An Analysis of Agricultural Infrastructure Status of North Korea Using Satellite Imagery (인공위성영상을 활용한 북한의 농업생산기반 실태분석)

  • In this study, Agricultural Infrastructures of Shincheon-gun in North Korea are investigated using Kompsat-2 and RapidEye satellite imagery. Target agricultural infrastructures are agricultural landuse, irrigation and drainage canals, dammed pools for irrigation and pumping stations. KOMPSAT-2 satellite imagery are use to investigate agricultural hydraulic structures and agricultural landuse are investigated by RapidEye Imagery. Geometric correction are performed using 28 GCP and QUAC method are used for atmospherical correction in all imagery. ISODATA clustering and naked-eye classification method are used for extracting agricultural hydraulic structures and Object-based analysis is applied to classifying the agricultural landuse. Extraction results of agricultural hydraulic structures and agricultural are presented and we suggest the applicability of satellite imagery to investigate agricultural infrastructures in North Korea.

Developing Metadata for Imagery and Gridded Data

  • Imagery and gridded data can be used as the sources of extracting important information and data layers in utilizing GIS. The existing metadata standard to distribute and to utilize the geographic information are mainly concentrated at the vector data and do not provide metadata components for imagery and gridded data. In this study, metadata components for imagery and gridded data have been investigated. Firstly, existing international metadata standards such as ISO and domestic standards of TTA have been analyzed. Based on th results, the draft metadata for imagery and gridded data have been proposed as the extensions of domestic metadata standard distribution. The draft metadata could contribute to build the basic standards to access and utilize proper imagery and gridded data fit to various application field, and this will be fundamental bases for activating GIS in public and private sectors.

Therapeutic Approach of Motor Imagery in Stroke Rehabilitation (뇌졸중 재활에 있어서 운동심상의 치료적 접근)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to propose a new therapy algorithm that combines motor imagery and physiotherapy as a physiotherapeutic clinical intervention technique that can stimulate the recovery of damaged physical function for patients with stroke. Methods: A variety of scientific research results related to motor imagery were reviewed and analyzed to investigate their applicability to physiotherapy in clinics. Results: As a new therapy algorithm for the therapeutic approach of motor imagery in stroke rehabilitation, a therapy algorithm that combines motor imagery with physiotherapy is proposed, which consists of three stages or steps: STEP 1 motor imagery familiarization, STEP 2 explicit learning stage, and STEP 3 implicit learning. Conclusion: The new therapy algorithm proposed in this study is expected to be a very useful clinical therapeutic approach for stimulating the recovery of damaged physical function in patients with stroke. It is believed that it will be necessary to confirm and standardize the effects of the therapeutic algorithm proposed in this study in the future by conducting diverse clinical studies.

  • KOMPSAT-2 satellite is being developed to be launched in 2004 expectingly. This paper is investigating application status of satellite imagery data using various domestic and foreign references such as journals and dissertations and seeing status of policy making and project implementation. In order to promote the application of KOMPSAT-2 imagery, its application ways in each field are presented. In addition, this paper suggests strategies to induce application of KOMPSAT-2 imagery.

An Implementation of Change Detection System for High-resolution Satellite Imagery using a Floating Window

  • Change Detection is a useful technology that can be applied to various fields, taking temporal change information with the comparison and analysis among multi-temporal satellite images. Especially, Change Detection that utilizes high-resolution satellite imagery can be implemented to extract useful change information for many purposes, such as the environmental inspection, the circumstantial analysis of disaster damage, the inspection of illegal building, and the military use, which cannot be achieved by low- or middle-resolution satellite imagery. However, because of the special characteristics that result from high-resolution satellite imagery, it cannot use a pixel-based method that is used for low-resolution satellite imagery. Therefore, it must be used a feature-based algorithm based on the geographical and morphological feature. This paper presents the system that builds the change map by digitizing the boundary of the changed object. In this system, we can make the change map using manual or semi-automatic digitizing through the user interface implemented with a floating window that enables to detect the sign of the change, such as the construction or dismantlement, more efficiently.

A building roof detection method using snake model in high resolution satellite imagery

  • Many building detection methods mainly rely on line segments extracted from aerial or satellite imagery. Building detection methods based on line segments, however, are difficult to succeed in high resolution satellite imagery such as IKONOS imagery, for most buildings in IKONOS imagery have small size of roofs with low contrast between roof and background. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to extract line segments and group them at the same time. First, edge preserving filtering is applied to the imagery to remove the noise. Second, we segment the imagery by watershed method, which collects the pixels with similar intensities to obtain homogeneous region. The boundaries of homogeneous region are not completely coincident with roof boundaries due to low contrast in the vicinity of the roof boundaries. Finally, to resolve this problem, we set up snake model with segmented region boundaries as initial snake's positions. We used a greedy algorithm to fit a snake to roof boundary. Experimental results show our method can obtain more .correct roof boundary with small size and low contrast from IKONOS imagery. The Effects of Subliminal Music with Balance Imagery Training on Balance and Concentration

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to estimate the effects of subliminal music with balance imagery training on balance and concentration. Methods: The participants were 45 seniors in an undergraduate school in Korea. The subliminal music with balance imagery training intervention was carried out for 20 minutes. Other interventions were also carried out for 20 minutes. 12 seniors(Group A) listened to subliminal music with balance imagery training, 12 seniors(Group B) listened to subliminal music, 11 seniors(Group C) received balance imagery training, and 10 seniors(Group D) had no intervention(Control group). The grid test is related to measured levels of concentration intensity. Romberg one legged standing test was carried out for 30 seconds. The collected data was analyzed by one-paired t test and one way ANOVA using the SPSS Windows 12 ver. program. Results: The major findings of this study were as follows: Concentration levels of Group A and C improved, and balance levels of Group C and D improved. There was a statistically significant decrease in concentration between Group A and B, Group A and C after intervention. Conclusion: These findings suggest that listening to subliminal music with balance imagery training may be useful in managing concentration in seniors. So it provides basic information for further concentration on improving education on music with balance imagery training.

The Effect of Pleasant Guided Imagery on Vital Signs of Old Women (지시적 심상요법이 농촌노인의 활력증후에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to test the effect of pleasant guided imagery on the vital signs of elderly. Method: The subjects of this study were 15 elderly women. Collecting data were blood pressure, pulse rate, body temperature, the degree of imagination and relaxation. Data were analyzed using SPSS PC+ program with percentage, paired t-test. Result: After practicing of pleasant guided imagery, systolic blood pressure and pulse rate were significantly lowered than before practicing of pleasant guided imagery. After practicing of pleasant guided imagery, Diastolic blood pressure and body temperature were not significantly changed. After practicing of pleasant guided imagery, the degree of imagination and relaxation were relatively higher in old women. Conclusion: Pleasant guided imagery can be used for elderly patients with hypertension. And it can be used to promote relaxation of elderly with stress.

Effect of Short Foot Exercise Using an Imagery Technique on Chronic Ankle Instability (심상 기법을 이용한 단축발 운동이 만성 발목 불안정성에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose : This study was aimed at investgating the effect of short foot exercise(SFE) using an imagery technique on chronic ankle instability(CAI). Methods : Twenty subjects with chronic ankle instability were selected by using the Cumberland ankle instability tool. They were randomly assigned to one of two groups(10 in each group) : namely the short foot exercise group and imagery technique group. The short foot exercise group performed short foot exercise for 6 weeks(3 times a week, 15 min per session). The imagery technique group performed short foot exercise(3 times a week, 15 min per session) and the imagery technique(3 times a week, 5 min per session) for 6 weeks. We measured chronic ankle instability, balance and threshold of vibration sensation before and after exercise by using the Cumberland ankle instability tool, Biodex Balance System and VSA-II, respectively. Results : We found statistically significant differences in cumberland ankle instability tool, balance and threshold of vibration sensation between the groups(p<.05). Conclusion : We confirmed the effect of short foot exercise using an imagery technique. Thus, we thought these results could be used as basic data and reference for musculoskeletal therapy or intervention using an imagery technique.

A Study of Clothing Imagery emerging from Shakespeare's Drama I -Focusing on King Lear I (Shakespeare 희곡작품에 나타난 복식 이미저리 연구 I-"King Lear"를중심으로)

  • The purpos대 f this research was to figure out clothing imagery underlying Shakepeare's King Lear and transfer it into actual stage costume. Three steps were taken in order to achieve the purpose . The first step exemined theoretical background of the Shakepeare's imagery. The second step reviewed a wide spectum of stage costume used in the last four centuries. The final step was to design and produced actual stage costume focusing on Lear, while considering clothing imagery drawn from the previous steps. King Lear contained rich clothing imagery which could contrast the relationship between material and spirit. In particular, it shed light on the contrast between Lear's divesting and Edgar's wearing and denoted that wearing and divesting processes were closely related to spiritual and status changes. A review of stage costume used for four centuries was prepared in order to understand how clothing imagery was applied in producing stage costume. It was found that their stage costume was reflecting clothing imagery captured from the analysis of king Lear. On the basis of this review, this research presented Lear's stage costume which applied clothing imagery drawn from King Lear. In producing stage costume , actual stage costume used Elizabethan fashion as its basic color and pattern. It also utilized modern clothing production techniques and ornaments acceptable in these days. As Lear was depicted as a character who underwent spiritual and status changes in the process of divesting , his costume was produced in line with this clothing imagery (i.e., divesting). The long journey of reviewing and analyzing King Lear from a stand point of clothing reassured us, on the one hand, the importance of stage costume. On the other hand, it established the groundwork for developing the methodology of fashion design by applying clothing imagery drawn from literature to design and production of stage costume.
