In this paper, we proposed the two-parameter model for predicting the residual strength in CFRP laminated composites subjected to high velocity impact and developed and formulated it based upon Cparino's by using the ratio of impact and the normalized residual strength. Critical indentation was obtained by the statical indentation tests. Impact tests were carried out through air-gun type impact equipment with the velocities varied 30-100m/sec. Projectiles were steel balls with 5 and 7mm in diameter. Test material was carbon/epoxy. The specimens were composed of [ .+-. 45 .deg. /0 .deg. /90 .deg. ]$\_$2/ and [ .+-. 45 .deg. ]$\_$4/stacking sequences and had 0.75$\^$T/*0.26$\^$W/*100$\^$L/(mm) dimension. Results from the proposed model were in good agreement with the test data. And failure mechanism due to high velocity impact is given here to examine the initation and deveolpment of damage by fractography and ultrasonic image system. The effects of the 0 .deg. -direction ply position and the amount to damage area on the residual strength are considered here.
The mechanical properties of polymeric composites are degraded under elevated temperatures due to the effect of temperature on the mechanical behavior of the resin and resin fiber interfaces. In this study, the effect of temperature on the impact response of the carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) was investigated at low-velocity impact (LVI) using a drop-weight impact tester machine. All the composite plates were fabricated using a vacuum infusion process with a stacking sequence of [45/0_2/-45/90_2]s, and a thickness of 2.9 mm. A group of the specimens was exposed to an environment with a temperature cycling at the range of -30 ℃ to 65 ℃. In addition, three other groups of the specimens were aged at ambient (28 ℃), -30 ℃, and 65 ℃ for ten days. Then all the conditioned specimens were subjected to LVI at three energy levels of 10, 15, and 20 J. To assess the behavior of the damaged composite plates, the force-time, force-displacement, and energy-time diagrams were analyzed at all temperatures. Finally, radiography, optical microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were used to evaluate the effect of the temperature and damages at various impact levels. Based on the results, different energy levels have a similar effect on the LVI behavior of the samples at various temperatures. Delamination, matrix cracking, and fiber failure were the main damage modes. Compared to the samples tested at room temperature, the reduction of temperature to -30 ℃ enhanced the maximum impact force and flexural stiffness while decreasing the absorbed energy and the failure surface area. The temperature increasing to 65 ℃ increased the maximum impact force and flexural stiffness while decreasing the absorbed energy and the failure surface area. Applying 200 thermal cycles at the range of -30 ℃ to 65 ℃ led to the formation of fine cracks in the matrix while decreasing the absorbed energy. The maximum contact force is recorded under cyclic temperature as 5.95, 6.51 and 7.14 kN, under impact energy of 10, 15 and 20 J, respectively. As well as, the minimum contact force belongs to the room temperature condition and is reported as 3.93, 4.94 and 5.71 kN, under impact energy of 10, 15 and 20 J, respectively.

An investigation was performed to study the matrix cracking and delamination in laminated composite plates due to transverse impact. A model was developed for predicting the initiation of the matrix cracking and the shape and size of impact-induced delamination in laminated composite plates resulting from the ballistic impact. The model consists of a stress analysis and a failure analysis. A transient finite element analysis which was based on the higher-order shear deformation theory was adopted for calculating the stresses inside the laminated composite plates during impact. A failure analysis was used to predict the initial intraply matrix cracking and the shape and size of the interface delamination in the laminates. As a results, a shear matrix cracking which was governed by the transverse interlaminar shear stress occured at the middle layer near the midplane of laminates and a bending matrix cracking which was governed by the transverse inplane stress occured at the bottom layer near the surface of laminates. In a thick laminates, a shear matrix cracking generated first at the middle layer of laminates, but in a thin laminates, a bending matrix cracking generated first at the bottom layer of laminates.
Impact performance of high-performance concrete (HPC) and SFRC at 28-day and 56-day under the action of repeated dynamic loading was studied. Silica fume replacement at 10% and 15% by mass and crimped steel fiber ($V_f$ = 0.5%- 1.5%) with aspect ratios of 80 and 53 were used in the concrete mixes. Results indicated that addition of fibers in HPC can effectively restrain the initiation and propagation of cracks under stress, and enhance the impact strengths and toughness of HPC. Variation of fiber aspect ratio has minor effect on improvement in impact strength. Based on the experimental data, failure resistance prediction models were developed with correlation coefficient (R) = 0.96 and the estimated absolute variation is 1.82% and on validation, the integral absolute error (IAE) determined is 10.49%. On analyzing the data collected, linear relationship for the prediction of failure resistance with R= 0.99 was obtained. IAE value of 10.26% for the model indicates better the reliability of model. Multiple linear regression model was developed to predict the ultimate failure resistance with multiple R= 0.96 and absolute variation obtained is 4.9%.

Analysis of the fracture surface is one of the most important methods for determining the cause of equipment structural failure. Whether structural failure is caused by impact or fatigue is necessary information in industrial fields. For ferrous and non-ferrous metal materials, two fracture phenomena are generated on the fracture surface: ductile and brittle fractures. In this study, machine learning predicts whether the fracture is based on ductile or brittle when structurural failure is caused by impact. The K-means algorithm calculates this ratio by clustering the brittle and ductile fracture data from a photograph of the impact fracture surface, unlike the existing method, which calculates the fracture surface ratio by comparison with the grid type or the reference fracture surface shape.
A two-dimensional particle flow cod (PFC) is used to study the effect of missile impact on the concrete target. For this purpose firstly calibration of numerical model was performed so that tensile strength of numerical models and experimental sample were the same. Secondly, a concrete model was built. The number of concrete layers and the angle of concrete layers related to horizontal axis were changed. Their numbers were 1, 2, 3 and 4. The angles were 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 90°. A semi-circle missile was simulated at top of the concrete layers. Its velocity in opposite side of Y direction was 100 m/s. three measuring circles were situated at the below the missile in the model to receive the applied force. The load in the missile and measuring circles together with failure pattern were registered at the beginning of the impaction. The results show that concrete layers number and concrete layers angle have important effect on the failure load while the failure pattern was nearly constant in all of the models.

The importance of understanding the response of structural composites to impact and CAI cannot be overstated to develop analytical models for impact damage and CAI strength predictions. This paper presents experimental findings observed from quasi-static lateral load tests, low velocity impact tests, CAI strength and open hole compressive strength tests using 3mm thick composite plates ($[45/-45/0/90]_{3s}$ - IM7/8552). The conclusion is drawn that damage areas for both quasi-static lateral load and impact tests are similar and the curves of several drop weight impacts with varying energy levels (between 5.4 J and 18.7 J) fallow the static curve well. In addition, at a given energy the peak force is in good agreement between the static and impact cases. From the CAI strength and open hole compressive strength tests, it is identified that the failure behaviour of the specimens was very similar to that observed in laminated plates with open holes under compression loading. The residual strengths are in good agreement with the measured open hole compressive strengths, considering the impact damage site as an equivalent hole. The experimental findings suggest that simple analytical models for the prediction of impact damage area and CAI strength can be developed on the basis of the failure mechanism observed from the experimental tests.

The article examines the impact response of the sandwich beam furnished by a novel bilayer core as inspired by the woodpecker's head architecture under different repeatedly exerted low-velocity impact loadings by employing the finite element package, ABAQUS. The sandwich beam forms four essential parts comprising bottom and top carbon fiber reinforced polymer laminates encasing bilayer core made of laterally arched solid hot melt adhesive material and aluminum honeycomb. Impact loadings are implemented repeatedly with a steel hemisphere impactor for various impact energies, 7.28 J, 9.74 J, and 12.63 J. Essentially, the commonly concentrated stresses at the impact region are regulated away by the arched core in all considered cases thus reducing the threat of failure. The sandwich beam can resist up to 5 continual impacts at 7.28 J and 9.74 J but only up to 3 times repeated loads at 12.63 J before visible failure is noticed. In the examination of several key impact performance indicators under numerous loading cases, the proposed beam demonstrates favorably up to 1.3-11.2 higher impact resistance efficacies compared to existing designs, therefore displaying an improvement in repeated impact resistance of the new design.

The purpose of this research is to propose a model for the prediction of residual strength. For this purpose, two-paremeter model based on Caprino's is developed and formulated by the ratio of indentation due to impact and normalized residual strength. The damage zone is considered only as an indentation. Impact tests are carried out on laminated composites by steel balls. Test material is carbon/epoxy laminate. The specimens are composed of $[{\pm}45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}]_2$ and $[\pm}45^{\circ}]_4$ stacking sequence and have $0.75^T{\times}0.26^W{\times}100^L(mm) dimension. A proposed model shows a good correlation with the experimental results And failure mechanism due to high impact velocity is discussed on CFRP laminates to examine the initiation and development of damage by fractography and ultrasonic image ststem. The effect of the unidirectional ply position on the residual strength is considered here.
Among many amplitude parameters, Kurtosis (4-th normalized moment of probability density function) is recognized to be the sensitive good parameter for machine diagnosis. Kurtosis has a value of 3.0 under normal condition and the value generally goes up as the deterioration proceeds. In this paper, simplified calculation method of kurtosis is introduced for the analysis of impact vibration with one sided affiliated impact vibration which occurs towards the progress of time. That phenomenon is often watched in the failure of such as bearings’ outer race. One sided affiliated impact vibration is approximated by one sided triangle towards the progress of time and simplified calculation method is introduced. Varying the shape of one sided triangle, various models are examined and it is proved that new index is a sensitive good index for machine failure diagnosis. Utilizing this method, the behavior of kurtosis is forecasted and analyzed while watching machine condition and correct diagnosis is executed.
