It is well known that composite laminates are easily damaged by low velocity impact. Low velocity impact damage characteristics and residual compressive strength of composite laminates used in light rail transit are investigated. The damage of composite laminates subjected to impact loading are occurred matrix cracking, delamination, and fiber breakage. The damage of matrix cracking and delamination are reduced suddenly the compressive strength after impact. The objectives of this study is to evaluate impact characteristics and the relationship between impact force and inside damage of composite laminates by low velocity impact loading. UT C-scan is used to determine impact damage areas by impact loading.
Objective: The aim of this study was to quantitatively analyze the impact characteristics of the lower extremity on strike pattern during running. Method: 19 young subjects (age: 26.53 ± 5.24 yrs., height: 174.89 ± 4.75 cm, weight: 70.97 ± 5.97 kg) participated in this study. All subjects performed treadmill running with fore-foot strike (FFS), mid-foot strike (MFS), and rear-foot strike (RFS) to analyze the impact characteristics in the lower extremity. Impact variables were analyzed including vertical ground reaction force, lower extremity joint moments, impact acceleration, and impact shock. Accelerometers for measuring impact acceleration and impact shock were attached to the heel, distal tibia, proximal tibia, and 50% point of the femur. Results: The peak vertical force and loading rate in passive portion were significantly higher in MFS and FFS compared to FFS. The peak plantarflexion moment at the ankle joint was significantly higher in the FFS compared to the MFS and RFS, while the peak extension moment at the knee joint was significantly higher in the RFS compared to the MFS and FFS. The resultant impact acceleration was significantly higher in FFS and MFS than in RFS at the foot and distal tibia, and MFS was significantly higher than FFS at the proximal tibia. In impact shock, FFS and MFS were significantly higher than RFS at the foot, distal tibia, and proximal tibia. Conclusion: Running with 3 strike patterns (FFS, MFS, and RFS) show different impact characteristics which may lead to an increased risk of running-related injuries (RRI). However, through the results of this study, it is possible to understand the characteristics of impact on strike patterns, and to explore preventive measures for injuries. To reduce the incidence of RRI, it is crucial to first identify one's strike pattern and then seek appropriate alternatives (such as reducing impact force and strengthening relevant muscles) on that strike pattern.

Instrumented impact tests and compression-after-impact(CAI) tests have been used to evaluate the effect of temperature on the low-velocity impact characteristics of phenolic matrix composites reinforced with various woven glass fabric. Impact characteristics and damage area in laminates are evaluated by C-scan. It is shown that the extent of damage and residual compressive strength of the laminates vary with energy level and impact test temperature. The damage area increases with increasing impact energy and temperature. All these observations indicate reduced impact damage resistance and damage tolerance of the laminates at elevated temperature.

Impact sounds, such as those created by footsteps, the dropping of an object or the moving of furniture, can be a source of great annoyance in residential buildings. Running and jumping impact sound by child and walking by adult are one of the most irritating noises in an apartment buildings. It's necessary to know that the impact power characteristics of real impact source in an apartment buildings. This study aims to investigate the impact power and impact time of normal walking and fast walking for 62 adults. It is shown that when the weight of the person increase, the maximum impact power increases. The impact power waveform for the adults walking varies for subjects walking types. The normal walking impact power lower than that of fast walking and impact time is higher than that of fast walking. The range of the impact power generated by adults walking is less than 1000 N.
In the previous test, the verification of the standard floor impact source was carried out comparing the physical characteristics with living impact sources. The result was appeared the validation of the standard impact source was very low because of differences of physical characteristics. This study aims to evaluate annoyance and loudness of standard impact source which is used for the measurement of floor impact sound, and to compare the annoyance and loudness of living impact sources which are produced in real life. The impact sources considered are tapping machine, tire and impact ball as standard sources, and nine real sources which were chosen from the existing researches. The result showed differences of annoyance and loudness between standard impact sources and living impact sources, which means the standard impact sources may rate the performance of floor system inappropriately. In the future, the rating method should be examined how the standard impact sources are similar with real sources in the point of rating the performance of floor system.

The characteristics of the four standard floor impact sources (impact ball, bang machine, tapping machine, modified tapping machine) and a human impact source (jumping children) were investigated. First, the mechanical impedance of each source were evaluated. Then, the impact force exposure level of each source were measured. The results showed that fundamental frequency and impedance produced by the impact ball are the most similar to those of the human impact source. The frequency characteristics of the impact ball were most similar to those of jumping children. Consequently, the impact ball more accurately reproduces human impact compared to the other standard impact sources. Therefore, the impact ball should be considered as the reliable impactor in evaluating floor impact noise.

The door stiffness is one of the important factors side impact. Generally, the researches have been conducted on the assembled door module. This study is to analysis the side impact characteristics for automotives door module. The impact characteristics have been determined by door module side impact test machine. To determine the initial, intermediate and peak crush resistances use the plot of load versus displacement and obtain the integral of the applied load with respect to the crush distances specified below for each door tested. The initial crush resistance is the average force required to deform the door through the initial 6 inches of crush. The intermediate crush resistance is the average force required to deform the door through the initial 12 inches of crush. The peak crush resistance will be directly obtained from the plot of load versus displacement since it is the largest force required to deform the door through the entire 18 inches crush distance. The data are used to determine if a specific vehicle or item of automotives equipment meets the minimum performance requirements of the subject Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard(FMVSS). FMVSS Static 214, Side impact protection, specifies performance requirements for protection of occupants in side impact crashes.

This paper is concerned with the numerical investigation of the transfer characteristics of the landing impact force exerted on court sport shoes to the sport surface condition. The reaction force occurred by the impact between court sport shoes and sport surface is absorbed by shoes to some extent, but the remaining impact force is to transfer the human body from the sole of a foot. We consider four surface conditions, asphalt, urethane, clay and wood court surfaces. For the dynamic response analysis, we construct a coupled leg-shoes FEM model and create the multi-layered composite surface model. The numerical simulations are performed by an explicit nonlinear finite element method. Through the numerical experiments, we examine the transfer characteristics of the landing impact force to the surface condition.

In this study, the dynamic impact analysis for the passenger air-bag(PAB) module has been carried out by using FEM to predict the dynamic characteristics of vehicle ride safety against head impact. The impact performance of vehicle air-bag is directly related to the design parameters of passenger air-bag module assembly, such as the tie bar bracket's width and thickness, respectively, However, the product's design of PAB module parameters are estimated through experimental trial and error according to the designer's experience, generally. Therefore, the dynamic analysis of head impact test of the passenger air-bag module assembly of automobile is needed to construct the analytical methodology At first, the FE models, which are consist of instrument panel, PAB Module, and head part, are combined to the whole module system. Then, impact analysis is carried out by the explicit solution procedure with assembled FE model. And the dynamic characteristics of the head impact are observed to prove the effectiveness of the proposed method by comparing with the experimental results. The better optimized impact performance characteristics is proposed by changing the tie bracket's width md thickness of module. The proposed approach of impact analysis will provides an efficient vehicle to improve the design quality and reduce the design period and cost. The results reported herein will provide a better understanding of the vehicle dynamic characteristics against head impact.
