This is a pilot study of machine learning based structural health monitoring system using flight data of composite aircraft. In this study, the most suitable machine learning algorithm for structural health monitoring was selected and dimensionality reduction method for application on the actual flight data was conducted. For these tasks, impact test on the cantilever beam with added mass, which is the simulation of damage in the aircraft wing structure was conducted and classification model for damage states (damage location and level) was trained. Through vibration test of cantilever beam with fiber bragg grating (FBG) sensor, data of normal and 12 damaged states were acquired, and the most suitable algorithm was selected through comparison between algorithms like tree, discriminant, support vector machine (SVM), kNN, ensemble. Besides, through neighborhood component analysis (NCA) feature selection, dimensionality reduction which is necessary to deal with high dimensional flight data was conducted. As a result, quadratic SVMs performed best with 98.7% for without NCA and 95.9% for with NCA. It is also shown that the application of NCA improved prediction speed, training time, and model memory.

This study was conducted to identify the factors affecting the problem solving ability in nursing students. Method: The subjects of this study were 226 nursing students from two universities located in G and C provinces. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Correlation Coefficient, and Multiple Regression Analysis. Results: As a result of multiple regression analysis, the significant predictors of problem solving ability of nursing students were critical thinking disposition(β=.490, p<.001) and self-directed learning ability(β=.355, p=<.014). Problem solving ability was explained 61.9% of variance in critical thinking disposition and self-directed learning ability. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that self-directed learning ability and critical thinking disposition in nursing students were the influential factor on problem solving ability. Therefore, the results of this study suggest that it is necessary to find ways to improve critical thinking disposition and self-directed learning ability in order to improve problem solving ability of nursing students, and it is considered to be useful as basic data for developing education programs to improve problem solving ability.

The aim of this study was to examine the impacts of pre-briefing using structured video simulations in the pre-hospital trauma care simulation-based education on simulation immersion, simulation confidence, and simulation satisfaction. For both the experimental group and the control group, orientations were conducted on the simulation environment. Subsequently, the experimental group watched a video of about 8 minutes, similar to the scenario situation, in which the goal and result of the training were presented. The control group, on the other hand, conducted a classical way of orientation related to the scenario during the same time period. In addition, the experimental group and the control group underwent simulation practice in the same situation for 12 minutes, and debriefing was performed for 40 minutes by the same research assistant. Afterwards, we measured the simulation immersion, confidence, and satisfaction of the participants. Data were analyzed using χ2 and independent t-test using the SPSS 22.0 program. It was found that the experimental group that conducted the pre-briefing using video had higher immersion and confidence than the control group. On the other hand, satisfaction was not significantly different between the two groups. The results indicate that pre-briefing using structured video was an effective educational method to increase simulation immersion and simulation confidence.
In this paper, we analyzed how oil price fluctuations affect stock price by industry using the non-parametric quantile causality test method. We used weekly data of WTI spot price, KOSPI index, and 22 industrial stock indices from January 1998 to April 2021. The empirical results show that the effect of changes in oil prices on the KOSPI index was not significant, which can be attributed to mixed responses of diverse stock prices in several industries included in the KOSPI index. Looking at the stock price response to oil price by industry, the 9 of 18 industries, including Cloth, Paper, and Medicine show a causality with oil prices, while 9 industries, including Food, Chemical, and Non-metal do not show a causal relationship. Four industries including Medicine and Communication (0.45~0.85), Cloth (0.15~0.45), and Construction (0.5~0.6) show causality with oil prices more than three quantiles consecutively. However, the quantiles in which causality appeared were different for each industry. From the result, we find that the effects of oil price on the stock prices differ significantly by industry, and even in one industry, and the response to oil price changes is different depending on the market situation. This suggests that the government's macroeconomic policies, such as industrial and employment policies, should be performed in consideration of the differences in the effects of oil price fluctuations by industry and market conditions. It also shows that investors have to rebalance their portfolio by industry when oil prices fluctuate.

This paper investigates the impact of fiber dispersion on the internal structure and mechanical strength of SiCf/SiC composites manufactured using spread SiC fibers. The fiber volume ratio of the specimen to which spread SiC fiber was applied decreased by 9%p compared to the non-spread specimen, and the resin slurry impregnated between the fibers more smoothly, resulting in minimal matrix porosity. In order to compare the fiber dispersion of each specimen, a method was proposed to quantify and evaluate the separation distance between fibers in composite materials. The results showed that the distance between fibers in the spread specimen increased by 2.23 ㎛ compared to the non-spread specimen, with a significant 42.6% increase in the distance between fiber surfaces. Furthermore, the 3pt bending test demonstrated a 49.3% higher flexural strength in the spread specimen, accompanied by a more uniform deviation in test data. These findings highlight the significant influence of SiC fiber dispersion on achieving uniform densification of the SiCf/SiC matrix and increasing mechanical strength.

Sunscreen is a product that protects against ultraviolet rays by blocking and scattering ultraviolet rays, and has now become a daily necessity beyond cosmetics. Applying sunscreen is a common and easy way to prevent skin damage caused by ultraviolet rays. Due to its significance, the evaluation of sunscreen has evolved since its regulation by the FDA in 1978, progressing to standardized methods established by ISO. Additionally, to assess the loss of sunscreen due to activities such as water exposure or sweating, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in Korea and ISO have established protocols for evaluating the water-resistant sun protection factor (SPF). However, existing evaluations of water resistance have been mainly confined to test methods involving plain water, and methods accounting for the impact of seawater during activities like beach leisure, sports, and recreation are yet to be established. Based on the existing guidelines for testing the water-resistant UV protection index, this study compared the water-resistant UV protection index in water, artificial seawater (salt water) and natural seawater (sea water) to evaluate the UV protection index in real-world situations such as marine leisure, sports, and leisure activities. Through these results, we were able to compare the differences between water resistance sun protection index tests in ordinary water, artificial seawater, and natural seawater, and suggest a method for water resistance sun protection index tests using natural seawater.

Watershed runoff that is an important component of the hydrological processes has been significantly altered by climate variability and human activities in many watersheds around the world. It is important to investigate the impacts of climate variability and human activities on watershed runoff change for water resource management. In this study, using watershed runoff data for 109 middle-sized watersheds in Korea, the impacts of climate variability and human activities on watershed runoff change were quantitatively evaluated. Using the Pittitt test, the analysis period was divided into two sub-periods, and the impacts of climate variability and human activities on the watershed runoff change were quantified using the Budyko hypothesis-based climate elasticity method. The overall results indicated that the relative contribution of climate variability and human activities to the watershed runoff change varied by middle-sized watersheds, and the dominant factors on the watershed runoff change were identified for each watershed among climate variability and human activities. The results of this study enable us to predict the watershed runoff change considering climate variability and watershed development plans, which provides useful information for establishing a water resource management plan to reduce the risk of hydrological disasters such as drought or flood.

Background: Dental fear and anxiety are significant challenges in managing behavior in children. Oral administration of sucrose or sweet-tasting solutions has shown effectiveness in reducing procedural pain in infants and neonates. This study aimed to investigate whether pre-application of sucrose solution had an effect on minimizing pain perception during injection and to assess the potential impact of the child's age and sweet preference. Methods: A randomized control clinical trial was conducted on 60 children aged 3-9 years requiring buccal infiltration injections. Following parental consent, demographic data of the children were recorded. Sweet preferences was assessed using a modified forced-choice test. Children were equally and randomly allocated into study (sucrose) and control groups using a lottery method. Sucrose solution or distilled water, respectively, was applied to the lateral surface of the tongue for 2 min. Topical anesthetic was applied at the site of injection, followed by local anesthesia administration. The children rinsed their mouths thrice with water immediately after anesthetic injection. A video was recorded during injection which was then scored by three blinded examiners on the Sound Eye Motor (SEM) scale. The children also self-evaluated using Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale (WBFPS). Results: The mean SEM scores and WBFPS scores were analyzed using the Kruskall-Wallis test. The mean SEM score in the study group was 1.37 ± 0.61, compared to 3.17 ± 0.87 in the control group, showing a statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). Mean pain scores assessed by WBFPS in the study group were 0.60 ± 1.4, while in the control group, they were 6.27 ± 2.33, also showing a statistically significant difference (P < 0.001). Children with a sweet preference demonstrated a subjective reduction in pain perception. Conclusion: Application of sucrose before dental injections in children helps to minimize pain upon injection across all age groups.
Purpose: This study analyze the correlation between elections and wild Fire to provide information necessary for formulating wild fire prevention and response policies. Method: Data of the Forest Service and the Meteorological Administration were used to compare the occurrence and burned area of wild fires in election and non-election years. Statistical significance between the two groups was analyzed with an independent sample t-test, and MANOVA(multivariate analysis of variance) was used to evaluate the effects of temperature and humidity. Result: There was no statistical significance in the occurrence and burn area of wild fires between election and non-election years. However, analysis of the raw data indicated significantly greater damage in election years. MANOVA revealed that election status, temperature, and humidity did not significantly impact the occurrence and burn area of large wild fires. Conclusion: Wild fire occurrence and burned area were higher election years than non-election years, possibly due to election-related social factors. Thus, enhancing wild fire prevention and response policies in election years and considering weather factors and social activites is necessary.

Umbrella arch method (UAM) used for improving the stability of the tunnel ground condition has been widely applied in the tunnel construction projects due to the advantage of obtaining both reinforcement and waterproof. The purpose of this study is to develop the evaluation technique of the integrity of bore-hole in UAM by using a non-destructive test and to evaluate the possibility of being applied to the field. In order to investigate the variations of frequency depending on grouted length, the specimens with different grouted ratios are made in the two constraint conditions (free boundary condition and embedded condition). The hammer impact reflection method in which excitation and reception occur simultaneously at the head of pipe was used. The guided waves generated by hitting a pipe with a hammer were reflected at the tip and returned to the head, and the signals were received by an acoustic emission (AE) sensor installed at the head. For the laboratory experiments, the specimens were prepared with different grouted ratios (25 %, 50 %, 75 %, 100 %). In addition, field tests were performed for the application of the evaluation technique. Fast Fourier transform and wavelet transform were applied to analyze the measured waves. The experimental studies show that grouted ratio has little effects on the velocities of guided waves. Main frequencies of reflected waves tend to decrease with an increase in the grouted length in the time-frequency domain. This study suggests that the non-destructive tests using guided ultrasonic waves be effective to evaluate the bore-hole integrity of the UAM in the field.
