  • Real-time image processing algorithms to detect position and orientation of rectangular type electronic components are developed. The position detection algorithm is implemented with the use of projection method which is insensitive to noise. Also dynamic thresholding method of projection is employed in order to distinguish between the boundary of a component and any marking on the component. The orientation is determined by Hough transform of boundary candidates of a component, which is obtained a priori by a simple edge detection method. For real-time processing of both position and orientation for a component which is not aligned well, parallel processing method of image data is proposed and tested in real-time.

  • This paper presents a new method which is calculated to use only three vanishing points in order to compute the dimensions of object and its pose from a single image of perspective projection taken by a camera and the problem of recovering 3D models from three vanishing points of box scene. Our approach is to compute only three vanishing points without this information such as the focal length, rotation matrix, and translation from images in the case of perspective projection. We assume that the object can be modeled as a linear function of a dimension vector ν. The input of reconstruction is a set of correspondences between features in the model and features in the image. To minimize each the dimensions of the parameterized models, this reconstruction of optimization can be solved by the standard nonlinear optimization techniques with a multi-start method which generates multiple starting points for the optimizer by sampling the parameter space uniformly.

  • This paper proposes super-resolution reconstruction algorithm for image enhancement. Super-resolution reconstruction algorithms reconstruct a high-resolution image from multi-frame low-resolution images of a scene. Conventional super- resolution reconstruction algorithms are iterative back-projection(IBP), robust super-resolution(RS)method and standard Papoulis-Gerchberg(PG)method. However, traditional methods have some problems such as rotation and ringing. So, this paper proposes modified algorithm to improve the problem. Experimental results show that this proposed algorithm solve the problem. As a result, the proposed method showed an increase in the PSNR for traditional super-resolution reconstruction algorithms.

  • In this paper, we propose a spatially adaptive image restoration algorithm using local statistics. The local mean, variance, and maximum values are utilized to constrain the solution space, and these parameters are computed at each iteration step using partially restored image. A parameter defined by the user determines the degree of local smoothness imposed on the solution. The resulting iterative algorithm exhibits increased convergence speed when compared to the non-adaptive algorithm. In addition, a smooth solution with a controlled degree of smoothness is obtained. Experimental results demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • Noncontact measuring methodology of 3-dimensional profile using CCD camera are very attractive because of it's high measuring speed and its's high sensitivity. Especially when projecting a grid pattern over the object, the captured image have 3 dimensional information of the object. Projection moire extract 3-D information with another grid pattern in front of CCD camera. However phase measuring profilometry(PMP) obtain similar results without additional grid pattern. In this paper, the projection moire are compared with the PMP mathematically, and it is shown that PMP can generate moire image with simple mathematical computations. Experimental works are also carried out showing the same results. It is shown that using a single gird pattern, moire image can be obtained directly without any mathematical operation when some conditions are satisfied.

Geometrical Reorientation of Distorted Road Sign using Projection Transformation for Road Sign Recognition (도로표지판 인식을 위한 사영 변환을 이용한 왜곡된 표지판의 기하교정)

  • In this paper, we describe the reorientation method of distorted road sign by using projection transformation for improving recognition rate of road sign. RSR (Road Sign Recognition) is one of the most important topics for implementing driver assistance in intelligent transportation systems using pattern recognition and vision technology. The RS (Road Sign) includes direction of road or place name, and intersection for obtaining the road information. We acquire input images from mounted camera on vehicle. However, the road signs are often appeared with rotation, skew, and distortion by perspective camera. In order to obtain the correct road sign overcoming these problems, projection transformation is used to transform from 4 points of image coordinate to 4 points of world coordinate. The 4 vertices points are obtained using the trajectory as the distance from the mass center to the boundary of the object. Then, the candidate areas of road sign are transformed from distorted image by using homography transformation matrix. Internal information of reoriented road signs is segmented with arrow and the corresponding indicated place name. Arrow area is the largest labeled one. Also, the number of group of place names equals to that of arrow heads. Characters of the road sign are segmented by using vertical and horizontal histograms, and each character is recognized by using SAD (Sum of Absolute Difference). From the experiments, the proposed method has shown the higher recognition results than the image without reorientation.

  • The development of projection technology produces series of discussions associated to various form of visual immersing possibilities by the way of projecting image directly to the obscure surface surrounded us. Besides, the significance can be found in terms of that this kind of image projection offers chance to citizens to enjoy high standard images and makes people consider media environment of city. Video art as the digital technology grafts penetrates formative space of city by projecting images. The certain thing about questions how the media has status in city is that media is now not existing for self neither for abstractly and virtual reality is existing in the general appearance of metropolis. This paper treats media environment of city and the meaning of image projection as from of video art in the city. It accesses about the meaning of video form visual art in big city- new reality, the virtual and the real, immersion and interactivity. And media reality of metropolis defines that there is not one major discourse in the gigantic text -metropolis rather they are different discourses each other simultaneously compatible in the gigantic text -metropolis and in fact, they affect each other and interact.

  • A FOV (field-of-view) of the HV-MSC (high voltage multi-scan CCD, $1024{\times}1024$ pixels) camera mounted in the post-column HV-GIF (high voltage gatan image filter) has been drastically enlarged by the projection lens current adjustment. An imaging area of the HV-MSC camera obtained at the lowest magnification (2,000x) is $112{\mu}m^2$ which corresponds to the recording area of the film at the magnification of 8,800x, while the achievable recording area is only $0.43{\mu}m^2$ at the same magnification without this technique. Ignoring the image distortion of less than 5%, we have designed an on-site reference graph to estimate projection lens currents for microscope magnifications above 8,800x, where the recording area on the HVMSC is same as that on the film.

Iterative Data Completion for Limited Angle Tomography using Filtered Backprojection (각도 제한 단층영상재구성을 위한 여현 역투사 기반 반복적 데이터 완결 기법)

  • When the range of projection angles is limited, tomographic reconstruction suffers from artifacts caused by incomplete data. One can consider a data completion technique, which estimates projection data at unobserved angles using a prior knowledge or mathematical exploration, but the result is often not improved; the improvement by the data completion often undermined by the artifacts by inaccurate estimation, In this paper, we propose an iterative method, which computes projection data at unobserved angles by using the current estimate on the image, links the computed projection data to the observed ones by using the consistence condition of Radon transform, and reconstruct the next estimate on the image by filtered backprojection. The proposed method does not require a prior knowledge on the image, and has much faster approximation rate than the expectation maximization method. The performance of the proposed method was tested through several simulation studies.

  • In general, mosaic blocks are used to hide some specified areas, such as human faces and disgusting objects, in an input image when images are uploaded on a web-site or blog. This paper proposes a new algorithm for robustly detecting grid mosaic areas in an image based on the edge projection. The proposed algorithm first extracts the Canny edges from an input image. The algorithm then detects the candidate mosaic blocks based on horizontal and vertical edge projection. Subsequently, the algorithm obtains real mosaic areas from the candidate areas by eliminating the non-mosaic candidate regions through geometric features, such as size and compactness. The experimental results showed that the suggested algorithm detects mosaic areas in images more accurately than other existing methods. The suggested mosaic detection approach is expected to be utilized usefully in a variety of multimedia-related real application areas.
