  • To know the delivery effect and the disagree problem of an image meaning for an independent film, we analyzed the understanding level and problem of the film focused the self-producted "The way". The results which applied an interview question to general undergraduates and film major postgraduates, they admitted the film as an artistic film. But it was difficult for the film to delivery an image meaning to general spectator. Also they couldn't understand completely the film messages without having the entire acknowledge of movie. Namely, the film has been failed a spectator mobilization, because it had a strong mania propensity. Moreover, film-major specialists couldn't stand the correct understanding of the film without explaining the planning intention and the synopsis. Most people presented the opposite opinion about the sympathy of an image meaning.

Design Factor and Formative Characteristic on Korean Aesthetic in Fashion (패션에 나타난 한국미의 조형성과 디자인 요소)

  • The purpose of this study is to help understanding of Korean fashion image by studying of design factor and formative characteristic. The methods of this study are the study of academic literatures as well as practical study through the analysis of case studies about actual works. The summary of this study's results is like followings. First, Perspectives seeing formative characteristic on Korean fashion image are Shape with a line, color, material, pattern, accessories. Second, Design factors deciding Korean fashion image are pattern, then in order of shape, color, material, accessories. Third, In results on design factor deciding Korean fashion image, when fashion designers focus on pattern, pattern is focused on without regard for other design factor. But color and material are accompanied by other design factor in expressing Korean fashion image. As fashion design point expressing Korean astetic, use of pattern is minimized other design factor, color and material are used with other design factor, then Korean fashion image will come out more than other time else. If We develop Korean fashion design to concentrate on shape and pattern, Korean fashion culture will be known to world people and beautiful value of Korean fashion will be handed effectively.

  • Image compression is the application of Data compression on digital images. The (DCT) discrete cosine transform is a technique for converting a time domain to a frequency domain. It is widely used in image compression. First, the image is divided into 8x8 pixel blocks. Apply the DCT to each block while processing from top to bottom from left to right. Each block is compressed through quantization. The space of the compressed block array constituting the image is greatly reduced. Reconstruct the image through the IDCT. The purpose of this research is to understand compression/decompression of images using the DCT method.

  • This study intends to provide a beneficial foundation which can aid our understanding of how a clothing consumer group can be classified according to the clothing buying motives, and what differences are there about the importances store image attribute among them and how consumer's preferences to the store image are shown differently among them and ultimately, some concrete data which can be useful in establishing efficient store image strategies for clothing stores. 484 subjects were gathered through convenience sampling method and, for data analysis, cronbach' ${\alpha}$, frequency, percentage, mean, ${\chi}^2$-text, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan Multiple Range Test, Factor Analysis, Cluster Analysis were conducted. the results are as follows; 1. three kind of factors in the clothing buying motives were determined for analysis of consumers group and by which it was revealed as to be significant for us to classify them three subdivisions; those of fashion pursuit group, self display group, financial utilitarian group. 2. Importance on store image attribute was revealed that Ewha students regarded quality, price, more important factors than others. 3. Store image preferences show significantly when concerned with quality, price, fashion, impression and age of store personnel, convenience for exchanging and returning goods, credit, delivery and repair, mailing of catalogue and discount coupon, bightness of store among consumer groups.

  • Image segmentation is the process where an image is segmented into regions that are set of homogeneous pixels. The result has a ciritical effect on accuracy of image understanding. In this paper, an Markov random field (MRF) image segmentation is proposed using genetic algorithm(GA). We model an image using MRF which is resistant to noise and blurring. While MRF based methods are robust to degradation, these require accurate parameter estimation. So GA is used as a segmentation algorithm which is effective at dealing with combinatorial problems. The efficiency of the proposed method is shown by experimental results with real images and application to automatic vehicle extraction system.

Voice and Image: A Pilot Study (음성과 인상의 관계규명을 위한 실험적 연구)

  • When we hear someone's voice, even without having met the person before, we usually make up a certain mental image of the person. This study aims at investigating the relationship between the voice and the image information carried within the voice. Does the mental picture created by the voice closely reflect the real image and if not, is it related with the real image at all\ulcorner To answer the first question, a perception experiment was carried out. Speech samples reading a short sentence from 8 males and 8 females were recorded and pictures of subjects were also taken. Ajou University students were asked to participate in the experiment to match the voice with the corresponding picture. Participants in the experiment correctly match 1 female voice and 4 male voices with their corresponding pictures. However, it is interesting to note that even in cases of mismatch, the results show that there is a very strong tendency. In other words, even though participants falsely match a certain voice with a certain picture, majority of them chose the same picture for the voice. It is the case for all mismatches. It seems that voice does give the listener a certain impression about physical characteristics even if it might not be always correct. By showing that there is a clear relationship between voice and image, this study provides a starting point for further research on voice characteristics: what characteristics of the voice carry the relevant information\ulcorner This kind of study will contribute toward the understanding of the affective domain of human voice and toward the speech technology.

Constructivism in Smart Tourism Research: Seoul Destination Image

  • This paper specifically delineated the methodological application of constructivism in smart tourism studies. It explained what constructivism is and how this methodology could be applied in the study of smart tourism. In this study, residents of Seoul participated in constructivist research using the Q method to identify their subjectivities toward Seoul based on photographs most commonly found in tourism promotional material. Residents are concerned with good governance and cultural integrity, and they are aware of their role as stakeholders in tourism in their communities. However their potential contribution to destination image formation has been usually overlooked by researchers and marketers. Three clusters of subjectivities were revealed after 42 photographs of Seoul were sorted by 37 respondents. The results show how respondents perceived Seoul's destination image. The three clusters agreed that symbolic monuments were the key representations of Seoul. The paper recommends that tourism marketers and policy makers should focus on understanding and coordinating with residents' perceived image of Seoul as a destination when planning and decision making, especially in promoting Seoul as a destination market. This study, in conjunction with other constructivist research offers insight into how destination image is, especially with the rise of smart tourism, a complex social construction.

New Evaluation System of Cosmetic Effects on Morphology of Skin Surface Using TSRLM with Image Analyser

  • Image analyser was used to understand the condition of skin surface and to evaluate the efficacy of cosmetic treatment. It was unsatisfactory to analyse skin surface structure although several methods using image analyser had been presented. We developed the new system composed of image analyser and Tandem Scanning Reflected Light Microscope (TSRLM) having the remarkable optical sectioning property as image input device. By using this new system, we quantitatively measured the change of skin surface, the depth and width of furrow in micron unit, resulted by cosmetic treatments. And also three dimensional image of skin was reconstructed with serial sectioned images, which were captured through TSRLM, for better understanding of the effect of cosmetic treatment. It was found that skin relief was more easily understood and the change of skin surface caused by cosmetic treatment was more accurately measured by using this system. In addition, we was also aware of the possibility of in vivo direct measurement of skin furrow without replica. It was conceivable that our system could be applicable for study of cosmetic effects further.

Photorealistic Ray-traced Visualization Approach for the Interactive Biomimetic Design of Insect Compound Eyes

  • In this study, we propose a biomimetic optical structure design methodology for investigating micro-optical mechanisms associated with the compound eyes of insects. With these compound eyes, insects can respond fast while maintaining a wide field of view. Also, considerable research attention has been focused on the insect compound eyes to utilize these benefits. However, their nano micro-structures are complex and challenging to demonstrate in real applications. An effectively integrated design methodology is required considering the manufacturing difficulty. We show that photorealistic ray-traced visualization is an effective method for designing the biomimetic of a micro-compound eye of an insect. We analyze the image formation mechanism and create a three-dimensional computer-aided design model. Then, a ray-trace visualization is applied to observe the optical image formation. Finally, the segmented images are stitched together to generate an image with a wide-angle; the image is assessed for quality. The high structural similarity index (SSIM) value (approximately 0.84 to 0.89) of the stitched image proves that the proposed MATLAB-based image stitching algorithm performs effectively and comparably to the commercial software. The results may be employed for the understanding, researching, and design of advanced optical systems based on biological eyes and for other industrial applications.

Heterotopia images of fashion space represented on Instagram - Focusing on the case of Ader Space in Korea -

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the concepts of heterotopic image and fashion space, and the characteristics of fashion space and images from the perspective of fashion brands and users. This study examines the evolution of fashion space and consumers with it, based on Foucault's theory of heterotopia, which refers to spaces that blend contradictory features not typically found within a single physical structure. This is accomplished by employing a single case study of Ader Error's Ader Space, a Seoul-based brand known for its unique approach to presenting and communicating fashion. Based on an analysis of Instagram posts of Ader Error along with the hashtag searches "aderspace" and "adererror", this study categorizes heterotopia from the perspective of fashion brands into three properties: fashion space as a medium for selling fashion products; fashion space as getaway to hybrid fashion practices; and fashion space as an illusionary place to experience fashion. From the user perspective, the heterotopic image of Ader Space portrayed on Instagram is characterized by the image of fashion products in an extraordinary fashion space, the image of a fashion space beyond space and time, and the image of exposing the hidden and the illusion-compensation of fashion space. This study contributes to a heightened understanding of the evolutionary concept of the fashion space.
