  • The identification and characterization of Bacillus polyfermenticus KJS-2 (B. polyfermenticus KJS-2) was conducted using TEM, an API 50CHB kit, 16S rDNA sequencing, a phylogenetic tree, and catalase and oxidase testing. The conversion rate of glucose to lactic acid by B. polyfermenticus KJS-2 was found to be $60.7{\pm}4.9%$. In addition, treatment of B. polyfermenticus KJS-2 with artificial gastric juice (pH 2.0) and bile acid (pH 6.5) for 4 h resulted in a final viability of $140{\pm}7.9%$ and $108{\pm}3.5%$, respectively. Finally, the results of adhesion experiments using Caco-2 cells revealed that the adherence of B. polyfermenticus KJS-2 to Caco-2 cells was approximately $65{\pm}0.6%$.

  • Biometric technologies have become widely available in many different fields. However, biometric technologies using existing physical features such as fingerprints, facial features, irises, and veins must consider forgery and alterations targeting them through fraudulent physical characteristics such as fake fingerprints. Thus, a trend toward next-generation biometric technologies using behavioral biometrics of a living person, such as bio-signals and walking characteristics, has emerged. Accordingly, in this study, we developed a bio-signal authentication algorithm using electrocardiogram (ECG) signals, which are the most uniquely identifiable form of bio-signal available. When using ECG signals with our system, the personal identification and authentication accuracy are approximately 90% during a state of rest. When using fingerprints alone, the equal error rate (EER) is 0.243%; however, when fusing the scores of both the ECG signal and fingerprints, the EER decreases to 0.113% on average. In addition, as a function of detecting a presentation attack on a mobile phone, a method for rejecting a transaction when a fake fingerprint is applied was successfully implemented.

  • As a part of studies on the quality control of crude drug-drink preparations, ginger components were identified by TLC and 6-gingerol was determined quantitatively by HPLC. Ginger components were identified by TLC with benzene/acetone (4:1, v/v, on silica gel plate by spraying a vanillinsulfuric acid reagent. 5-Gingerol contents were determined at 280 nm by HPLC on Lichro CART RP-18 column with acetonitrile/wate(38:62, v/v). Its transfer rate in the 3 types of crude drug extract drinks was 65.4-85.1% compared to the content in the ginger extract.

  • Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers in women worldwide. During their life time the vast majority of women become infected with human papillomavirus (HPV), but interestingly only a small portion develop cervical cancer and in the remainder infection regresses to a normal healthy state. Beyond HPV status, associated molecular characterization of disease has to be established. However, initial work suggests the existence of several different molecular classes, based on the biological features of differentially expressed genes in each subtype. This suggests that additional risk factors play an important role in the outcome of infection. Host genomic factors play an important role in the outcome of such complex or multifactor diseases such as cervical cancer and are also known to regulate the rate of disease progression. The aim of this review was to compile advances in the field of host genomics of HPV positive and negative cervical cancer and their association with clinical response.

  • This paper proposes a matching algorithm using Voronoi diagram for rotation and translation invariant fingerprint identification. The proposed algorithm extracts geometrical structures that are derived from Voronoi diagram of a fingerprint image. Then two features, distances and angles are extracted from the geometrical structures and saved as indexing form for fingerprint matching. This matching algerian has a lower error rate than indexing based methods of old times.

  • This paper presents a neural networks based approach for the problem of sensor failure detection and accommodation for ship without physical redundancy in the sensors. The designed model consists of two neural networks. The first neural network is responsible for the failure detection and the second neural network is responsible for the failure identification and accommodation. On the yaw rate sensor of ship, simulation results indicates that the proposed method can be useful as failure detector and sensor estimator.

  • The shorted-turn sensor for generator's field winding has been developed. The sensor, installed in the generator air-gap, senses the slot leakage flux of field winding and produces a voltage waveform proportional to the rate of change of the flux. For identification of reliability for sensor, a shorted-turn test was performed at the Seoinchon combined cycle power plant on gas turbine generator. This sensor will be used as a detecting of shorted-turn for generator's field winding.

  • An existing ATM switch fabric uses VPI(Virtual Path Identifier) and VCI(Virtual Channel Identifier) information to route ATM cell. But AAL type 2 switch which efficiently processes delay-sensitive, low bit-rate data such as a voice routes the ATM cell by using CID(Channel Identification) field in addition to VPI and VCI. In this paper, we research the AAL type 2 switch that performs the process of CPS packet. The Receive unit extracts the CPS packet from the inputted ATM cell. The designed receive unit consists of input FIFO, r)( status table, CAM(Content Addressable Memory), new CID table and partial packet memory. Also the designed receive unit supports the PCI interface with host processor. The receive unit is implemented in Xilinx FPGA and operates at 72MHz.
