  • We selected the adequate cell line to be used for propagation and plaquing of R. tsutsugamushi in laboratory and identified R. tsutsugamushi serotype cultured in LuMA cells by nested PCR. As in this study, we concluded that. 1. LuMA cell was suitable for the study of the biology of rickettsiae-host cell interaction. 2. The plaque-forming unit (PFU) per ml of R. tsutsugamushi Karp strain propagated in embryonated egg yolk sacs was $10^{8.8}$ and the PFU/ml of Gilliam strain was $10^{7.1}$. 3. The rate and extent of cytopathic changes depended on the PFU titer of R. tsutsugamushi. 4. PCR with nested primer pairs was useful for identification of R. tsutsugamushi serotype cultured in human embryonic lung cells.

  • Fertilized hen eggs are rich in a variety of bioactive ingredients. In this study, we aimed to obtain an antioxidant protein from fertilized eggs and the radical scavenging abilities on 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), hydroxyl radical (${\bullet}OH$), superoxide anion ($O^{2-}{\bullet}$) were used to evaluate the antioxidant activity of the purified protein. During 20 d of incubation, the radical scavenging ability of protein extracted from fertilized eggs exhibited significantly differences and the protein on day 16 showed higher antioxidant capacity. Based on this, the antioxidant protein of the samples on day 16 were isolated for the follow-up study. With a molecular weight 43.22 kDa, the antioxidant protein was purified by Diethylaminoethyl cellulose -52 (DEAE-52) column and Sephadex G-100. The LC-MS analysis showed that the purified protein molecular weight was 43.22 kDa, named D2-S. The sequence of amino acids was highly similar to ovalbumin and the coverage reached to 84%. The purified protein showed a radical scavenging rate of $52.34{\pm}3.27%$ on DPPH and $63.49{\pm}0.25%$ on ${\bullet}OH$, respectively. Furthermore, the C-terminal amino acid sequence was NAVLFFGRCVSP, which was consistent with the sequence of ovabumin. These results here indicated that purified protein may be a potential resource as a natural antioxidant.

  • In DAB+, HE-AAC v2 codec is applied for the fixed rate transmission of audio stream. In case that xHE-AAC codec including USAC, a more efficiency is expected when the variable frame is used in a given same bandwidth compared to the fixed frame transmission. For this to be realized, audio streams need to be multiplexed in a sub-channel before transmission, then a method is required to identify the border of each audio frames. In this paper, the toggled sync byte and additional identification field being sequentially placed between AU borders are proposed in order to deal with the AU border identification. In addition, the Reed-Solomon based error correction code which is compliant to DAB+ is proposed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the identification and the toxicological effects of some impurities present in the technical grade phosalone (94.4%). In instrumental analyses of the technical phosalone, the five impurities such as phosalone oxon, 6-chloro-3-methylthio-2-oxobenzoxazole, 6-chloro-2-oxobenzoxazole, O,O,S-triethyl phosphorodithioate (OOSTEPDT) and dichlorophosalone were identified. The bimolecular inhibition rate constants ($k_i$) indicated that the technical phosalone inhibited both AChE and BuChE about ten times faster than the purified phosalone did. From in vivo studies the technical phosalone showed greater inhibition for mouse brain AChE, rat blood ChE's and mouse cytosolic non-specific esterases. It was presumed that some impurities present in the technical phosalone such as phosalone oxon cause such inhibition patterns of the technical phosalone observed in this study.

  • Exposure to environmental factors can cause interstitial lung diseases (ILDs); however, such types of ILDs are rare. From 2007 to 2011, an ILD epidemic occurred in South Korea owing to inhalational exposure to toxic chemicals in humidifier disinfectants (HDs). HD-associated ILDs (HD-ILDs) are characterized by rapidly progressing respiratory failure with pulmonary fibrosis and a high mortality rate of 43.8%-58.0%. Although 18.1%-31.1% of the general population used HDs, only a small proportion of HD users were diagnosed with HD-ILDs. This finding suggests that investigation of the pathophysiologies underlying HD-ILDs is needed in addition to the identification of susceptibility to HD-ILDs. Further, there have been several concerns regarding the diverse health effects of exposure to toxic chemicals in HDs, including those that have not been identified, and long-term prognoses in terms of pulmonary function and residual pulmonary lesions observed on follow-up chest images. In this review, we summarize the clinical features, pathologic findings, and changes in radiologic findings over time in patients with HD-ILDs and the results of previous experimental research on the mechanisms underlying the effects of toxic chemicals in HDs. Studies are currently underway to identify the pathophysiologies of HD-ILDs and possible health effects of exposure to HDs along with the development of targeted therapeutic strategies. The experience of identification of HD-ILDs has encouraged stricter control of safe chemicals in everyday life.

  • Recently, the number of cyber attacks using malicious code has increased. Various types of malicious code detection techniques have been researched for several years as the damage has increased. In recent years, profiling techniques have been used to identify attack groups. This paper focuses on the identification of attack groups using a detection technique that does not involve malicious code detection. The attacker is identified by using a string or a code signature of the malicious code. In addition, the detection rate is increased by adding a technique to confirm the packing file. We use Yara as a detection technique. We have research about RAT (remote access tool) that is mainly used in attack groups. Further, this paper develops a ruleset using malicious code and packer main feature signatures for RAT which is mainly used by the attack groups. It is possible to detect the attacker by detecting RAT based on the newly created ruleset.

  • Background: Recently, the rate of infections with non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) has been increasing in Korea. Precise identification of NTM is critical to determination of the pathogen and to target treatment of NTM patients. Methods: Sixty-eight unclassified mycobacteria isolates by rpoB PCR-RFLP assay (PRA) collected in 2008 were analyzed by National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Basic Local Alignment Search Tool (BLAST) search after sequencing of 16S rRNA, hsp65, rpoB genes. Results: Nineteen strains of 68 isolates were specified as species after sequencing analysis of 3 gene types. We found 3 M. lentifulavum, 5 M. arupense, 4 M. triviale, 4 M. parascrofulaceum, and one M. obuense. One M. tuberculosis and another M. peregrinum were mutated at the Msp I recognition site needed for rpoB PRA. The remaining 49 isolates did not coincide with identical species at the 3 kinds genes. Conclusion: Sequencing analysis of 16S rRNA, hsp65, rpoB was useful for identification of NTM unclassified by rpoB PRA.

  • To explore the effects of radiofrequency electromagnetic field on the fate of neuronal cells, we investigated whether exposure to 915 MHz radiofrequency identification (RFID) caused morphological changes in neuronal cells in rat hippocampal dentate gyrus (DG). A reverberation chamber was used as a whole-body RFID exposure system. Rats were assigned to two groups: sham- and RFID-exposed groups. Rats in the RFID-exposed group were exposed to RFID at 4 W/kg specific absorption rate (SAR) for 8 hours daily, 5 days per week, for 2 weeks. Morphological evaluation of DG was performed using immunohistochemistry with doublecortin (DCX) as a neuronal precursor cell marker and neuronal nuclei (NeuN) as a mature neuronal cell marker. No significant morphological changes in DCX+ or NeuN+ cells in the DG of RFID-exposed rats were observed. These results suggest that RFID exposure induces no significant change in DCX+ neuronal precursor or NeuN+ neuronal cells in DG of rats.
