  • Hourly concentrations of $PM_1$, $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$, were investigated at Gangneung city in the Korean east coast on 0000LST October 26~1800LST October 29, 2003. Before the intrusion of Yellow dust from Gobi Desert, $PM_{10}$($PM_{2.5}$, $PM_1$) concentration was generally low, more or less than 20 (10, 5) ${\mu}g/m^3$, and higher PM concentration was found at 0900LST at the beginning time of office hour and their maximum ones at 1700LST around its ending time. As correlation coefficient of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$($PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_1$, and $PM_{10}$ and $PM_1$) was very high with 0.90(0.99, 0.84), and fractional ratios of $(PM_{10}-PM_{2.5})/PM_{2.5}((PM_{2.5}-PM_1)/PM_1)$ were 1.37~3.39(0.23~0.54), respectively. It implied that local $PM_{10}$ concentration could be greatly affected by particulate matters of sizes larger than $2.5{\mu}m$, and $PM_{2.5}$ concentration could be by particulate matters of sizes smaller than $2.5{\mu}m$. During the dust intrusion, maximum concentration of $PM_{10}$($PM_{2.5}$, $PM_1$) reached 154.57(93.19, 76.05) ${\mu}g/m^3$ with 3.8(3.4, 14.1) times higher concentration than before the dust intrusion. As correlation coefficient of $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$(vice verse, $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_1$) was almost perfect high with 0.98(1.00, 0.97) and fractional ratios of $(PM_{10}-PM_{2.5})/PM_{2.5}((PM_{2.5}-PM_1)/PM_1)$ were 0.48~1.25(0.16~0.37), local $PM_{10}$ concentration could be major affected by particulates smaller than both $2.5{\mu}m$ and $1{\mu}m$ (fine particulate), opposite to ones before the dust intrusion. After the ending of dust intrusion, as its coefficient of 0.23(0.81, - 0.36) was very low, except the case of $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_1$ and $(PM_{10}-PM_{2.5})/PM_{2.5}((PM_{2.5}-PM_1)/PM_1)$ were 1.13~1.91(0.29~1.90), concentrations of coarse particulates larger than $2.5{\mu}m$ greatly contributed to $PM_{10}$ concentration, again. For a whole period, as the correlation coefficients of $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_1$ were very high with 0.94, 1.00 and 0.92, reliable regression equations among PM concentrations were suggested.

  • In this paper, a headset multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) antenna for on-body application is proposed and the antenna performance with body effect and the impact on human body are investigated. The proposed MIMO antenna is composed of two planar inverted-F antennas(PIFA) above ground plane and an isolator located between the two antennas enhance the isolation characteristic. Simulation was carried to analyze the effect of human body on antenna performance when a human body is located in the near field of the antenna. According to the measurement result, the diversity performance of the proposed antenna can be considered good since ECC(Envelope Correlation Coefficient), which commonly indicates the performance of a MIMO antenna, remains below 0.1 over the ISM band. The measured SAR values for antennas 1 and 2 are 0.575 W/kg and 0.571 W/kg, respectively when 250 mW input power in engaged. These values satisfy the FCC guideline which states that the 1-g average SAR should be lower than 1.6 W/kg.

  • This paper address the characteristics of loading pollutants caused by the unit agricultural area to establish an efficient management method in NPS (non-point source). The relationship between rainfall and runoff shows good coefficient with 0.92, when the event which shows relatively long antecedent dry days is excepted. The impact of runoff volume on the runoff coefficient can be described by the rainfall intensity strongly. The pollutant EMCs (event mean concentrations) in runoff increased by the increase of antecedent dry days due to dry soil conditions. As the similar pattern of pollutant's loads such as TSS, BOD, COD, TN and TP, it is cleared that other pollutants can be removed when TSS is removed. Therefore the system using only runoff coefficients is not sufficient for the prediction of pollutant loads. It is necessary to consider soil conditions such as rainfall, antecedent dry day, antecedent rainfall etc. for the prediction system.

  • The purpose of this study is to quantitatively estimate the erosional properties for cohesive sediments on Keum Estuary. Then the spatial variation was evaluated, through analyzing and comparing the seasonal variation of the erosional properties in Keum Estuary with that of the erosional properties in the other sites. As erosional properties of cohesive sediments are also influenced largely by basic physico-chemical property of cohesive sediments themselves, the impact that the basic physico-chemical property has on the erosional properties is analyzed in this study. Erosional tests are performed under the condition of uniform beds. Total 8 times of tests using an annular flume are also conducted in a location, low times respectively by seasons: the fall, winter. Experimental results of erosional tests show that the critical shear stress for erosion varies in the range of $0.12{\sim}0.36N/m^2$ and the coefficient of erosion rate varies in the range of $120.91{\sim}6.72mg/cm^2{\cdot}hr$, over the corresponding bulk-density range $1.15{\sim}1.34g/cm^3$. Although the calculated parameters of erosional properties are remarkably different in quantity compared with those of other cohesive sediments(lake Okeechobee) and Kaolinite, their seasonal variabilities within Keum Estuary appear to be insignificant.

  • To prevent the drying-out of streams and to make effective use of stream water and groundwater, it is necessary to evaluate the impact of groundwater pumping on nearby streams. To this end, stream depletion due to groundwater pumping should be investigated in terms of various hydraulic characteristics of the aquifer and stream. This study used the Baalousha analytical solution, which accounts for stream-stage variation over time, to analyze stream depletion due to groundwater pumping for cases where the stream level decreases exponentially and recovers after the decrease. For conditions such as an aquifer transmissivity of 10~100 ㎡ d-1, storage coefficient 0.05~0.3, streambed hydraulic conductance 0.1~1.0 m d-1, stream-well distance 100~500 m, and stage recession coefficient 0.1~1.0 d-1, the contribution of stream water (the dimensionless ratio of stream water reduction rate to groundwater pumping rate) was analyzed in cases where stream level change was considered. Considering the effect of stream-stage recession, the contribution of stream water is greatly reduced and is less affected by the stream-depletion factor, which is a function of the stream-to-well distance and hydraulic diffusivity. However, there is no significant difference in stream depletion under constant- and variable-stage recovery after recession. These results indicate that stream level control can distribute the relative impacts on stream water and aquifer storage during groundwater pumping

  • The quality attributes of tomato fruit ($Lycopersicon$ $Esculentum$ Mill.) to treatments with 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) were studied. Harvested tomato fruit was treated one time at the initiation of storage or once-a-day during storage with $1{\mu}L/L$ 1-MCP at different storage temperatures, 12, 17, and $23^{\circ}C$. The results showed that both lower temperature and duration of 1-MCP treatment played an important role in ripening of tomato fruit. The once-a-day 1-MCP treatment was presented to be very effective in delaying quality changes of tomato fruit. The amount of chlorophyll and lycopene were measured to assess the impact of 1-MCP and temperature treatments on ripening, using a specific extinction coefficient absorbance technique. Storing tomato fruit at $12^{\circ}C$ resulted in a longer ripening period (color change) than tomato fruit stored at $17^{\circ}C$ and $23^{\circ}C$. 1-MCP treatment was very effective in retarding chlorophyll degradation and lycopene formation in the pericarp tissue of the tomato fruit at the different storage temperatures. The 1-MCP treatments affected the total chlorophyll content in different fruit tissues of the pericarp and placenta. Exposure of tomato fruit to 1-MCP gas at $12^{\circ}C$, using the once-a-day treatment, was highly effective in delaying pigment and color change.

  • This study was performed to offer the data for design of the seedling bed transfer equipment to make the automation of working process in a plant factory. The seedling bed transfer equipment pushing the seedling bed with bearing wheels on the rail for interconnecting each working process by a pneumatic cylinder was made and examined. The examined transfer force to push the seedling bed with a weight of 178.9 N by the pneumatic cylinder with length of 60 cm and section area of 5 $cm^2$ was measured by experiments. The examined transfer forces was compared with theoretical ones calculated by the theoretical formula derived from dynamic system analysis according to the number of the seedling bed and pushing speed of the pneumatic cylinder head at no load. The transfer function of the equipment with the input variable as the pushing speed $V_{h0}$(m/s) and the output variable as the transfer force f(t)(N) was represented as $F(s)=(V_{h0}/k)(s+B/M)/(s(s^2+Bs/M+1/(kM))$ where M(kg), k(m/N) and B(Ns/m) are the mass of the bed, the compression coefficient of the pneumatic cylinder and the dynamic friction coefficient between the seedling bed and the rail, respectively. The examined transfer force curves and the theoretical ones were represented similar wave forms as to use the theoretical formular to design the device for the seedling bed transfer. The condition of no vibration of the transfer force curve was $kB^2>4M$. The condition of transferring the bed by the repeatable impact and vibration force according to difference of transfer distance of the pneumatic cylinder head from that of the bed was as $Ce^{-\frac{3{\pi}D}{2\omega}}<-1$, where ${\omega}=\sqrt{\frac{1}{kM}-\frac{B^2}{4M^2}}$, $C=\{\frac{\frac{B}{2M}-\frac{1}{kB}}{\omega}\}$, $D=\frac{B}{2M}$. The examined mean peak transfer force represented 4 times of the stead state transfer force. Therefore it seemed that the transfer force of the pneumatic cylinder required for design of the push device was 4Bv where v is the pushing speed.

  • This study investigated the factors influencing how obesity stress and health belief impact weight control behavior among nursing students. Data were collected from nursing students in U city between September 1 and October 10, 2016 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression. Among the general characteristics of the subjects, gender (t=2.30, p=0.044) and health status (F=8.03, p<0.001) significantly influenced weight control behavior. There were negative correlations between diet therapy of weight control behavior (r=-0.26, p<0.001), exercise therapy (r=-0.25, p<0.001), behavior modification therapy (r=-0.29, p<0.001), and perceived barriers in health belief. In addition, acquiring special knowledge for weight control behavior showed positive correlations in obesity stress (r=0.42, p<0.001), perceived susceptibility (r=0.25, p<0.001) and perceived benefits (r=0.19, p<0.001). Furthermore, the significant factors influencing weight control behavior were perceived barriers (${\beta}=-0.30$, p<0.001) and obesity stress (${\beta}=0.20$, p<0.05) in health belief, and these factors explained 17.2% of the variance. Based on the study results, it is necessary to develop and apply effective educational programs that can influence weight control behavior through gender, health status, obesity stress and health beliefs, which determine weight control behavior of nursing students.

  • This study evaluates the prediction skills of stratospheric polar vortex intensification events (VIEs) in Global Seasonal Forecasting System (GloSea5) model, an operational subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) prediction model of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA). The results show that the prediction limits of VIEs, diagnosed with anomaly correlation coefficient (ACC) and mean squared skill score (MSSS), are 13.6 days and 18.5 days, respectively. These prediction limits are mainly determined by the eddy error, especially the large-scale eddy phase error from the eddies with the zonal wavenumber 1. This might imply that better prediction skills for VIEs can be obtained by improving the model performance in simulating the phase of planetary scale eddy. The stratospheric prediction skills, on the other hand, tend to not affect the tropospheric prediction skills in the analyzed cases. This result may indicate that stratosphere-troposphere dynamic coupling associated with VIEs might not be well predicted by GloSea5 model. However, it is possible that the coupling process, even if well predicted by the model, cannot be recognized by monotonic analyses, because intrinsic modes in the troposphere often have larger variability compared to the stratospheric impact.
