  • This paper presents the design and implementation of an embedded image stabilization control system for a mobile phone with a built-in camera. Image stabilization is a family of techniques for reducing image blur resulting from minute camera shake due to hand-held shooting, thereby allowing the use of shutter speeds slower than values normally required to obtain sharp images. A mechanical image stabilizer mechanism developed for a camera mobile phone is introduced and a digital control system as a part of the image stabilization system is designed and implemented on an 8-bit microcontroller with integer arithmetic in C. This paper focuses primarily on issues that need to be taken into consideration for fixed-point implementation of the digital controller. Several experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the implemented image stabilization control system.

  • This paper proposes an image stabilization method for arbitrary disturbances, such as rotation, translation and zoom movement, using the SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform). In addition, image stabilization was carried out using the image division and merge technique when moving objects appear on the scene. Finally, the experimental results showed that the suggested image stabilization scheme produced superior performance compared to the previous ones.

  • As high quality image is required for digital cameras in recent use, the image stabilization technique has drawn much attention to prevent image degradation from shaky disturbance by users. In this paper, the optical image stabilization (OIS) system for DSLR (Digital Single Lens Reflex) camera is considered. First, the analytic model of an OIS system is presented to demonstrate the mechanism of image destabilization due to unknown disturbance that causes blurry images on CCD sensor. Then, to enhance the stabilization performance, a sliding mode control based on the min-max nonlinear control is introduced. Through the experiments and simulations, the effectiveness of the proposed method will be verified.

  • This paper proposes a simple digital image stabilization(DIS) algorithm for roll motion, which has not been compensated in the 2-axes mechanical stabilization system, using aero-crossing of the rotational motion vectors. The 2-axes stabilization system cannot stabilize rolled images, which causes the deteriorated performance of the object detection and recognition. In this paper, we propose the rotational motion stabilization algorithm which estimates and compensates global motion in terms of rotational center and rotational angle. Both the synthetic images with undesirable rotational disturbance and the real images from 2-axes stabilization system are used to evaluate the proposed algorithm. The results show that our proposed algorithm suppresses the undesirable rotational disturbance effectively.

  • This paper proposes a hybrid image stabilizing system which uses both optical image stabilizing system based on EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) and digital image stabilization based on SURF (Speeded Up Robust Feature). Though image information is one of the most efficient data for object recognition, it is susceptible to noise which results from internal vibration as well as external factors. The blurred image obtained by the camera mounted on a robot makes it difficult for the robot to recognize its environment. The proposed system estimates shaking angle through EKF based on the information from inclinometer and gyro sensor to stabilize the image. In addition, extracting the feature points around rotation axis using SURF which is robust to change in scale or rotation enhances processing speed by removing unnecessary operations using Hessian matrix. The experimental results using the proposed hybrid system shows its effectiveness in extended frequency range.

  • Video Stabilization For Vehicular Applications Is An Important Method Of Removing Unwanted Shaky Motions From Unstable Videos. In This Paper, An Improved Video Stabilization Method With Image Stitching Has Been Proposed. Scale Invariant Feature Transform (Sift) Matching Is Used To Calculate The New Position Of The Points In Next Frame. Image Stitching Is Done In Every Frame To Get Stabilized Frames To Provide Stable Video As Well As A Better Understanding Of The Previous Frame'S Position And Show The Surrounding Objects Together. The Computational Complexity Of Sift (Scale-Invariant Feature Transform) Is Reduced By Reducing The Sift Descriptors Size And Resticting The Number Of Keypints To Be Extracted. Also, A Modified Matching Procedure Is Proposed To Improve The Accuracy Of The Stabilization.

  • In many moving object detection problems of an aerial video, accurate and robust stabilization is of critical importance. In this paper, a novel accurate image alignment algorithm for aerial electronic image stabilization (EIS) is described. The feature points are first selected using optimal derivative filters based Harris detector, which can improve differentiation accuracy and obtain the precise coordinates of feature points. Then we choose the Delaunay Triangulation edges to find the matching pairs between feature points in overlapping images. The most "useful" matching points that belong to the background are used to find the global transformation parameters using the projective invariant. Finally, intentional motion of the camera is accumulated for correction by Sage-Husa adaptive filtering. Experiment results illustrate that the proposed algorithm is applied to the aerial captured video sequences with various dynamic scenes for performance demonstrations.

  • This paper presents realization and evaluation of digital image stabilization for roil motion. The proposed image stabilizer has been implemented on the DSP based hardware and DSP/BIOS software. The proposed image stabilizer is tested in the field. The results show good performance with the sufficient bandwidth. The proposed image stabilizer is combined with mechanical stabilizer and tested to evaluate whether that is feasible for 3-axis stabilization of tank sight system. The results also show food performance.

  • Electronic Image Stabilization(EIS) is widely used as a technique for correcting a shake of an image. The case requiring the EIS function has been increased in high magnification thermal image observation on portable military equipment. Projection Algorithm(PA) for EIS is easy to implement but its performance is sensitive to the projection area. Especially, projection profiles of thermal image have very modest change and are difficult to extract image shifts between frames. In this paper, we proposed algorithm to extract a feature image for the thermal image and compared Block Matching Algorithm(BMA) with PA using our proposed feature image. When using our proposed feature image, BMA was simply implemented using FPGA's internal small memory. And we were able to obtain 30 % PSNR improved results compared to PA.
