion of IEEE 802.3 Standard MAC, and the Binary Exponential Back-off(BEB) algorithm is replaced by the proposed algorithm. From the view of normalized mean packet transmission delay time, the controller implemented here can be applicable to the office-automation system, and the factory-and laboratory-automation environment where the limited time criterion is very significant.

  • PSK(Phase Shift Keying) is useful because of the power and spectral efficient modulation. In this paper, no additional hardware will be needed to support various transmit mode in the suggested DSP scheme. We design and implement the synchronization algorithm for M-ary PSK(M=2, 4) demodulator based on DSP scheme, instead of complex analog PSK demodulator. TMS320C6203 is used as DSP. We check the all kinds of waveforms via the graph view window after software programming the emulation on the DSP tool. The result of implementation proves that demodulator using the suggested algorithm has equal performance with demodulator using analog circuits.
