VR 영상콘텐츠 제작을 위한 컨버전스 포인트 임의조절 구현 (Implementation of Random Controlling of Convergence Point in VR Image Content Production)

  • 다양한 HMD(Head Mounted Display)의 등장으로 입체영상 제작은 VR(Virtual Reality)기술을 접목 가능하게 되었고 체감형, 몰입형 영상콘텐츠 제작의 활성화에 기여하고 있다. VR기반 영상콘텐츠는 애니메이션과 게임으로 시작하여 실사영상에 이르기까지 엔터테인먼트산업 전반으로 활용성을 넓혀가고 있으며 동시에 VR 영상콘텐츠 제작을 위한 솔루션 개발도 탄력을 받고 있다. 그러나 기존의 제작 솔루션 중 고정된 양안카메라 기반촬영은 사용자의 양안시차가 고정된다는 한계점을 가지고 있다. 이것은 제작자가 연출하고자 하는 표현을 제한할 뿐만 아니라 사용자입장에서의 시야조건이 고려되지 않아 입체감과 공간감을 충분히 느끼지 못할 수 있다. 본 논문은 실사 VR 영상콘텐츠 제작에서 발생하는 컨버전스 포인트(Convergence Point) 조절의 한계를 입체영상 제작의 후반작업 기술을 통하여 해결하고자 한다. 입체영상 후반작업에서 컨버전스 포인트 조절에 대한 유효성을 양안시차의 시각화를 통하여 분석하고 게임엔진에 적용하여 컨버전스 포인트가 사용자 임의로 조절 가능하도록 구현한다.

Efficient and Robust Correspondence Detection between Unbalanced Stereo Images

  • This paper presents an efficient and robust approach for determining the correspondence between unbalanced stereo images. The disparity vectors were used instead of feature points, such as corners, to calculate a correspondence relationship. For a faster and optimal estimation, the vectors were classified into several regions, and the homography of each region was calculated using the RANSAC algorithm. The correspondence image was calculated from the images transformed by each homography. Although it provided good results under normal conditions, it was difficult to obtain reliable results in an unbalanced stereo pair. Therefore, a balancing method is also proposed to minimize the unbalance effects using the histogram specification and structural similarity index. The experimental results showed that the proposed approach outperformed the baseline algorithms with respect to the speed and peak-signal-to-noise ratio. This work can be applied to practical fields including 3D depth map acquisition, fast stereo coding, 2D-to-3D conversion, etc.

Virtual Control of Optical Axis of the 3DTV Camera for Reducing Visual Fatigue in Stereoscopic 3DTV

  • In stereoscopic television, there is a trade-off between visual comfort and 3-dimensional (3D) impact with respect to the baseline-stretch of a 3DTV camera. It is necessary to adjust the baseline-stretch at an appropriate the distance depending on the contents of a scene if we want to obtain a subjectively optimal quality of an image. However, it is very hard to obtain a small baseline-stretch using commercially available cameras of broadcasting quality where the sizes of the lens and CCD module are large. In order to overcome this limitation, we attempt to freely control the baseline-stretch of a stereoscopic camera by synthesizing the virtual views at the desired location of interval between two cameras. This proposed technique is based on the stereo matching and view synthesis techniques. We first obtain a dense disparity map using a hierarchical stereo matching with the edge-adaptive multiple shifted windows. Then, we synthesize the virtual views using the disparity map. Simulation results with various stereoscopic images demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

알렉산더 맥퀸(Alexander Mcqueen) 작품의 그로테스크적 특성 (The Grotesque in the Work of Alexander McQueen)

  • This study explores grotesque characteristics that were raised as the Aesthetics of the Ugly and how it was featured in Alexander McQueen's arts. In a methodological approach, the study attempted the analysis of historical literature that was published both nationally and internationally, along with justifiable investigation using fashion/collection magazines such as Vogue, Gap and Internet search. The scope of this study ranges from 1996's Haute Couture and Pret-a-porter collection pieces modern, to date The results of this study are summarized as follows: The first grotesque characteristic present throughout Alexander Mcqueen's arts is that it featured horrifying images or evil motives with pointy heads or horns, dark colored dresses, silver accessories, Dracula, witches, skulls, soldiers of evil, death and sickness. Second, aversion was realistically portrayed by frightening objects, extreme intimacy and motives that signify death and closely relative to cruelty to human bodies. It also became visible with physical destruction of the bodies and dissecting of internal organs, etc. Thirdly, its expression of humor is out of common sense with distorted human bodies by intentionally overemphasizing certain portion of the clothes or body parts. It also featured strangely deformed bodies by ignoring the typical shapes of clothes, vague definition of gender and using of unusual objects. Forth, half-man and half-beast images are portrayed using various types of bird species or animals to Identify disparity. It further defined this image in the form of non-human cyborg by incorporating technology.

회전 평면경 영상의 단일 카메라 투영에 의한 거리 측정 (Depth Estimation Through the Projection of Rotating Mirror Image unto Mono-camera)

  • A simple computer vision technology to measure the middle-ranged depth with a mono camera and a plain mirror is proposed. The proposed system is structured with the rotating mirror in front of the fixed mono camera. In contrast to the previous stereo vision system in which the disparity of the closer object is larger than that of the distant object, the pixel movement caused by the rotating mirror is bigger for the pixels of the distant object in the proposed system. Being inspired by such distinguished feature in the proposed system, the principle of the depth measurement based on the relation of the pixel movement and the distance of object is investigated. Also, the factors to influence the precision of the measurement are analysed. The benefits of the proposed system are low price and less chance of occlusion. The robustness for practical usage is an additional benefit of the proposed vision system.

새로운 스테레오 정합 알고리즘 (A New Stereo Matching Algorithm)

  • 물체의 경계로부터 거리에 따라 다른 크기의 창을 사용함으로써 물체의 경계를 정확히 찾는 새로운 스테레오정합 알고리즘을 제안한다. 원 영상을 같은 크기의 작은 부분으로 나누고, 이 작은 영역들의 중앙 화소들의 시차를 구한 표본 시차 지도로부터 축소된 물체의 경계를 찾는다. 경계로부터의 거리에 따라 크기가 다른 창을 원 영상에 적용하여 시차를 구한다. 원 영상의 시차를 구할 때 작은 영역 내에 있는 화소들의 시차는 이미 구한 중앙화소의 시차와 유사하다는 기울기 제한 조건을 이용하였다. 실험결과로부터 제안한 알고리즘이 다른 알고리즘 보다 우수함을 확인하였다.

Fast Encoder Design for Multi-view Video

  • Multi-view video coding is an international encoding standard that attains good performance by fully utilizing temporal and inter-view correlations. However, it suffers from high computational complexity. This paper presents a fast encoder design to reduce the level of complexity. First, when the temporal correlation of a group of pictures is sufficiently strong, macroblock-based inter-view prediction is not employed for the non-anchor pictures of B-views. Second, when the disparity between two adjacent views is above some threshold, frame-based inter-view prediction is disabled. Third, inter-view prediction is not performed on boundary macroblocks in the auxiliary views, because the references for these blocks may not exist in neighboring views. Fourth, finer partitions of inter-view prediction are cancelled for macroblocks in static image areas. Finally, when estimating the disparity of a macroblock, the search range is adjusted according to the mode size distribution of the neighboring view. Compared with reference software, these techniques produce an average time reduction of 83.65%, while the bit-rate increase and peak signal-to-noise ratio loss are less than 0.54% and 0.05dB, respectively.

Fast Approach for Stereo Balancing Mapping Function

  • This paper presents an effective approach to minimize recursive computations for balancing stereo pairs by using disparity vector errors and its directional histogram. A stereo balancing function is computed from the correspondent pixels between two images, and a simple approach is to find the matching blocks of two images. However, this procedure requires recursive operation, and its computation cost is very high. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient balance method using structural similarity index and a partial re-searching scheme to reduce the computation cost considerably. For this purpose, we determine if re-searching for each block is necessary or not by using the errors and the directional histogram of disparity vectors. Experiment results show that the performance of the proposed approach can save the computations significantly with ignorable image quality degradation compared with full re-search approach.

Multi-view 영상 코딩에서 영상 개선 알고리듬 (An algorithm for the image improvement in the multi-view images coding)

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient multi-view images coding algorithm to find the optimal depth and texture from the set of multi-view images. The proposed algorithm consists of two consecutive steps, i) the depth estraction step, and ii) the texture extraction step, comparedwith the traditional algorithem which finds the depth and texture concurrently. The X-Y plane of the normalized object space is divided into traingular paatches and the Z value of the node is determined in the first step and then the texture of the each patch is extracted in the second step. In the depth extraction step, the depth of the node is determined by applying the block based disparity compensation method to the windowed area centered at the node. In the second step, the texture of the traingular patches is extracted from the multi-view images by applying the affine transformation based disparity compensation method to the traingular pateches with the depth extracted from the first step. Experimental results show that the SNR(Singnal-to- Noise Ratio) of images enconded by our algorithm is better than that of images encoded by the traditional algorithm by the amount about 4dB for for the test sets of multi-view images called dragon, kid, city and santa.

입체 화상의 3차원 전산모사기 구현에 관한 연구 (A Study on the 3-Dimensional Implementation of Computer-Aid Management of Stereo Images)

  • 최근 전산기술의 발전으로 난류를 비롯한 3차원의 복잡한 전달현상에 대한 전산유체역학(CFD) 해석의 실효성이 제고되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 초음파나 레이저를 이용한 방법보다 저렴하고, 간편하게 좌, 우 입체 화상으로 추출된 입체화상의 변위히스토그램을 이용하여 3차원 화상을 구현하기 위한 윈도우환경하의 모사기 CAMSI(Computer-Aided Management of Stereo Images)를 개발하였다. 본 프로그램에서는 영역기반 방법이 적용되었으며, 좌우 화상의 정합시 대응점을 결정하기 위하여 제곱차거리합계(SSD), 절대거리차합계(SAD), 평균상관계수(NCC)와 동일점세기(MPC)의 방법들이 각각 적용되었다. 구현된 프로그램은 다양한 윈도우 크기와 한계값에 대하여 우수한 해석능력을 보여주었다. 특히, 화상의 잡영이 적은 곳에서는 작은 윈도우 크기의 SSD가 좀더 정확성이 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 일반적으로는 NCC가, 그리고 잡영이 매우 심한 경우에는 MPC 또는 NCC가 SSD보다는 정확성이 높게 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 구현된 CAMSI는 복잡한 물체의 구현 또는 그 주변에서 다양한 전달현상의 3차원 CFD 해석에 효과적으로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.
